Being from Idaho, no one gave a crap about Sonic the Hedgehog when I was a kid in the early 2000s. I was picked on for my passion for it; what those kids did not realize is that Sonic is what kept my spirits high during awful times at home. Years later, it's funny see those kids who picked on me grow up to have children who love Sonic and thus buy Sonic stuff for them. Case in point, Sonic 2 was the movie I wanted for so long and now it seems those people finally get why Sonic is beloved and how he comforted so many after all these years. Paramount got it right and I'm excited for Sonic 3.
A lot of the Mortal Kombat 1995 movie was filmed in Thailand! The temple in the background at 9:23 is called Wat Chaiwatthanaram, which was built back in Ayutthaya in 1630 by King Prasat Thong as the first temple of his reign and a memorial for his mother. It was designed in Khmer style to gain Buddhist merit. Ayutthaya was once a big kingdom with the city as its capital that lasted from 1351 to 1767. King Rama I, who founded Bangkok, is from there. Other temples used for the movie's production were Wat Phra Si Sanphet and Wat Ratchaburana (both in Ayutthaya as well). The arrival of Earth's contestants via boats, Liu Kang's meditation scene and the fight between Liu Kang and Kitana were filmed at the Railay Beach and the Phra Nang Beach. Say what you want, but the movie did a good job showcasing Thailand to the world. And speaking of Goro: Goro was portrayed by an elaborate $1 million animatronic created by Tom Woodruff Jr. and Alec Gillis of Amalgamated Dynamics and operated by 13 to 16 puppeteers! Because of how advanced it was, it kept breaking down, and the person operating Goro from inside could only do so for two minutes at a time due to lack of oxygen, so its screentime was reduced.
I'll say Uwe decision to fight his critics is a lot less impressive when he didn't fight some of them that, you know, have a background in fighting. One of his major detractors was Seanbaby, who was a critic that actually knew how to fight, and he evaded him like the plague to protect his own ego. Seanbaby even challenged him directly, after he fought some critics. That makes him seem even more childish.
Super Mario Bros was shooting at the same time as Jurassic Park, so the comment about "every dinosaur movie had to look like Jurassic Park" is incorrect. Even people on the Jurassic Park crew came to see and admire how good Yoshi looked
@@ForrestFox626 Regardless of that, it’s still a good movie. If it was it’s own movie, it probably would have gotten better reception but even today it has a cult following, myself included.
the uncharted movie, actually kinda FEELS like the game though, starting in the middle of batshit insanity, cutting to a flashback, that progresses up to where everything started, then the "final act" happens, like its a mid movie, but it felt more like it was trying to imitate the way the game told its story, than any other game movie ive seen.
He missed a lot of other video game Movies. Kof(live action) Final fantasy advent children Street fighter generations Streetfighter alpha movie Street figher 4. Etc

I’m 35 and I stil VIVIDLY remember that first Pokémon movie in theraters and the ash stone scene! It doesn’t deserve low ratings from ppl who wasn’t there at the time! That movie in theaters was EVERYTHING
I would say that th pokemon movies are less video game movies but anime movies, they after the big hit of the anime, which was more based of a comic based off the game, and when directly connected to the anime as a big adventure for the anime characters. The anime and games were very different form each other too...
I came to the comments to say this same thing. It only bothered me because he spent so much time talking about Pokémon movies and I dont consider those video game movies at all, lol
I hold a theory as to why Daisy was in the 90s Mario movie instead of Peach. See, at the time of the movie’s release, Peach was still known as “Princess Toadstool” in the west; her Japanese name of Peach wasn’t used in a big title until Super Mario 64. However, Daisy _was_ named in her appearance in Super Mario Land. Given the creators obviously had very little knowledge of the source material, I think they saw a princess be named in Super Mario Land, looked at absolutely nothing else, and assumed that Daisy was the same character as Princess Toadstool and so the princess in the movie was named Daisy because of that.
It's funny cause my parents watched Uncharted and had no clue it was based on a game until I told them, but even before I told them, they thought it was a waste of time. On the other hand, my gf thought it was really good and thought it was one of the best movies she's ever seen. Then there's me, a pretty hardcore gamer that's only played the multiplayer of Uncharted 3. Even without a strong connection to the games, I refused to watch it, purely because the terrible casting made it look like a cash grab

Tomb Raider (2018) 5. Uncharted (2022) 4. Lara Croft:Tomb Raider (2001) 3. Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie (1994) 2. Mortal Kombat (1995) 1. Silent Hill (2006)
My understanding of the response to the Warcraft movie... WoW players didn't seem to like it much... Because contrary to what you think in this video, and what a lot of people thought at the time... It is not for WoW players. It was for original Warcraft the strategy game players. And as such, I loved it.
I have a HUGE soft spot for Prince of Persia. I know everyone hates it, but i actually think Disney cranked out a fun movie. It had humor, it had action. I still love it to this day
Honestly coming back to watching this channel and its content is nostalgic for me, hell I remember watching him for the first time more than a few years ago 😊
As a child up until the age of 11, I was a super fan of the Mario franchise, I had no clue that a movie was made in 1993 and when I found out I was so excited to see what that was like, and then I searched up the trailer on Google and was instantly traumatized, so scarred to the point that it took me 2 years to finally watch it. It was one of my proudest fears I ever conquered lol
You forgot about the anime Tekken game from the late 90s that took place between Tekken 2 and 3 released prior to Tekken 3 on the PS1. Ironically the first live action film takes place between 4 and 5 and can technically take place right before the CGI movie.
The most painful video game movie is the one that never happened; the flop fighter jet movie Stealth was originally intended to be a Star Fox movie. I'm one of the few people who will defend Stealth as at least grudgingly okay, but as a avid Lylat Wars fan I will forever wonder what could have been. Also you seem to have missed Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children/Complete and Street Fighter Assassin's Fist. While neither were mind blowing, Advent Children basically spawned an entire sub genre of fight scenes and is directly responsible for RWBY, and Assassin's Fist was at least relatively faithful to the franchise roots. They were both shown in cinemas here in the UK so they should have been included, especially since Advent Children is the canon continuation of the FF7 story.
Great video🤣 Really made me remember my childhood in the 2000s in Nigeria. Also, I NEED to watch Postal. I love the irreverent and edgy dark humor it has. Reminds me of the shows from the 90s I used to watch on cable back home.
Everyone forgets Cloak & Dagger which is the ACTUAL first video game movie. It's based on an existing arcade game. It WAS going to have an Atari 5200 game that never came out, which is why some people don't count it, BUT THE GAME WAS IN ARCADES FIRST.
Don’t know anything about the game but that movie was a weird snooze fest….a lil kid is running around with a game cartridge in his back back that has secret military stuff on it the bad guys want, and the kid’s imaginary friend fights the bad guys….like what…😶😶
@@AdamAddictL Oh yeah, no, it's not very good, but it is historically significant. There's also tons of shots of unreleased games in the background and advertisements for the 2800 (japanese Atari.)
@@anactualmotherbear I mean,I don’t know enough to agree or disagree, and HELL I don’t even fault the movie for letting the kid have an imaginary friend, cuz like that’s what kids do right? Perfect timing. With The Super Mario Movie coming next month. HOPEFULLY it'll be better and makes up the horrible mistakes the 1993 one did and we can FINALLY pretend that one no longer exists! 🍿🎥
Before the live action Mario movie was even released, some Nintendo executives originally wanted the movie to stick closer to the games. There was even an early draft called “Drain Man,” since the script was very similar to “Rain Man.” Unfortunately, they hired a Husband and Wife duo of TERRIBLY incompetent directors who kept rewriting the script every day. So most of the actors didn’t even bother remembering the lines. And those two were the ones who hated the Mario games and wanted the movie to be like Max Hedroom. Also also, one of their original pics they wanted to direct the film was Harold Ramis (aka Egon from Ghostbusters), who was also a fan of Mario.
Very good video man. BTW, you forgot one video game movie that you didn't mention in the video, it is "Werewolves within." It was released on DVD in 2021, but it's a decent movie to watch from us who have watched it.
I adamantly defend the og Mario Bros movie. It has everything that makes Mario MARIO. Adventuring in a new mushroom-y dinosaur land complete with different environmental areas (ice level, desert level, etc), running, jumping, powerups and fireballs, princess saving. And of course Mario Mario and Luigi Mario. It's just popular to hate and I legit don't see a real reason to.
And speaking of jumping, I loved how they devised those special boots to sort of depict how far and high Mario and Luigi can jump in the games, but in a more realistic way.
I recently discovered your channel and I enjoy your content. The first Mortal Kombat, both Tomb Raiders films with Angelina Jollie and the Prince of Persia movies are my favourite ones. I also think they really capture the essence of the games. Thanks for addressing their positive aspects.
If they make video game movies, could there be a doors movie? It would be better than *suffering with entities such as some dude screaming SURPRISE CHICKENS YOU. JUST. GOT. AMBUSHED! Out of nowhere.* that'd be a hot line for ambush.
The main flaw with Double Dragon movie is it’s a very unfaithful adaptation of the the Double Dragon arcade game. It’s not in post apocalyptic New York, the main antagonist isn’t Willy Mackey, it’s not a serious tone movie, the Lee Brothers aren’t wearing the iconic costumes, Marian doesn’t get kidnapped, and most of the movie doesn’t show 2 component badass protagonists smashing bad guys. Also most of the weapons are absent in this unfaithful abomination. Double Dragon can be greatly improved with a hardcore Rated R serious tone remake that is very faithful.
Another thing to add to this would've been the five nights at freddy's movie. Like it's technically an indie horror game released back in 2014 that everyone was scared of. But then they grew on it, and eventually the fanbase was large. Now that there's a fnaf movie coming through, I wasn't sure if I would watch it, I can't stand horror movies. But since I've been in the fandom at one point, I'll try to. But the problem is like the Sonic movie syndrome, which the animatronics have red eyes that upset a lot of the fans. Now they're trying to make the studio to fix them, and I don't think it's gonna work in time. And then there's a live action Minecraft movie coming soon...
I would love to see a video like this for live action movies based on animation or for Commercials for things of a same subject. Ive dug up a bunch of commercials if you need to find them. also direct to DVD direct to Netflix movies or just whatever lands Advent Children and Dragon Quest My Story
Good lord I literally only got through a few seconds of that crappy Mario movie once I saw Mario with Luigi I literally turned it off and I was why in the world is Mario a old man while Luigi is literally looks like he’s in high school aren’t they supposed to be twin brothers????!!!!!!
Resident Evil: Extinction was the first film of that series that I watched and... yeah, I was rather confused. I hadn't played any of the games yet at that time, but I still had a pretty good idea of what they were like and that film definitely was not what I was expecting. Connor's Mad Max comparison seems fitting.
fun fact: Raul Julia who played M. Bison in the live action street fighters movie was actually dying of stomach cancer, he took the role of said character because his kids adored the franchise and he wanted to be in a movie that they'd enjoy.
48:25 the director tried to follow the setting of Jill getting brain washed in the fifth installment of the video game, but the whole movie just let the string get loose, feeling like no one cares about what is the core part of the story. Why does the director love such a unbeatable original bland character called Alice so much? Actually I am not a fan of that director Paul, even his original Underworld series doesn't attract me anyways (not a fan of vampire or vampire hunter thingys, only love that Tom Cruise x Brad Pitt movie), so I became a nasty guy who flooded negative reviews by creating multiple accounts and used them when Monster Hunter movie came out Re Afterlife is a forgettable movie, but I clearly remember the intro with pretty decent unsettling music where the zombie apocalypse started and the unrealisitic fighting scene in the bathroom, it is a cool approach for 12 year old me at that tome tho, although I still feel like it's just a below average popcorn film even far worse than the Transformers series
While it pales in comparison to the amazing and emotional stories of the game series, there was a live action Yakuza/Like a Dragon movie that was made (I think by Takashi Miike) and it's a pretty great martial arts/brawler type of film. It's a solid and entertaining fight B-Movie that is too often overlooked. Just don't expect it to be a great story or to follow any of the games all that much. While I lament the lack of a proper Like a Dragon storyline in a movie, I still like the film for what it is.
I don't remember who said it but the best ya I heard someone review the DOA movie was "I'd describe the plot for you...but I'm still not sure there was one."
When everyone says "your movies sucks" that is not critisism. That is called facts. His worst ever must be alone in the dark, holy shit, i just threw the remote and left the room to scrub my eyes with cyanide. Cool video ❤, i have tried to find this kind of video 😊. Thank you.
Spoiler: the next Sonic film will have Sonic’s evil doppelgänger Shadow in it. Hopefully Amy, Big, Cream, Princess Sally Acorn, Rotor, Bunnie Rabbot, Silver, and last and least that qwear French weasel Jacque in it.
I'm glad video game movies are starting to actually be good. Ok, it wasn't too surprising that sonic was good, because sonic has existed in cartoons for a while now, and is arguably better as a cartoon character than a video game character. Mario is most likely gonna be amazing, because nintendo is pretty much leaning over the shoulders of illumination for the new movie, and it's animated. Also, I just wanted to rant about this. Cartoons should stay as cartoons. I don't understand why hollywood has a hard time understanding that. I mean, look at what happened to the fairly oddparents. The live action reboot doesn't even feel like fairly oddparents. Of course, when done right, it can be good. Just look at sonic. Sonic is a cartoon character, but they managed to bring him into pseudo live action (sonic is animated in a live action world). I wish companies would stop making live action remakes of cartoons.
Sega owns the developers of Angry Birds Rovio, which means The Angry Birds movies are now Sega movies. This also means a Sega property crossed over with Disney before Wreck-It Ralph because Angry Birds had a crossover with the movie Rio, which Disney now owns because the people who made Rio Blue Sky are owned by Disney now. it's crazy that that's 100% true.
*Hot Take:* None of the live action Resident Evil movies were bad except for The Final Chapter. Fight me, I'll keep defending them till the day I die. They got me into the franchise when I was a kid and managed to play every single Resident Evil game. Loved most of them, didn't care for some, and outright disliked one of them. There's reasons why I think the movies aren't bad but I'm not gonna write an extremely long comment here. *Edit:* I never seen Welcome to Raccoon City. The Monster Hunter movie is pretty good too. I tried getting into the games in the past before the movie was announced and I found them pretty boring. Watched the movie and it got me interested in the games and I got Monster Hunter Rise on my Switch. The games are still not for me.
I agree,I also love the Mila JOVOvich(NOT “Joke”,Conner!) REV movies, even the last one! But you gotta admit they do have some problems. For examples, characters that disappeared for NO REASON/NEVER EXPLAINED within the movies.
About Guile from Street Fighter being played by a German guy not surprised his character is based off of a French and German character from a certain popular Bizarre anime and manga series
You talked about the movies for Layton and Yo-kai Watch (the movie’s a slightly abridged version of the second game by the way) and you didn’t bother talking about the Inazuma Eleven movie?! Come on! They’re all franchises by LEVEL-5!
Of course Mewtwo Strikes Back only has a 15% in 2023... We aren't allowed to say that a movie with the message of, you aren't limited to the circumstances of your birth, is good anymore. Because politics. I am going to respectfully leave it at that.
Here's a neat little factoid for you: The voice actor for Max Payne in the games is actually in the Max Payne movie, just not as Max Payne. I barely remember much about this movie so if I get some of the facts wrong, I apologize. Apparently, he had something of a bit part where he plays a mustachioed police officer during a scene where Max is surrounded by police with their guns drawn and trained on him, ready to shoot if he so much as moves to escape. Sadly, I don't remember how he gets out of that scenario, but I'm pretty sure he does. I'm guessing they didn't cast the voice actor as Payne because he doesn't look enough like the character he voiced even if you had him get rid of the mustache, so I can't really hold it against them too much. Also, I felt like the Max Payne movie wasn't that bad, but I also felt like it was somewhat similar to the movie they made for Sin City in regards to the two films' overall visual style where they try to be semi-noir and dark, but I think Sin City did it a bit better. I actually kind of like the Sin City movie for its narration and I think they nailed the casting for the most part. I don't know which came out first, but some of their more surreal imagery has a similar vibe to me. I mostly loved the movie for Marv. :)
The first time I saw a trailer for the final fantasy movie, I was like 6 and hadn't played any final fantasy games but I had seen my uncle's box for Final Fantasy X that always looked magical to me, so when I finally watched the movie it was like magic. I think it might be boring to me today, but I have a feeling I'd still have that feeling of wonder I felt back at the mall seeing that trailer at the Bose store
"It was nice to see a Sonic movie focus on Sonic instead of the humans" about a Sonic movie that.. spends an inordinate amount of time on the humans and their conflicts..
Cool Video, not sure if it’s supposed to be complete, there’s some movies you did not mention, for example one of the worst movies based on a fighting Game, King of Fighters. It’s horrible. But it was direct to DVD. As someone else mentioned, there’s a Like a Dragon/Yakuza movie from Japan, which is pretty good. There are several movies based on the Oneechanbara/ Bikine Zombie Slayers games. For a GOOD live-action Street Fighter movie, try Street Fighter: Assassins Fist. It’s low budget, but fantastic. Also some animated movies: Battle Arena Toshinden, Zone of the Enders, and some new Mortal Kombat animated movies. No criticism though, just some movies in my mind.
I was today years Old (44) when i realized that the Cammy Actress i always was in love with in my Mind is Kyle Minogue^^ I swear i saw that Movie at least 3 times since it came out and didn`t realize...
18:13 If I had a nickel for every 1999 movie that had a title that claimed the movie cane out in 2000, I'd have 2 nickels which isn't much but it's weird how it happened this many times.
Technically Resident Evil Degeneraton, Damnation, and Vandetta are not video game based movies like those god awful live action films. They are meant to act as filler taking place between 5 and 6. Damnation and Vandetta are set after after 6 but before 7. In fact, Capcom has confirmed said three films I mentioned are CANON. This is because Capcom directed, produced, wrote, and created the three films. They supervised everything and made sure these three films STRICTLY followed canon to a T-virus. So, your opinions don’t matter here. Weather you like or hate these three films, they are canon and can not be uncanonized since Capcom says they’re canon.
I feel like,if any reason at all,Conner didn’t do that one because if anything,it felt more like Sonic comic book-ish rather than video game-ish?? Idk 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️

the Sonic films were just about right, it is just human events in Sonic 2 don't stand out too much
Fun fact: The Pokémon and Yo-Kai Watch anime (episodes and movies) are both animated by the same studio (OLM)
Slight correction, Angry Birds was Sony, rather than Illumination. Sometimes the two companies are similar, though

“Do not shoehorn the U.S. Military in Video Game Movies! I’m sick of it.” (Spider-Man, 2018)
I'll say Uwe decision to fight his critics is a lot less impressive when he didn't fight some of them that, you know, have a background in fighting.
In all honesty, the Mario movie is decent as it’s own film, in my opinion. I watched it AGES ago and still love the industrial vibe of Dinohattan.
The problem is it isn't its own film

Haters gonna hate, the newer movie is far better than the '93 movie.
Actually Connor the Angry Birds movie was made by Sony Animation, not Illumination!🤓
It’s easy to confuse them though…the styles can be similar at times (not always)
Sony’s animation is a little more over the top and cartoonish. Compare Hotel Transylvania to Despicable Me.
That thing about main duos being goofy started in the late 70s thanks to Cheech & Chong
Maybe Laurel and Hardy had an influence too
I hold a theory as to why Daisy was in the 90s Mario movie instead of Peach.

It’s a very cheesy Resident Evil kinda movie and it’s always a fun watch.
From what I remember, going from Sands of Time game to movie, the film does feel like the game.

I actually think Advent Children was a pretty good epilogue to Final Fantasy VII.
Great video🤣 Really made me remember my childhood in the 2000s in Nigeria. Also, I NEED to watch Postal. I love the irreverent and edgy dark humor it has. Reminds me of the shows from the 90s I used to watch on cable back home.
$27 a small popcorn? Nah, that's too cheap
1:00:09 Um.....No. This movie was made by Columbia with animation by Sony Pictures Imageworks.

Before the live action Mario movie was even released, some Nintendo executives originally wanted the movie to stick closer to the games. There was even an early draft called “Drain Man,” since the script was very similar to “Rain Man.”
Unfortunately, they hired a Husband and Wife duo of TERRIBLY incompetent directors who kept rewriting the script every day.

The 2ed movie of that became a comic. If you wont to know what happen next.

I didn't know about some of these movies. I didn't even knew that Persona series has movies and I am a fan of the Persona games!

The angry birds movie was actually animated by sony/rovio animation
fun fact: Raul Julia who played M.
Actually I am not a fan of that director Paul, even his original Underworld series doesn't attract me anyways (not a fan of vampire or vampire hunter thingys, only love that Tom Cruise x Brad Pitt movie), so I became a nasty guy who flooded negative reviews by creating multiple accounts and used them when Monster Hunter movie came out
Re Afterlife is a forgettable movie, but I clearly remember the intro with pretty decent unsettling music where the zombie apocalypse started and the unrealisitic fighting scene in the bathroom, it is a cool approach for 12 year old me at that tome tho, although I still feel like it's just a below average popcorn film even far worse than the Transformers series

I think why sonic works in the real world, because sonic has exist in the real world before, sonic adventure 1&2, and sonic x

I tried getting into the games in the past before the movie was announced and I found them pretty boring. Watched the movie and it got me interested in the games and I got Monster Hunter Rise on my Switch. The games are still not for me.
