I had been deciding on getting a bow fishing setup for a while now then I found you guys and it settled it for me. Got my first gar lastnight and am hoping for much more to come soon.
For those who don't understand bow hunting. This is a way to balance out the ecosystem. Most fisherman do not target this type of fish and if they catch one accidentally they normally just throw it back. Gar are predatory fish . They will eat other gamefish of any size. Game fish is what people target and like to eat. Without bowfishing this type of fish would take over a water body then eventually killing themselves off because of no food. This is a way to cull the species.
these fish do need to be managed but not because they kill off gamefish. If they killed off all gamefish Mother Nature wouldn’t have put them here. They only need to be managed for overpopulation. Even if they do become overpopulated, there’s 0 chance of them killing all the gamefish in a certain area. That’s just not possible.
@eh1918 Like I said , it's to balance out the ecosystem !!!!!! Don't try to doubt what I said then say basically the same thing in different words. Duh !!!!
@@Digadang_Shane if you really think what I said is the same as what you said, you are very incompetent. 😂. It also doesn’t help you have the grammar skills of a 5 year old.
Those gar were here for thousands of years before people and there’s still gamefish. Interesting… If there’s one thing I hate it’s stupid people throwing gar up on the bank because they are a fool.
@derekgroth6327 I won't argue about this because of your doubts. It's ok to be ignorant about things that you don't understand. But do some research. The magic of good ol Google is at your fingertips. I learned the hard way by doing my research at libraries years ago. Also , by seeing first hand of how 1 fish species can take over a complete ecosystem. In which this is why I did my research . Not because I didn't believe something I read.
@@hunterpickard1297 I think they should be a sport fish so they can’t be hunted with a bow. I’m not educated on the population of gar but I do know that they are living dinosaurs that can live for a very very long time and that they don’t really taste good so why shoot them with a bow? In my opinion catching gar with a reel is a lot more exciting. But that’s just me, everyone enjoys different things.
@trent5860 Well, idk where you're from, but I live in southeast Louisiana and there are giant gator gar everywhere around here. All in the south they are quite abundant and large. They have voracious appetites and grow quickly. They may live a long time but I can tell you a 6 ft gator gar didn't take 100 years to get that big. They grow fast and once they hit certain lengths, they may start to slow down in growth rate.

These 5' beasts are older than every dude in the boat. It takes decades to get a population that will help the crap carp problem, but it's impossible with guys like this dragging many in a week. They probably need the money guiding to pay their boat payments.
Try not to hunt the native stuff to much, go after invasive types with the bow. And you can catch huge ones with a rod and reel. Just watch Catching Dinosaurs they catch massive gar and let them go. The bigger fish are better at breeding, once you take them out that ecosystem is screwed
They have a bowhunting carp tournament every year at Lake Almanor, CA.
And big bear
Way to let them go to let them grow!!!!
Totally agree.....
They have grown plenty enough

I'm curious why kill them? Do u guys eat em or something?
Would love to bag one on rod and reel
Catch and release . Did you guys even eat them ? Doubt it
Conservation of eco system. Aka game management. Over population is just as bad if not worse than under or endangered bc it affects more species.
Please hunt invasive species and support the native ones they are under threat from the imports all sodes
Where in the world is this!!!!!??? I wanna go!!!!
Good size but not nearly close to it's full size...Alligator Gar!! Thought you could only fish for those over seas.
Do not go to the lake, children
Не ходите дети в озеро купаться
That first one would of had the bow pulled and slung the arrow out quicker thsn u could of blinked if i was shooting them
wow good ideo
Bow fishin should only be aloud in a survival situation. I wonder if they even eat what they kill
These fish need culling

Unfortunately no but they 100% should be
