Hi Steve. Looks to be a nice wheel for what we know little of. We are happy you are teaching us the concentration and the quality even function of this wheel and how it is dressed, as well you did great teaching us about the special wheel dress made for dressing a CBN wheel. Nice lesson for our future uses, thank you. We think we know that part you are grinding, that is the base for the shop made squaring tool.
Nice adjustment upgrade to that Suburban Tool for your application very well shared Steve.

This video really will come in handy when my new CBN wheels arrive to surface grind Rex121 steel knife blades at 71HRC or S390 HSS steel blades at 68HRC. Thanks so much for this!! I really appreciate the time you took to record this. All the best from Switzerland 🇨🇭!

@@SolidRockMachineShopInc Oh yes, some members of the knife community (channel name Outpost76) did a cut test video a few days ago with 68HRC Vancron Superclean steel and a one inch section did cut 800 feet of cardboard before it stopped cutting copy paper. Quire a chore to make such a knife though - so I am happy when I think about my new cbn wheels, haha.

@@kknives_switzerland Check out cryogenic (deep freeze treatment). On many types of steel it adds 2-5 times the wear resistance and makes it tougher too. You can have it done as part of the heat treat process. One other type of steel to look at is CPM 15V, I believe it is the closest to carbide wear resistance you can get in steel.

My diamond wheel stays on it's own adapter so as not to loose the trueing. Also made a reference mark to indicate any slip.
Indicated the wheel in before trueing so as not to remove too much diamond per Norton's recommendation.

Wow Steve the Master Grind is awesome. In the hands of someone as creative as you are some very intresting grinding is on the horizon. I find information on cbn wheels intresting the topic of truing and dressing some people get up set about the terminology and what covers what (did you dress that to an angle or true it to angle) scince it required subsequent dressing to open the grain. like a die grinder freewheeling not plugged into air for dressing if its loading up. Very helpful info on the CBN wheel, we don't have a surface grinder but do have a cuttermaster grinder with a CBN wheel on it. I'll know next time to soak the dressing sticks first. Your wedge adjuster is really cool! So the 10-32 is fixed in its block in your differential screw design?

Hi Steve, Great vid on how to true and dress a cbn wheel. I wish you could've added a small segment on how you side dressed (not true, you showed that) the cbn wheel. I used your information (on a previous vid) on how to true and dress a diamond wheel to great success. I was able to make my own precision ground flat stones from that vid. Also, what is that meter that I see you and Robin use for measuring small lengths i.e. .00005" or less? What is it called, do they still make them, who sells them?

      Hi Robert,
That is a Federal Amp Gage. They do still sell them. This is an older model that works great. I bought it off Ebay for a very good price. Robins is a Brown and Sharpe and he like those better. Mine has a 5 millionth resolution his has a 1. We both like the analog over the digital ones.

      Hi Dan,
CBN is Cubic Boron Nitride, I believe it is the second hardest material known to man just under diamond. Unlike diamond you can use CBN to cut harden steel but not carbide. Diamond wheels for carbide, CBN wheels for harden steels.
