    Great tips, Ken. And make sure your shop is well ventilated when you use PB Blaster like it says on the can!

    A lot of great tips Ken! Didn’t know the tool could be stuck right into the slick stick. 👍

    Thanks for the great video. Been meaning to get a slick stick, thanks for the reminder. That task light really shows a lot of aerosol particles from the spray and the wire brush, might be worthwhile to wear a mask. Also, I'm not a chemist but I've heard that kerosine, #1 Diesel and #2 diesel are very close in the refining process, and though they burn at different temperatures they are pretty much interchangeable when used for cleaning purposes. That's just hearsay, but I've been hearing it from fellow craftsmen for 50 years so there may be something to it.

    The best use for Slick Stick I've found, is on the bottom of a hand plane. It glides across the wood.

    Mush easier than all of this is simply clean with Trend brand diamond emulsion. It removes the loading instantly. I use a little of it on the CBN before starting sharpening and it prevents loading in the first place.

    I'll have to switch to a steel wire brush. I was using a brass brush, and noticed that the brass would load up on the wheel. Now, I'm curious as to why the drill bit works in aiding with the cleaning process?

    • @kenrizza4146
      @kenrizza4146 2 роки тому +2

      I had someone use a brass brush but ran the grinder to "save" time. The wheel loaded up with brass. The drill bit with hard steel will dig into the pores and dig out impacted metal. You can also use tool steel but make sure it's not too big.

    Ken - Thanks for this... I bought a set from you and I friggin love them. But I must be insane. I treat the wheels as a delicate tool i think mostly due to 80% of the time i'm just touching up my bowl gouge and lightly creating a new burr . So what hurts a wheel? Not PB Blaster, not a wire brush, not kerosene, not water , not jamming a drill bit into the wheel... I know you can't list everything you shouldn't do but (other than dropping them) is there something that you can't put on the wheel? Like another CBN wheel?

    • @kenrizza4146
      @kenrizza4146 Рік тому +1

      Thanks for the note. Two things not to use or grind on a CBN wheel is Carbide and stone. Other than that there isn't much that can hurt it. Oh- Or grind another CBN wheel. :)

    Hi Ken,
    Do you still recommend the Woodtech BDS6100 cleaning stick from Packard? I seem to remember you recommending it to me some years ago. I think it works pretty well.

    Nice tips, Ken. I've bee told to use the eraser kind of thing used to clean sanding disks to clean a CBN wheel. Do you advocate that or was I led astray/

    • @kenrizza4146
      @kenrizza4146 2 роки тому

      I don't think those erasers do much. Might be ok for tree bark and lighter stuff.

    Mr. Rizza: If you use a CBN wheel with a Tormek do you need the water bath or are you supposed to run that type of wheel dry? Thanks in advance for your response.

    • @kenrizza4146
      @kenrizza4146 Рік тому

      Hi Ralph- you can use them with water if you wish. Just make sure you dry them off when your done so corrosion doesn't start. Wouldn't hurt to put some of that anti corrosion liquid in with the water.

    I thought the SlickStick was going to be the best thing since ...(fill in the blank). However, the wheel seemed to load up faster using it so I quit.
    What am I doing wrong?
