- This week in the cottage garden, I replanted one of the raised beds that were looking untidy. I wanted to transition it from Spring to Summer, and I planted some snapdragons into the bed. Also, I put up my new parasol in the seating area to make it feel cosy, and now I have an area of shelter in the garden.

Lovely, lovely, lovely! That seating area with the Adirondack chairs has turned out to be so beautiful. I loved how you cleaned up the flower bed by braiding the leaves. The little leaf "buns" add an architectural element. Hope your headache has lifted.

I do not think it to big. It feels just right to me and such a cozy area to wander many a day .A cold drink and maybe a book and just enjoy the nature outside

I once heard that the measure of a great garden is its ability to delight and surprise. Catherine, your garden has truly developed into a joyful surprise over these past years!
I hope you are feeling better and that your headache did not develop into a migraine. If it helps, I found that listening to Tibetan singing bowls tracks meant for meditation really helps when I get really terrible headaches. I think the type of frequency in them helps.

Garden so tidy. A bit of mowing I knew it. Seating area so nice with your beautiful umbrella. Please remember to take down umbrella before lighting firepit. The smell will never go away. Lean back, close your eyes maybe your headache will go away. Have a wonderful weekend.

How pretty , I can watch you all the time, you made me laugh with the sun shade it is huge, we have a similar one it has lights in it’s underside, would suit you perfectly for sitting in your cosy corner. Love the seating area. You could build a shallow removable box around the base of your umbrella and fill it with gravel and place your pots on the gravel. At the end of the season unscrew the box and store the gravel in a 5 gallon bucket for next year.
So lovely and magical! I just stumbled on to your channel a few weeks ago. I am a teacher here in Nevada and I am on summer break so it is perfect timing! I love all things cottage garden and shabby chic. You inspire me! I am working on building an arbor with branches left over from my big tree in the front and lots of gardening. You know, I just love watching you tackling jobs around your house and garden. Nothing seems to phase you at all, struggling with the parasol puts me in mind of myself...I'm a little person too, but a lot older than you. I have a friend who is Irish and she can do anything she sets her mind to. She's laid two patios, she had to barrow a ton of stuff from the front of the house to the back, but by golly she did it!! Must be something good in the Irish water!! She's an inspiration, just like you!! Well done lass!!

It's true you never finish a garden, it's a lifetime project. Beautiful! Such a fun little garden.
FYI be careful of moving the fire pit to the grass…even with legs. The heat from the bowl of the fire pit can scorch the grass leaving you with a nice brown circle. We learned the hard way 🫤

I think that is an interesting comment-‘finished’? Well, in life, in gardening, and also in parenting btw, one isn’t EVER finished! Your garden is lovely, I had an umbrella (I actually prefer to call it a parasol because it is a beautiful word 😊) like yours at one time and it served me well for many years. I live in a two up two down townhome with a small deck and a flower bed. In my space I no longer need such a large parasol so my current one fits through the hole in my garden table. I love that it is called a parasol vs an umbrella like we call it here in New England. We call small umbrellas that are carried for sun shade parasols.

Hope you are feeling better soon. Have you noticed if your potato flowers are scented? We have self-seeded ones with beautiful lilac colour flowers and they smell delicious. Also, we have Rosemary Beetles on the lavender. No natural deterrent, so my son is going to seek and destroy them to protect their lava from eating the roots, as his beloved bees get so much pleasure from the lavender. Your garden just keeps on looking lovelier. X

I always braided my bulbs waited then cut them down. The nutrients go back to the bulb and make better flowers next year. I did cover them instead of knotting.

When you said parasol I burst out laughing. I live in Florida we call that an outdoor umbrella. A parasol is what Audrey Hepburn was carrying in the race scene in My Fair Lady. Love the differences in word meaning.
I too have self seeded sunflowers. I can’t wait to see what they look like because the foliage is a purple color. How fun to have flowers without doing any work at all.

Oh I wish we had a quarter of the green that you have there. We have already dried out for the summer. The only thing growing now it’s what is in the flower pots and we had a heck of a storm roll through yesterday. High winds, occasional rain, lighting and thunder. A fire no the mountain to the north west of us, good thing the furor crew caught fast. Then in the afternoon the sky cleared, then it got hot! The coolness of your garden is sooo refreshing.
