It’s worth saying this is on the same album as Blackbird
And Bungalow Bill
And I Will
Same guy who sang Yesterday!
And Mother Nature's Son.
One of my favorite Beatles songs..only wish it were longer
It's part of the song - NEVER assume a Beatles song is over, they do that quite a few times.
A day in the life comes to mind.
This is considered to be one of the first “Metal” songs.
No
@@waynehackney5812 it is tho
@@waynehackney5812 it literally is tho lol
@@waynehackney5812 Ya Ha!
The Beatles' version rocks a whole lot harder than heavy metal band Mötley Crüe's version.
Someone asked John Lennon why Manson was obsessed with him. JL replied that he had no idea because Paul wrote and sang Helter Skelter.
That's weird. I didn't think Manson was obsessed with one particular Beatle. I thought he was obsessed with the *whole* band.
John was not lying. Paul had to do all the screaming 😱 because John said his voice was wrecked on their 1st album in 1962 doing Twist and Shout. If you listen to Twist and Shout you will see how much John put into that rocker.
The Beatles’ White Album is my favorite Beatles album.
NOBODY "screams" in a song like Paul! The ENTIRE White Album is genius.
White album is my favorite on!
"I've Got Blisters On My Fingers!!" Screamed by Ringo at the end because of the insane and hard hitting drum work and guitars on this one. Such an intense song that gave way to other songs that were just as intense.
The recording that they released was also like take number 18 in a row
have you watched "Yes Man" with Jim Carrey? There is a scene where he plays the guitar and then he says this exact sentence, and I was so proud of myself when I watched for the first time and got the Beatles reference (and I think I was watching the brazilian portuguese dubbed version, so I was REALLY proud of myself for catching that LOL)
Tis John that screamed.
No, it was Ringo.
Listened 5 times in a row in it just keeps getting better
He needs to hear " i've got a feeling" and "Oh darling" paul's voice in these songs is really amazing!
They actually have a ballad called "Oh! Darling" where he uses his harsh voice in the chorus. It's a great song, from a great album (Abbey Road).
And “I’ve got a feeling” from Let it be
@@annakermode6646 And "Maybe I'm Amazed". Not to mention almost every Wings live performance.
“Oh Darlin’” is my favorite example of Paul’s ripping vocals!
And "Birthday" also from the White Album.
And “Let Me Roll It” from his solo career.
According to an interview I heard, Paul wrote this song after hearing a song by The Who, that he thought was the most raucous song he'd heard to date. He took that as a challenge, and this was the response. Game, set, and match.
That's true Randy. I'm familiar with the interview you referenced. If I remember correctly after the Who did I Can See For Miles Paul decided that they needed a song to be louder and heavier than that.
It was the song, "I Can See For Miles". Paul didn't even hear the song. He was inspired to write "Helter Skelter" after he read an interview with Pete Townshend and Pete described the band's new song ( "I Can See For Miles") as the loudest, rawest, dirtiest song that 'The Who' had ever written.😊👌
I don't think Ringo Starr gets enough credit or mentions for his drumming skills.
AMEN !!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it's because he played tastefully and thoughtfully for the song. He wasn't an amazing technician, but who cares. Imagine another drummer onn these songs and it wouldn't work
Dya think!!!

This is the birth of metal as far as I'm considered
This song is actually a song about an amusement park ride in
England called Helter Skelter
Considered by the music industry as the first Heavy Metal song. And this the ultimate F you to all the people at the time who said John Lennon was the rocker and Paul McCartney was the crooner.
John WAS the rocker, that's why this song is so clumsy and awkward....Paul is trying to out do The Who
@@markallen2984 It's ironic, then, that John was always jealous of Paul's "granny shit".
It's always the case in life, though - no matter how talented you are, there's always someone in the same fucking band that's more talented than you.
@@El__Forastero Lets not forget whos band it was! Johns! He started it and ended it on his terms!
None of that is true.
@@markallen2984 Clumsy and awkward? Absolutely not "Helter Skelter". LOL I've *never* heard anybody refer to that song as "clumsy and awkward. I've heard "masterpiece", "brilliant", "work of art", "genius" and many more. But never "clumsy and awkward". Paul was trying to outdo "I Can See For Miles" by The Who. He read an article where Pete Townshend said that their new song was the "loudest", "rawest", "dirtiest" song 'The Who' has ever done. So, that's what prompted Paul to write "Helter Skelter". He wanted to do something like what Pete Townshend was talking about. He wanted to make a song that was really loud and raunchy. And he did do that. Better than "I Can See For Miles" that's for sure.😊👍
Beatles were like magicians. No other band like them.
The Beatles did heavy and did it damn good. In just 7 years they did every type of music, and sold at least 600 million while they were together, and more in the years after. A fabulous group, not stuck in a time warp, like so many others. I truly love all types of music. But these guys were Wow. Great reaction Jovaughn as ever.
Apparently Charles Manson thought they were sending him signals through this song...which was why the book and movie about him shared the title.
😂😂😂
Acid. It's a hell of a drug.
HS was code for a racewar for kooky charly may he roast in sh*thell
@Rose Madder Hey babycakes x 2! I have missed you SO much but have been horribly ill as you know. EM you tom (sunday) and catch up. Love to you both. xx
I hate the fact that that nut job Manson and family have become associated with this song. That has absolutely nothing to do with The Beatles. I’m sure they were appalled when they heard that.
This song made so much more sense to me when I learned Helter Skelter was a British amusement park slide.
This song is just one of the jewels of that album; classic, intelligent and groundbreaking.
And being followed by Long Long Long - such a great arrangement.
Paul played lead guitar on this one. John was actually playing bass!
No shit? I never realized that
What was George up to?
@@Earthtime3978 Paul & George shared the lead guitar duties. George is on slide guitar as well
Paul & George shared the lead guitar duties. George is on slide guitar as well
Some say Paul played the bass as well though based on audio from a take
Proto Metal/Punk to my ears. This must have been pretty intense for listeners back then when you think of what most songs sounded like in 1968. I've loved this song for many years, one of my favorites. McCartney's vocal range on this song is mind boggling!
This song was extreme for the Beatles. My mother was a huge Beatles fan and it shocked her because it was so violent and intense, but she loved it. Even my grandparents loved the Beatles, but the love songs and happy songs. This song scared the crap out of them, so much that they told my mother not to play it again unless she was wearing headphones. The word “rape” was used in this song, that was NOT a word you’d hear on the radio back then, it terrified my grandparents. Then I late 1969 this song sadly became associated with Charles Manson and his lunatic “Family”. The word “Healter Skelter” was written in blood at one of the murder scenes.
@@Mike-rk8px , the word "rape" isn't in this song.
@@Mike-rk8px What you talking about? Have you actually listened to the lyrics?
@@Mike-rk8px I think you meant “make” not “rape”.
If you liked this song and Paul's gritty voice, give Oh Darling a listen to. It'll blow your mind. So great!
Paul had some strong coffee and his Wheaties that morning.
The song is organized chaos. It’s nice the double album gave them freedom to record it.
I think there was some thing about the four of them together that their creativity just made magic. They fit together so well and made rock ‘n’ roll what it is today. I loved your reaction!
I know the Beatles were special but pre-internet, every town and city in the UK a different style bubbled up, like Portishead, The Specials, Sex Pistols, Joy Division. Although we had BBC radio, before internet, musical styles were much more autonomous
Next psychedelic song from the Beatles.. Tomorrow Never Knows! 💙🎼✌️
Paul said he wrote this to beat the Who on the "heaviness" of sound. And he did.The two bands were friends actually..
I read to beat "I Can See For Miles".😊
Great song... I've got blisters on my fingers!! 😂
Just a note....they recorded this on Sept. 9, 1968. Only FOUR DAYS after they filmed the "Hey Jude" video. So when you see Paul sitting there at the piano, looking all cute and innocent, just remember what was going to come out of him FOUR DAYS LATER! LOL.
You need to listen to Revolution by The Beatles. I don't call myself a Beatles fan, but Revolution was a song that was a bit ahead of it's time, regarding the sound and the way it was produced.
Great song. If that song is reacted to, I recommend this performance video of the song: ua-cam.com/video/BGLGzRXY5Bw/v-deo.html
@@otisdylan9532 Yes I want him to listen to that version. Much heavier and rockin. Studio version seems weak and dry. George is definitely more up in the mix in the video version
Everytime I hear this song, Manson pops in my head.
Yeah F*** that guy for putting his stain all over the White album
Claimed by many to be the world's first 'heavy metal' song.
Yeah, the debate continues, pointless really. Blue Cheer, Vanlla Fudge, even the Monks: the heaviness was growing everywhere.
Officialy it's a hardrock song cause the term metal didn't excist yet, but if you compare it to other hardrock songs from the same era it's a lot heavier
"Heavy Metal" didn't exist at the time. It later replaced "Hard Rock," which was a new label in 1968.
Hi Jayvee The Beatles were, are and always will be the greatest, creative, inspirational band the world will ever see period. All the best Jim, Surrey, England
This song marked the birth of heavy metal when it was recorded on 10 September 1968. I too was born on the same day.
For me, this is where punk began
I can't wait for this! One of my favourite songs by them!!!
It' s amazing: they could write and play any kind of music..I love "Come togheter" , "Back in the Ussr" and "Free as a Bird"
I’ll recommend you to use the space key for the titles.
I love Ringo at the end, I,ve got blisters on my fingers. There were only 42 months between the 3 of us and while we didn't know what to make of the song what Ringo cried out at the end cracked me and my brothers up, we were in our mid teens in 1968. That brought some wonderful memories back as my Mum couldn't believe what she was hearing and her face made us laugh even harder. Poor Mum, we were her terrors and her darlings lol. Time for bed now so goodnight my friends God bless you all love hugs and peace to everyone Mary-Ellen UK
Every new Beatles album was a surprise. Every kid rushed to get it the day it came out. You could impress the girls if you had the latest Beatles album... Happy days
This is George Harrison on guitar. And Paul is showing who he really is when he lets loose. It is their hardest rock song.
Still sounds heavy.. I did read rumours that the Beatles wanted to go in this direction but Harrison wasn't keen.
If true, one of them would have gone that direction after breaking up a couple years later.
I think that it's for the best that they didn't. I like it as a change of pace, but not as the primary thing that the Beatles did.
@@chronomatt6990 there's a book I read a while ago that alleges that Paul was growing frustrated with George's reluctance to embrace that heavier genre of rock . John even mused about getting Clapton to replace George. I think these ideas were more off the cuff and reflective of tensions within the band at the time.
This was 1968. All Beatles songs were pre-1970, which is when they broke up. Lots & lots of music separately after that, but never again as The Beatles!
Most of the White Album is great, & offers a myriad of styles. You've listened to this, & While My Guitar Gently Weeps. For sharp contrast, you should next listen to I Will - one of Paul's most beautiful love songs, & his tribute to The Beach Boys, Back In The USSR. And John's sweet tribute to his mother, Julia. Listen to the whole album! You'll be very glad you did!!
I wouldn't say the whole Album is great... But there are a ton of really good songs with a few quite bad ones
I consider myself an absolutely massive massive Beatles fan, but even I dislike a couple of songs on the whites album, but having said that you are so right, so many styles and different types of music on it, as a whole it’s an incredible album, I am shocked by how even after more than 50 years how modern it sounds.
I would also put Dear Prudence on that list of must listen to songs from the White Album.
@@antonioiniguez1615 Such as?
I'd agree with you EXCEPT when it comes to Revolution number 9. I can't listen to it, it gives me the creeps.
All the same song with false endings and Ringo screaming his iconic, “I got blisters on my fingers!”
Don Mclean mentions this song in his song (American pie).
The Beatles, no two songs alike, absolutely amazing and you you think of how old they were when they they wrote such masterpieces, it blows your mind- my mind!
I have a hard time understanding the thumbs down. Just basic ignorance of music I guess. This is ground breaking stuff here. ❤✌
Can't lie excited for this one
Nice!!! I like that you continue reacting to beatles. There are lots of their songs that are must to listen.
It’s not one song but check out their abbey road medley
Listen to Paul sing 'Monkberry Moon Delight' from his "Ram" album, he uses the same voice. This album is from 1968, it hits practically every genre of music on the 2 LPs. The 4th side gets weird with a music collage 'Revolution 9' followed by the sappy 'Good Night' sung by Ringo.
In 1968, this track sounded like a glimpse into the future of rock music.
I wore out this album on vinyl, then later on tape, later yet the CD is still functional ... it's eternally good.
The first US "Beatles" LP, "Introducing The Beatles," on Black-owned VeeJay Records, was released in September, 1963. And I first heard them on a Chicago radio station in October, 1963.
I next heard them -- "I Want to Hold Your Hand" -- beginning in November, 1963, on an all-night radio program. Then, in response to increasing requests, the DJ began playing "I Saw Her Standing There". He said it was the "B"-side, but it began, "One, two, three, FAH!" -- it was actually from the VeeJay LP. He described them as "the latest big thing in England," and -- I distinctly remember -- he predicted that "They will never go anywhere".
One December 31, 1963, "I Want to Hold Your Hand" was "Bubbling Under" the Top 40 of a New York radio station. The next day, January 1, 1964, it was #1 on that same station.
That was more than a month before they first appeared on "The Ed Sullivan Show".
I was 15 at the time.
The first LP I bought, in 1963, was "The Beach Boys" "Surfin' USA". And I have others of theirs. ("The Ventures" were also big at the time.) Their music to that point was "surf" music -- but only Dennis, the drummer, actually surfed. The song "Surfin' USA" used the music of Chuck Berry's "Sweet Little Sixteen".
And car tunes -- exploiting a theme that Chuck Berry had established.
But there was no way they were at the level of "The Beatles," and I lost interest in them when they didn't progress. They simply couldn't keep up.
This is the first hardrock-punk-grunge song before these genres ever exist
Thank you I was born in 1962 I grew up listening to the Beatles..,....damn good music.....
There are a number of songs on the "Help" album that haven't been reacted too but deserve it. "The Night Before" is a good example as is "You're Gonna Lose That Girl".
The White Album will always remind me of my son. We got stuck on the freeway for several hours after an accident ahead of us. He already loved The Beatles but we took a deep dive into this album. Listening to every song and doing sort of a reaction; starting and stopping the music to discuss!!! He was 9 or 10 at the time.
Thats amazing, i can picture it so vividly. My Dad taught me about the beatles so I relate a lot ❤
@@Sam-bd7gp what is amazing is that my son (who is now 34) is also named “Sam”! Believe it or not! ✌🏼♥️🎶
@@peacetoyou63 Nice! One more coincidience, the white album is my favourite of theirs. He and I watched the Get Back documentary this week and were discussing it. (He was reluctant to choose one but when I pressed him he said Abbey Road). Take care 😃
@@Sam-bd7gp The White Album is Sam’s favorite also; I have a hard time choosing between Rubber Soul and Revolver.
The part where he says I got blisters on my fingers is crucial. 🙂❤
I got this album for Christmas in 1968.
Paul uses the same yell-y shout-y voice in "Oh Darling" and the Wings song "Maybe I'm Amazed," and also doing the harmony part in the chorus of "Don't Let Me Down."
The White Album is so beautifully put together. George Martin was a genius.
George Martin insisted it should be cut down to a single LP.
Have you bought any of the deluxe re-issues? Have you noticed how they don't flow the same as when George Martin was at the helm? Giles might be his father's son....but I don't think he has the same ears as his dad.
You see why they are the most influential bands in history. Rock was still young and they just wilded out with experimentation.
As mentioned, "Oh Darlin'" and from much earlier, "I'm Down! Paul lets rip, occasionally!!
The Beatles were certainly one of the most dynamic bands of all time. This song introduced a new style of music to the world.
"Look out, cuz here she comes!!"
Within 4 years they went from I want to hold your hand to helter skelter. I can’t think of any band who adapted so dramatically and innovatively as the Beatles
Love everything on the White album. Actually feel the same about every album. Still have every album they did...in vinyl, 8 track tapes, cassettes etc.
That was RINGO yelling at the end "I GOT BLISTERS ON MY FINGERS."
❤❤The BEATLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Paul is quoted (referring to this song) saying, “I just love noise”. That just about sums it up. 🌺✌️
The Beatles....
That says it all!
♥️♥️♥️♥️
Yes when you dive into the Beatles you’ll forever be surprised
I love this track as a wonderful exercise in energy and noise but I don’t think it’s where you should go next but I’m intrigued by your reaction. I think Come Together might be more interesting.
I did that one but can’t get it out on UA-cam they keep blocking it

Also what’s so amazing is that this song is from 1968 and many consider it the invention of metal. It also influenced a lot of the bigger rock bands that came lit on the 70’s. Completely avant garde and amazing. Geniuses.
Picture of a helter skelter! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helter_skelter_(ride) you sat on a prickly doormat thing to slide down, usually on end of a pier at the seaside.
Ringo's drumming on this is perfect.
It would be wonderful if you listen to their album or just continue songs from this album one by one. Next song is “long long long ” and you can see huge contrast between this two
I love the Motley Crue version too, it's actually really amazing. Helter Skelter is considered one of, if not the first, heavy metal song (funny that it comes from the Beatles!), and seeing how Motley Crue took it fully formed into metal, and did an excellent job of it, is awesome. I wonder what the Beatles thought of Motley Crue's version?
It was on The White Album & was recorded in 1968 and it was the first Heavy Metal song ever recorded
The very 1st heavy metal song!!!!
We love you Beatles, oh yes we do. We love you Beatles and we’ll be true🥰🥰🥰🥰
What blows my mind is not that the Beatles eventually got to this point... but that they got from "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" to this in five feckin' years. Most bands barely change their core sound in a five-year span; whereas the Beatles turned the entire rock and roll genre upside-down and inside-out, and then set it on fire, in just half a decade.
“I got blisters on my fingas!” Is Ringo after about the 15th take! Paul had said he wanted them to do something as heavy as possible…pre metal!
Paul is the man of a thousand voices. Released in 1968.
One of the most shocking examples of Paul's vocal versatility comes when ""Why Don't We Do It In The Road" ends and "I Will" begins. It's hard to believe it's the same person singing both.
Helter Skelter is a Fairground ride , It is a spiral slide from a height. You slide down on a rug to stop you getting burnt by the friction. Apparently this song was written trying to sound as dirty and hard as possible in response to songs that rival bands such as The Who and the kinks had come up with. It’s seen as the birth of heavy metal and has been Subject to people reading deeply into the meaning of the song which Paul says is meaningless nonsense…
Supposedly I Can See For Miles by the Who inspired the song.
I love the Beatles ! Just great music ! 😍😍keep up the good work !
The Beatles are the PERFECT BAND!
The Beatles could do anything musically. From heavy metal to gentle ballad, from cheesy pop to psychedelia, from experimental to nostalgia. Their very eclecticism is why some - but only some - deluded fools don't like them. They hear the Beatles singing in one genre and decide it's not for them, not realising there is a massive catalogue of literally all other genres. Or they say this group can't concentrate on one sound, I want a group that's going to sound the same every time.
I listened to this song before a high school football game in 81' and went for 380 yards and 6 touchdowns that night... True story
This was still the sixties,1968 to be exact
THE BEATLES "THE FOOL ON THE HILL"..CLASSIC.
Paul pushed for this song after The Who's Roger Daltrey bragged his band had recorded the loudest song ever. This is Paul McCartney saying "Hold my beer!"
The later versions didn’t have Ringo’s amazing drumming.
Pure genius. ❤❤
It's a proper tune love it lol
They are awesome!!! Thank you!!! 😀
Well you may be a lover but you ain't no dancer - a truly classic R&R line if ever there was one.
The last time all 4 of the Beatles recorded a song together was January 3, 1970. They recorded a song of George Harrison’s called “I Me Mine” at Abbey Road Studios in London. They broke up officially on April 10, 1970.
John didn't participate in any sessions after August 69.
"Helter Skelter" was so dispositioned against expectations when it was released in late 1968 that many people at the time didn't know what to make of it. Had The Beatles lost their minds after indulging in all that psychedelia? Unfortunately, that confusion led to some exceptionally evil interpretations of the song, in particular, those of cult-leader Charles Manson, who read the song as a herald of an apocalyptic race-war he thought he could start with several gruesome murders he orchestrated in 1969. The prosecutor who put Manson in prison for those murders wrote a book about the case a few years later titled "Helter Skelter" which quickly became a bestseller. When I was a kid back in the 70's it was one of those books that was supposed to scare you into not picking up hitch hikers and such.
Dont forget people had all sorts of stories about playing the album backwards - Paul is dead I think or maybe it was Paul is alive - I forget it was so long ago 😂
