      The only way I can braid my hair in a timely and effective manner is with wet hair or if I put right straightened my hair. It doesn't matter how much conditioner I use it has to be wet. Afterwards I'll sit under a dryer to keep to the style.

      If you thin curly hair….. well you are going to regret it. You will amplify the flyaways and as stylists we are taught this very early on. I have curly hair but the texture is not enough that i have to leave it curly as it is more wavy/ curly. I do thin my hair maybe 2x a year max! The wet hair braid is because hair is at its weakest when its wet. Those super tight styles can cause breakage and weak spots in the hair. I also grew up in a white straight hair family and had no one to help me with my hair growing up so im still
      Learning (sorry forgot the other thing she said while giving you a little bit of my knowledge and personal story 😅)

      SAME! I'm a white, curly girl too. My mother also has curly hair but not NEARLY as curly as mine. And she always brushed her hair into the big 80s style 'do with the poofy bangs. So since I certainly had no interest in wearing that style for myself, I had zero idea what to do with my hair. I lived in buns throughout junior high/ high school. It wasn't until my early 20s that I started figuring out how to actually wear it down. And always had my hair thinned when I would get it cut. 😬 I'm in my early 30s now and just learning how to really take care of my curls.

    • @kkpuz96
      @kkpuz96 Рік тому +10

      @@HS-jh4zm the one thing I know NOT to follow is the "curly girl method". It weighed down my hair and just blahhh. I'll never ever add any type of straight oil to my hair. Also, ethnic products are way too rich and weigh down my hair and make it oily by the 2nd day. I've never had a problem with Not Your Mother's (their mousse is bomb), Pacifica, and Hask. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Also, diffusing has never done me wrong!
      That's all I know so far. 🤣

      Your hair is more fragile when it's wet. Since buns are usually super tight, it's already pulling on your hair a lot, so doing it with wet hair is rven worse and can pull out more hairs. Same with braids, they are usually done tightly, so with wet hair it'll pull more hairs out.

    Used to get my hair thinned because it was long and heavy, when heavy it looked like frizzy straight hair. Cut my hair for the first time (first time meaning anything more than an inch.) as a teen and then always brushed and assumed my hair was just dumb. Now I know I have wavy/curly hair 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

    We want hair to be a little oily, not dirty. Second or third day after washing hair is ideal. The natural oils protect the scalp from the chemicals processing

    When I do my braids on wet moisturized hair, I sit under a hooded dryer after so I won't get hydro fatigue. After learning what hydro fatigue is, I never sleep with wet hair or let my hair stay wet for long hours.🙋🏾‍♀️

    I used to get keratin treatments on my hair intentionally to loosen my hair. I know it wasn’t great, at the time I really struggled to do my hair and it made life a bit easier but now I know it was probably damaged.
    I also used to use thinning scissors at home for the same reason, did not work out 😢

    I remember as a child getting my hair thinned with texturing scissors at every single haircut. To the point I thought it was a necessity into my adulthood. I have curly hair (2/3c) but it has never been high density or thick so not exactly sure why I would have had that done other than nobody really knew how to care for my hair texture. I've been on my curly hair journey for probably 15 yrs and I'm still learning more and more every day about how to take care of my curls.

    Was told not to strip my hair of the natural oils before coloring.
    My curly hair, braids best damp or wet. Looks great after drying and taken down. My instructor used thinning shears on my curly hair when I took 12 inches off and styled it similarly like yours, and it was beautiful! I Loved the layers! Made my own mask of deep conditioner and coconut oil after hair color dried my hair out and my hair soaked it up and made a full recovery immediately.
