The TT 02 instructions are for the longer wheelbase. Depending on what the original kit was, there may or may not have been an addendum having you install the A arms the other way for the shorter wheelbase.
Ah HA! I really appreciate that information. Mine didn't have instructions for that, but I'll flip them around then and see how it goes. I'll include it in the next video with this car. Thank you!
@@Rek_Rc at the front of the instruction booklet it shows 4 options. Low/high and short/long. and on the instructions of the body itself it shows the length required. and on that piece of paper it says you need the shorter version, It's a bit confusing, but that's what you get when you have one chassis for 400 bodies haha. (they show a little later in the instructions how to make the shorter wheelbase version)

Congrats to the 74👏👏👏 For the body I can only guess. I don't have a 02. Have you checked the rear upprights? Maybe changing left and right might help. Another idea is to check the mounts. On 03:58 it looksas if the complete body is slightly a little bit too much offset to the front.🤔
I was told I read the wrong instructions. I knew they had adjustable wheelbases, but I was thinking in terms of wide or narrow, but not long or short. So apparently this body calls for the short wheelbase, BUT, I'm going to leave it long for the speed run challenge as long as the tires aren't rubbing which so far they don't seem to be.

Awe man they are cool. If you're curious, I'd say go for it because they are cheap, and so upgradeable and customizable so even if you don't like the box stock build, you can make it into almost whatever you want.
Awesome speed. Most of us try to cut out the crashes in our videos, but not you. You proudly show off your reks. Great job getting this Tamiya up to such a high speed.
Your idea might actually THE idea. I'm noticing two things with the high Kv guys... 1. They are running 2s either because their motors can't do 3s, or if they can run 3s it's just too much and the cars are hard to drive. 2. UHHHH, crashes hahahahahah. So lower Kv and higher gearing might be the way to go. On 6500Kv when my throttle trigger moves even the slightest bit, it's a massive reaction from the car and before you even know it, you've lost it.

@@UncleBobsRC dang, it's always an "oh no" moment when you realize your GPS didn't survive a crash, because you know that no matter the speed, you'll never know which means the bragging rights go out the window. But in the case of your car, the bragging rights are well intact because that thing was obviously SCREAMING along. You're quite the painter as well, mine took me way too long just for a solid single color paint job hahahahah. I'm the worst at painting, but then again I crash cars so much I may as well just leave the bodies clear.
Bro ya gotta upgrade the steering if you wanna go that fast woth a tt02. I completely overhauled the suspension too by using the tt02s suspension Hangars, tb03 suspension arms, tb03 front c hubs and knuckles, tb03 rear uprights, turnbuckles all round for tuning uj shafts with trf axles,carbon towers, batt strap and bumper support. The list is endless and I run it with a max10 esc and 5000kv motor on 2s or 3s lipo. It's a beast and the suspension and steering upgrades totally eliminates all and any slop helping the car track straight and true. Such a versatile platform... I may even install quad tracks for the winter.

When you really max out the gearing, you will likely only want to do 1 run at a time as things will start to get hot! It seemed like it wasn't getting too hot yet? You are the fastest guy I have seen in the challenge so far. I wonder if you can find a wider road?
The motor heat with the current gearing is really low, but I can tell it wouldn't take much to change that. I really do need a wider road with no turn because at that speed and narrow wheelbase that slight turn may as well be a hairpin. But, I was surprised by how stable it was when it was up to speed. It's just that any little thing can upset the car easily and then it's a big crash.
Sweet! Keep pushing it. The current top speed on an old school brushed motor is 71mph on 3s. A 6500kv brushless setup better be quicker than an old brushed motor. But that is super fast and aerodynamics will make it tough to control.
Thank you! That brushed speed was insane BTW. But yeah I think this car has 75, maybe even 80 in it as it sits but not with that stock suspension and tires hahahah, and you're right about the aero, it isn't bad, but it's not doing me any favors above 55 MPH at all.

hey bro my tt02 McLaren senna's front tires have the same sorta thing going on in the wheel wells. but they sit slightly forward of the centerline , and thats after rebuilding the front suspension 3 times . its not enough to be an eye sore but i still know its like that. . . .. . which esc is that black one?, looks like the hobbywing clone im running .
what your gearing like? my setup is 120A surpass hobby esc(2s -4S) a 3650 3100KV running 26/68 gearing, when it was in my special white edition tt02 it went 85MPH on 4s being completely stock ( besides the brushless set up and high speed gearing) makes me wonder what that set up will do when its in my completely updeaded tt02 senna @@Rek_Rc
@@nitronut4206 I'm running the stock 22T pinion on the 68T spur, I'm confident I can do 75 or maybe more with this set up, but the challenge only allows up to 3s, so I figured the high KV spektrum system would be good, If I can get to full throttle that is. I haven't gotten there yet, I stuff it at half to maybe 3/4th throttle every time hahahha.
I recently built a spoed run tt02. I started with a tt02R, ditched the high speed spur for a much higher speed spur (58t)! 4s capable with hobbywing 120a esc, 3800kv motor. I have every pinion from 20 all the way to 40. Currently using the 30t pinion. Gyro is a must so dumbo remote with gyro. Had to experiment with tires because with this much power traction is easily lost. I thought contact foams would win but actually found a much better rubber tire. I have yet to run it on 4s. 3s is insane and hits 100+. I made a custom fan system to keep the temps down between runs.

I am building a totally custom tt-02. Most parts are aluminum and carbon fiber. I got a 7700kv motor for it but am not sure which esc would work best. Any suggestions?

I’m trying to start out in R/c. Just subscribed because you definitely seem like the person to talk to. I am very experienced with actual cars and build all motor Hondas. But when it comes to R/C. Totally clueless. I’d like to change that. I ordered a HOSIM x08. The. Cancelled the order after seeing this video. I want to purchase my first r/c and be able to do modifications. This seems better. The painting and stuff seems a little out of my league because if I can’t do it perfect, I’m Gona get really annoyed. But the mechanical stuff I know I can handle. Is this a good chassis to keep upgrading upon for years to come? And does the motor it comes with, good enough for at least 40mph or more? I really want something I can ripp at 40-50-60 moh and look cool while doing it. Money budget. I don’t want to bust more than $500 for my first stage.
@@Rek_Rc I decided to go with a TT02RS kit. The kit I bought though is a fully hopped up all alloy chassis. I then purchased a S3650 -3500KV brushless & ESC. I also purchased the high speed gear from tamiya and 2s lIPO batteries and charger. I also got the p32 remote and receiver. I also bought a pinion set from 19-24t. Any tips? And is there much difference from a 540 to a 3650? What I found is it doesn’t really matter. I also bought a stand and tools and everything I’ll need to work on it. Any tips?
@@RittenhouseLifestyle7 my only tip is to enjoy your RC as much as you can. Eventually you'll start swapping out different wheels and such, and it sounds like you've taken a lot of consideration for owning and operating your RC. Before you realize it, you'll have 10 more and I hope you have an absolute BLAST and many smiles per mile! You're off to a great start there.
@@Rek_Rc thanks man! I will keep you posted. It’ll do its test run tomorrow. I’m hooked. Installed 68T spur with a 27T pinion on 2s lipo. Foam tires will see how fast I can get it up to. I think the speed runs are what I want to do for now. Then I’ll continue onto other things like drift or actually racing.
Yep, the wheelbase is too Small for anything over 40 MPH, if you still want to be able to control the car that is. It was fun and hilarious seeing it go that fast, but I knew it would end badly.
@@Rek_Rc i bought today an absima touring car 1/10 brushed and really like how soft it feels and almist no gear noise since spur is plastic. in my hbx 16890 brushed, when i use 3s lipo the spur never fails, its always the plastic little spur that connects to the rear diff. On the pro version i also have its all hard steel. I believe that its not too bad a spur made of plastic since they are cheap, silent l, low weight and capable of resisting a lot.
@farmoboy83 the Tamiya TT-02 line I actually think are perfectly good on the stock brushed motor. The only reason I boosted mine so much is because I entered it into a speed run challenge for that model, and I didn't enter intent on winning, I just wanted to see how fast I could make it go bone stock except for the electronics. It had the power to do 75, but not without upgrading at least the wheels and shocks.
If you look at the instructions for the bodyshell, you'll see on the first page that it's for the short wheelbase chassis set-up. Great video nonetheless 👍
I can't actually believe my car went that fast on the stock wheels and suspension, but then again, running it that way with that much RPM is why I can't keep the rubber on the road. But, overall I'm pretty happy with it even though I couldn't get full throttle, it was ripping along pretty good anyways. I'm just lucky I didn't hit that light pole hahahah. That would have been the end of that car.

Check the body instructions, mine had two sets of instructions….one for short wheelbase and one for long.

The ESC and motor in the beginning of the video is a reedy 60a 3300Kv out of a team Associated, then I swapped it for a 6500Kv spektrum drag system

Towards the end of the instruction manual it shows you to reverse the rear arms orientation to get the shorter wheelbase you need. 😂

They really are. I wish I was a better painter though, but if you can't paint, you can't go wrong with black on an RC body.

Totally clueless. I’d like to change that. I ordered a HOSIM x08. The. Cancelled the order after seeing this video. I want to purchase my first r/c and be able to do modifications. This seems better. The painting and stuff seems a little out of my league because if I can’t do it perfect, I’m Gona get really annoyed. But the mechanical stuff I know I can handle. Is this a good chassis to keep upgrading upon for years to come? And does the motor it comes with, good enough for at least 40mph or more? I really want something I can ripp at 40-50-60 moh and look cool while doing it. Money budget. I don’t want to bust more than $500 for my first stage.

@@Rek_Rc I decided to go with a TT02RS kit. The kit I bought though is a fully hopped up all alloy chassis. I then purchased a S3650 -3500KV brushless & ESC. I also purchased the high speed gear from tamiya and 2s lIPO batteries and charger. I also got the p32 remote and receiver. I also bought a pinion set from 19-24t. Any tips? And is there much difference from a 540 to a 3650? What I found is it doesn’t really matter. I also bought a stand and tools and everything I’ll need to work on it. Any tips?
@@RittenhouseLifestyle7 my only tip is to enjoy your RC as much as you can. Eventually you'll start swapping out different wheels and such, and it sounds like you've taken a lot of consideration for owning and operating your RC. Before you realize it, you'll have 10 more and I hope you have an absolute BLAST and many smiles per mile! You're off to a great start there.
@@Rek_Rc thanks man! I will keep you posted. It’ll do its test run tomorrow. I’m hooked. Installed 68T spur with a 27T pinion on 2s lipo. Foam tires will see how fast I can get it up to. I think the speed runs are what I want to do for now. Then I’ll continue onto other things like drift or actually racing.

Yep, the wheelbase is too Small for anything over 40 MPH, if you still want to be able to control the car that is. It was fun and hilarious seeing it go that fast, but I knew it would end badly.
I have a 7700kv castle in mine it shreds foam tires.

Everything bone stock, except the power system. That was a 6500Kv motor 100a ESC. The same system as the losi 22s drag car.

@@farmoboy83 actually I did get the hop up spur gear for it, I almost forgot. But it was also plastic and held up until I began really abusing it
@@Rek_Rc i bought today an absima touring car 1/10 brushed and really like how soft it feels and almist no gear noise since spur is plastic. in my hbx 16890 brushed, when i use 3s lipo the spur never fails, its always the plastic little spur that connects to the rear diff. On the pro version i also have its all hard steel. I believe that its not too bad a spur made of plastic since they are cheap, silent l, low weight and capable of resisting a lot.
@farmoboy83 the Tamiya TT-02 line I actually think are perfectly good on the stock brushed motor. The only reason I boosted mine so much is because I entered it into a speed run challenge for that model, and I didn't enter intent on winning, I just wanted to see how fast I could make it go bone stock except for the electronics. It had the power to do 75, but not without upgrading at least the wheels and shocks.

If you look at the instructions for the bodyshell, you'll see on the first page that it's for the short wheelbase chassis set-up.

That is some good speed. I’m doing the same challenge. Almost built the car. I don’t think I’ll get those speeds though.
I can't actually believe my car went that fast on the stock wheels and suspension, but then again, running it that way with that much RPM is why I can't keep the rubber on the road. But, overall I'm pretty happy with it even though I couldn't get full throttle, it was ripping along pretty good anyways. I'm just lucky I didn't hit that light pole hahahah. That would have been the end of that car.
