    Let's face it: the whole point of doing vocal training is to be able to sing songs better. After all, no one will ask you to sing “Nae Nae Nae” to impress them. Everyone wants to sing songs!
    However, most beginning singers will actually just sing the same songs over and over, without actually improving them. They think that just singing a song on repeat will improve it. However, the truth is that you want to break down songs in order to sing them as best as you possibly can. So rather than just doing vocal exercises, we need to actually learn how to break down songs.
    Now the truth is that singing songs is actually harder than singing vocal exercises. Why is that? Well, when you're singing a vocal exercise, the whole point is to keep something constant. It could be the vowel, the consonant, or the dynamic. And usually the scale will change.
    Vocal exercises are designed this way so that your voice is able to achieve a new skill that it wasn't able to do before. However when you're singing songs, you're dealing with changes in the vowel, the consonant, melody, and the volume or dynamic that you're singing at.
    So before you go to sing your favorite song again and get stuck in the same old places, I want to teach you my three step process to gain total vocal control over a song. First, before you sing, it's important to look at the words, the melody and duration. This will help you know what to expect when you're singing songs. Kind of like a coach draws out the plays before his players get on the field. So if you can, look at the sheet music. And don't worry if you can't read sheet music. Sometimes it's just really helpful to see the shape of the notes in the way that you're supposed to sing them.
    Here's my 3-step system to gain total control over any song. In the first step you're going to find a great vocal exercise for your voice. That may be a “Gee Gee Gee” or “Nae Nae Nae” on a particular scale. It's just important that you make sure that this exercise works really well for you. We call this a home base exercise.
    In step two, you're going to sing the vocal exercise on the melody of the song. In other words you're going to replace the melody of the song with the vocal exercise. So instead of singing “oh won't you stay with me”, you might sing “Gee Gee Gee Geeeeee Gee Gee Gee Gee” on the melody.
    In the final step you're going to go back and sing the lyrics, but you want to keep the same feeling as you got with the vocal exercises on the melody. If you do this correctly, you'll notice that the vocal exercise will help you sing the melody of the song better. Then, you can go back to sing the lyrics and still hit the notes in the same way as you did with the vocal exercise. These three steps while really simple are incredibly powerful in helping you sing any song better.

      Hey Dan, in a way your question assumes that the resonance should only be oral or nasal. Actually, most vowels have a combination of nasal and oral resonance. If you were just oral, it would sound like you have a cold. If you were just nasal, it would sound, well nasal. Overall, I'm singing more oral than nasal though

    Hi, Ramsey! I see western music requires various registers like chest voice, head voice, falsetto, mixed voice etc. But Indian musicians only require chest voice. Why is that? I mean if chest voice is enough for reaching my full tessitura then why do I need to learn other registers like head voice?

    • @ramseyvoicestudio
      @ramseyvoicestudio  3 роки тому

      Hey Mir, by definition, if you're only using chest voice, then you're eliminating large segments of your potential range and tessitura. It's best to learn to sing across your entire range and make the chest voice sound as good as possible. Chances are if you're not singing with ANY head voice, then your chest voice range will suffer.

    • @Error60616
