- Ever wonder how you can BUILD and OWN your favorite sports cars for cheap? In this episode of 10th Scale Garage, we build two Mercedes DREAM CARS for almost no money at all, and put them head to head to see which one is best. The Mercedes 190E is built with the Tamiya TT-01 kit and the CLK AMG is built with the Tamiya TT-02 kit. We show you how you can build these cars and take them racing on the cheap. We'll compare them in a head to head battle and crown a winner. We'll take a look at some upgrades and show them off next to a ready to run alternative. Which is your favorite?

After I got the (no more kids) surgery I was down for a few days on light duty. Got a TT-02 Subaru WRX and a bunch of hop ups ready to go. Best 3 days of soreness I ever had.
Hahaha. Glad you’re feeling better!
Love Tamiya❤️
We currently have 34 tto1 semis in our neighborhood race series. Awesome value and kids/parents have a blast building.
Greetings from SoCal 😎
I’d love to build a semi.
Still haven’t ran my tto2 yet I’m hoping the weather stays dry for a while I’ve also a plan to make it 4s 🇬🇧😁
Nice! The first TT-02 I built is good for 3S and it freakin rips!
9:00 Oh no! Very cool video though.. and yeah I'm loving the FZ02-R. The 2002 Impreza is definitely a unicorn for me. My TT02 (first 1/10 scale car) I got almost to 75mph so not bad for a Tamiya. Wasn't easy though.
Holy crap! That’s flying!
@10thScaleGarage Thanks man.. it's slow to me considering the record is 122mph I think 🤔 but yeah, 70+ is pucker factor territory 😁👍
Hi there! Other than the battery tray on the TT01, the biggest issue is the weak and floppy drive shaft. An absolute must upgrade!
Yeah. If we get any aluminum upgrades, it’s shafts and axels.
Building it is part of the hobby enjoyment for me. Great videos. Thanks.
It sure is
Well . when it comes to which chassis is better in stock form without any improvements, it is the TT-01e. ( of course in the on-road category ) the steering system is more precise and the suspension arms have less play. Therefore, the TT-02 is easier to build, lipo packages fit and there is a greater choice in terms of the number of different models.
Whoa. That part with the batteries where u played it backwards tripped me out. I had rewind it n look @ it again lol
Haha. Yeah, I realized in editing that I shot the batteries in reverse order…. Oops!
I have a TA03R-S that I parked 20+ years ago that I broke out to play with my kids - it'll smoke that Kyosoho in a straight line (37mph with its brushed motor), but while I love Tamiya since I was a kid, I don't know that I'll replace it with another just because it feels like Tamiya decided to pretend brushless never happened. I'm thinking about a TC-01 though, it seems like it had some actual advancement.
I got the Buick kyosho and I love it I recently got the Losi v100 Camaro it can’t run 3s but wow it’s Smoooooth and very recently got the HNR “hell cat” and it’s a killer drifter on the drift wheels on 2 and 3s but needs major chassis trim work to run anything besides foams to speed run it. It’s just hard to hide new 1/10th scale rc’s from the wife. The Losi Chevelle dragster is a looker but flips easy. One thing about having a nice body on an RC is it hurts your heart when you wreck it 😢
"We built these cars, not some robot in China." Not sure what this comment supposed to mean. Whether it's a kit or a RTR, they are all built by some kind of automated production line in China. And with an RTR, there is plenty of room to make it your very own.
happy birthday !!1 i mean, a happy birthday for my 10 y old son, who got a wrx tt02, a is first real rc kit. what a blast to build it with him !!! start them young !
Awesome video guys! I was wondering how you guys made that cinematic burnout shot? Did you guys attach a fishing line to the car?
Nope. Just bad the wheels turned and wedged against the body, ha ha.
@@10thScaleGarage that was awesome man! 😎
Building it rules, my fingers still hurt after rebuilding my TT01-e's driveshafts tonight lol
Hey, how did you get the wheel mod for the Flysky G7P ?
Nice comparison. Do you know where I could get kyosho Mercedes body?
I went full Monty in my last tt02 build. All the metal things! Upgraded brushless motor and 4s. It tears through tires. But it's currently sitting on the shelf because it went sideways into a curb and broke the passenger side turn buckles... whoops. And it'll stay that way as a reminder to keep tt02s mostly plastic!
Haha. Yeah. About the most we do is driveshafts and axels.
I disagree, the tt01 has a good aftermarket parts, not as convenient as the tt02 but still incredibly decent! Also by adding some spacers and longer schrews u can fit a lot of dirrefentipo sizes, by making the posts longer and remove with pliers the round edges i the bathtub.
Very true.
How do you make them do a burnout
Camera trickery.
Please tell me where you got the lift from? Great video guys 🪓Chopin up Benz’s up 🪓
eBay I think. I can’t remember the sellers name.
I can’t speak for a tt01 but the tt02 is a great car. I’ve got the ford gt and with a Holmes puller pro motor and a high gear ratio and a bit of shimming of the steering and such I got 56mph on a small 3s battery
Nice!!!! That’s a great looking model.
I got a tt 02 and have a question, can putting the diff make it faster in reverse? Been dreading pulling mine apart just to find out it makes no difference
The only thing that makes them faster is gearing and voltage.
Your esc is most likely a limiting factor with the reverse speed. They usually give 50% throttle in reverse. Assuming you did the throttle calibration.
@@10thScaleGarage my issue is I bought the car used, didn’t really drive it and put a brushless system in it. After I got it running it was faster in reverse than forward, the esc had instructions to program it so I could change rotation but never got it to work. Throw the old stuff in and actually drive it to find same story. Dude I bought it from keeps tellin me to flip the diffs in it and I’m very suspect of that doing anything
@@shannoncold I’m not trying to GO faster in reverse, I want it to go forward faster. Person I got the car from trying to tell me to flip the diffs
A bearing kit is the best thing you can do to a Tamiya.
Second would be installing a brushless motor and esc.
Agree
It might be time , im a self certified broken Parts Changer & lifelong Gearhead with a couple xl5 systems , tx & rec. somewheres in a drawer around here .
Boom. Just need some lexan paint
Bought a TT01 first and added some basic upgrades, car runs strong and quick. A month later I bought a TT02 and as I started building it, I noticed how loose the center shaft moved. Checked to see that the bearings had too much play inside the plastic molding. Compared to the TT01, there is no play for the center shaft to be loose or wobbly. I also purchased an upgrade TT01 carbon chassis kit which is better than the original TT01 and the loosely made TT02 I returned for my refund!
I've got RCs from a lot of manufacturers but I'd never tried a Tamiya, I got myself a TT-01E MAN truck a little while ago & was pleasantly surprised.!
I'm running it on a mild brushless system & it drives well.!! 👍 👍
I'm just waiting for the little M05 Mini that I scored on Ebay the other day to arrive.!😉 😉
I'm really looking forward to trying a front wheel drive RC, especially since it's nice & dry right now.
Great video as always guys.
Stay safe out there & the very best wishes from Scotland 🏴 🙏 ❤️ 📻 🕹️ 🔋 🚗 🚖 🚕 🚔 🚚 🚙 🚘 🚓 🚒 🚑 🚐 🚎 🚤 🚁 🛩️ 👍 👍
Awesome! We have a couple front wheel drive Tamiyas. Love em.
My head says Kyosho but my heart says Tamiya.
watching this high as fuck dude you tripped me out with the rc car footage
You’re welcome!
