As for all THATLAZYMACHINIST videos, this video is produced for novice , garage or beginner machinists. You can find all my videos as well as project drawings and course notes on my website THATLAZYMACHINIST.COM . Thanks for understanding that I am a professional toolmaker and teacher but I am not a professional video producer (and it shows). I produce these videos for fun as a little retirement project that lets me give back a little of what was passed on to me by so many amazing trades people most of whom, sadly, are no longer with us. Marc, you are an amazing teacher. I can’t think of higher praise for any experienced person. I really appreciate you and what you do! I’m 64 years old and am sucking information like a sponge. Now, to find room for a surface grinder...
Thank you.
"There must be a clear winner when grinding." Quotes like this stick on me quite well, it's poetic even. I just found your channel 20 minutes ago and I'm hooked.
I'm gonna be a machinist when my little one starts school. A new career direction. Merci!
Great Video. Having just purchased a surface grinder this will be a great help. Please keep the videos coming. And most of all thank you for all your hard work.
Thank You for the clear information!

I don't own a surface grinder but i do have a toolpost grinder and a home made tool and cutter grinder and much of the information in your video will be transferable to them as well .
Thank you Marc.
grinding knowledge traffic, so so helpful, thank you!
Now I know. Learned. Thnak you.

What materials can and cannot be ground, if any?
Great video Marc! Especially like the information about the wheel grading system. Still working on becoming a certified lazy machinists however I’ve been procrastinating.
Great discussion/information!! Seeing my name on your white board....hmmm? In trouble? Bad example? Or shoutout....IMO all 3....ATB Marc
how does the idea of the "clear winner" between the wheel and workpiece work when you're dealing with materials and wheels of intermediate hardnesses? surely there's a crossover point? I always thought it was about balancing wear between the bond and abrasive. Hard materials wear the abrasive quickly, so you need a relatively soft bond to keep the wheel from glazing. Soft materials wear the abrasive slowly, so you can use a tougher bond for longer wheel life without glazing
Hi Rob! I agree with your insight. It is a balancing act and there is a cross over point. My videos are for beginners and sometimes I skip information in order to keep things simple. What you are saying agrees with what I said in the video and adds some more information on why the choice of bond is so important. Thanks for some great information and for taking the time to share with everyone. Marc
Se magnifique! (Or however that goes.)
how to mount nonmagnetic Ti-64 alloy 6mm plate on the magnetic chuck. and can you suggest grinding wheel specification Ti-64 alloy with 0.75 mm Depth of cut (Creepfeed grinding)? I required it for my research work.
Thank you
