At 63 years old with no remodeling experience I remodeled a little cottage style house watching UA-cam tutorials. I put up drywall, trim , refinished the floors ,cut out a small doorway, installed a door all on my own. It gave me confidence in myself . The word 'can't ' was not in my vocabulary. After the house was finished I worked on the garden making concrete statues . I learned this from watching UA-cam. I'm so happy you as a young woman can inspire other young people to just go for it ! If I was a young woman again I'd definitely move to Sweden ! What a beautiful country !

❤ GET a German Sheperd! It will become your best friend! In fact it would give up his life to protect yours! Will warn you if someone is coming, and no need to tie up! It will stay with you! Your parents will also rest easy knowing you have it for protection! ❤

How nice of you to tell such an interesting story. I would have never guessed how polar opposite your life was a short time ago. I think your cabin will be very bright and airy, especially during the summer. I am very much looking forward to your upcoming videos as the season turns. Hope all is going well for you!

I don't know how 'old' you are but l am 58 and last year l, for the first time in my life, took everything out a large caravan (12 mtr x 3.65 mtr) and converted it into a -as l call it- beach house. Isolated it, made it waterproof again. Tiled for the first time in my life (thanks to You Tube!) Put in timber floors, timber walls. Took out the horrible bathroom and turned it into a New York loft style bathroom. Put a woodstove in. Made a natural English cottage style garden around it made for bees and other insects.
And my next project will be building my own cobhouse.
So l think as long as you are healthy there is no excuse of taking totally new turns in life. Just as l gave up my life in Holland and l am now traveling with my car with a rooftent to find my plot... exchange my motorbike for a horse and start living life in first gear....! And l just love how so many people step out of the fearbased ratrace and starting to discover what life is all about! It's one big blessing meeting so much very interesting people out here!
So just jump and see how the path unrolls for you!
@Roaming Wild Rosie super dat je je hart volgt! Je bent een voorbeeld voor velen die niet durven te springen! 👌🏼👌🏼🎊🎉

It’s nice to hear someone talk similar to how I talk. I mean re living a life defined by yourself and not being in auto pilot, and making things happen in a way that doesn’t necessarily fit the common mold. I find myself living alongside people in a parallel, where they are living a very suburban replicated life. I don’t live like that, but not many people do. So it’s refreshing to find people that talk like you. I recognise the freedom. It’s really very inspiring and encouraging. For the duration of your vids, I feel I can stop swimming against the current and watch someone who speaks a similar lifestyle language. Thanks for that. I have a way to go to get where I want to, but the daily journey is awesome. Right, enough waffle, thx for this very cool vid, over and out.

Cats are almost a must when living in old country houses, to control the mice that come in. A cat that can go in and out as it pleases is also a free cat. Not the best animal to travel with, though.

Absolutely love your attitude. Fellow introvert here, I feel the same about loving the change and following what feels right at the time, beside the hermit mode. Actually, what I couldn't bear, would be the way most people live - the routine and stability, every day the same and plans for whole life. And what you said about fear and dealing with it, it's amazing and so inspiring.

It may not feel like your brave, but you are very brave to live on your own and listen to your own voice and get on with life! Most people cannot imagine doing anything on their own! A few years ago, I did much the same sort of thing moving from Texas to London, loved every moment! Back in Texas now living rural. I feel a lot like you do, I've seen enough people for a bit!

Lovely content. Thanks for sharing your thought process as to how you got to where you are. You seem quite adventurous and I foresee many exciting situations for you in your future. The bunnies are adorable. Where I live, there are many wild cottontail rabbits and they really are precious. But I, like you, prefer to observe animals in their natural habitats. Since we humans have domesticated many kinds of animals, I do feel we have an obligation to care for and protect them and treat them with the utmost respect and kindness because we have disabled them from being able to survive on their own. Be well. 🌿

I really enjoyed watching this video, the 2nd one. Really good to hear more of your personal 0story. I admire your gutsy-ness to follow through your inspiration of how to live your life and the skill you have to make your little place a beautiful tasteful place. Inspirational. I can also see that professionally you could fill a hole in the market if that's something t000hat would attract you. To create interior designs for example for do-it-yourself people and/or0 on a low budget. I also love the wild spaces and have been to Sweden and Norway in the past. (heb je overwogen om onder de video een 'thank you button' the plaatsen? Zoals vele anderen dat doen? Dat geeft viewers de mogelijkheid hun waardering voor de video te tonen en voor wat je doet. Het maken van deze video is een hoop werk!)

Very inspiring. I am currently considering to move to Sweden after a disastrous move to Ireland. Wondering how far up north and extreme I am willing to go. But would definitely want to build my own cabin/house as opposed to renovating one, but I guess it would be easier, legal wise to buy a plot of land with at least some kind of building on it. Definitely digging your channel and videos. Thank you. 🙏

I am completely fascinated by your life; I think it's wonderful that you know you can live alone in a strange place and be happy there. You hiked all over Europe and that is how you lived so it's part of your existence. I do like your little cottage, cabin! you live alone, but having a dog? they are wonderful companions, and they will be there with you through everything. I found that out when my teenagers went to live with their dad during covid, i was completely alone during covid. He became so important to me, bunnies, yes, you could get some for the yard. They are lovely too; I am a new subscriber because I understand why you moved to a remote area. Completely.

So I had CCTV installed as it was necessary because things around my home started going missing , I like you I am independent I really admire you because you work so hard and the work so far is stunning and beautiful ❤ but we cannot all be the same in life

I am totally with you on domestic pets ....having lived in South Africa with wild animals in the bush and dogs running around in big gardens outside, cats climbing trees & killing birds/mice (natural instincts) I get so sad to think of animals inside apartments.
I also moved to Sweden & live up north a bit (Umeå) where the weather gets cold (-10⁰C to -25⁰C is a winter range of temps), I see people walking their dogs on the icy ground and tying them up outside the supermarket to wait with their little bodies on this freezing ice whilst their owners are inside for 20-40 minutes.... I am horrified by that.
Love that you have found such a peaceful place.
Sending love & strength for your awesome journey to renovate & live in this idyllic spot you have chosen.
You are coping well because of yr big city & hiking experiences on your own. The psychological fortitude for that is immense.

Swedish taxes are stupid high and thar was one of the reasons that made me leave. However, a red "stuga" in the woods (how are you coping with the mosquitos?) is a lovely thing. Many "Sommer stugor" are built to be used during the summer months only. They are rather cold in the winter ❄️ best get that fireplace fixed 🙂

You are telling a lot of people good advise about not being afraid. Too many people live by their fears. And that keeps the fear alive. When you say the words, you have fed the fear and given it more strength.

This is your best video yet! It's so nice to get the back story. I will just ask (again), to set up some sort of donation system...just something like Paypal me for now and maybe Patreon later. I know people want to support you...me and my husband do! I've built two houses and we've renovated seven. While building new is great, and you can design everything the way you want, renovating (in my experience) has been more satisfying. It takes more creative initiative to take something from chaotic disfuntion, ugly or damaged to something nice and functional. This cabin was in an extreme state of disrepair, so your challenges have been great. You've taken on what will probably be your hardest renovation ever, and you've do this first! But building something funky and unique would be so much fun too! You are most inspiring! 🙏💪🐰And your rabbit experience was so sweet!

You should be able to fit in nicely here in Sweden. Less than 2 minutes in I hear you say: "...coffee first". ;)
The outlook on getting a pet of sorts could be easy. Most parts of Sweden you'll be able to find bunnies or hares, and my guess is that one of the two are not far away from where you live. Deers could also be in the vicinity, or possibly squirrels. The birds you already have there in abundance, and they are always a nice company. Looking forward to seeing upcoming videos and progress from your neck of the woods.

Loving your videos. I watched all of them yesterday. I consider myself a roothless person. I have lived in many countries but couple months ago I bought a small land with a wooden cabin inside a French forest, no electricity nor bathroom inside the house. The bathroom structure is similar to yours. Its not my final destination yet. I dream about Alaska since I was 13 and I cant explain why (I was born and raised in a tropical country and dont particular love the cold). But while I dont get in Alaska I am excited to start the renovation at the french cabin at the end of the month. Keep the good work. Your little house is adorable. You should be proud of yourself. I saw you commenting about making some income. As an illustrator myself I got delighted seeing your drawings. Did you thought about selling digital copies of them (to make it simple for you as printing might be a little more complicated for you due logistics). I am sure we would love to have something designed by you hanging in our walls. Cant wait for your next videos. Much love from a brazilian lady living in France.

Some people have such horrible experiences with people. So, being alone, vulnerable is a fear people have, especially women. Me for example have the experience being alone was a nightmare. Allways meeting someone who want to hurt or damage me. I could not walk on the streets, work, walk outside, be anyware without someone bothering me and mind its business. Allways on the run.
Some do not attract predators. Some attract predators.
    So be safe.

Hello. My first view of your world. Bless your independence. Rabbits are impractical as pets where you live. I once built a beautiful cage to house 2 rabbits 3 feet off the ground in the backyard of the house I rented. After a month, they were both living free inside the house, with 2 sheepdogs. They pooped so much in one room it became theirs. Great joy. Hated letting them go. Your renovations are pathetic. Your work is good. Your timeframe is not. No hurry. Yes the wilderness gets boring, seeing the same landscape year after year. Always remember the idiots in society. God's nature provides all you need. Thanks for your video. The directing and editing looks like your skill.

Rosie, I agree with how you feel about domesticating animals, ask any vegan and they'll totally agree with you. The problem as I see it, is that we have domesticated and bred animals to the ridiculous. And there are so many homeless animals needing forever homes because they can't make it on their own anymore. Some one has to take care of them and it might as well be animal lovers, even though it goes "against the grain", so to speak. I have only just discovered your channel and I'm so intrigued by your courage and determination to do all these things on your own. I think you're an inspiration to young and old people everywhere to realise that they don't need a lot of stuff to be fulfilled and happy. Nor does everything have to be perfect, which is my downfall. Looking forward to continuing my binge watching. Take care and be safe.

I would recommend that you simply test the wood stove and the stove. If I were you, I would go up to the roof and inspect the chimney for cracks and bird nests. You can fix the cracks yourself with "mortar" Be prepared that when you first fire in them, it will surely smoke in🙂.

    • @vicsillnorth7970
      @vicsillnorth7970 2 роки тому

It would be really dangerous to do that without the right equipment and knowledge. It needs to be inspected by an authorised ”chimney inspector” (don’t know the right word for this). Not being careful enough could end up in a burnt down house.

    • @wildrosie
      @wildrosie  2 роки тому

Unfortunately this is not the one you could try and test... The chimney is actually falling apart - it would 100% be dangerous!!

    • @HP3.14
      @HP3.14 2 роки тому

I repaired my chimney myself before the "chimney sweeper=sotarn” came and inspected the chimney. My chimney had frost cracks and loose mortar. The first time you are up on the roof you are scared but after the third time you get used to it. Sweden was once a "do it yourself" country but no longer.

I totally agree with your views on pets. It just feels wrong to own another individual. I've always felt it's nicer to just get become friends with wild animals. That way I know they are with me by their own free will. Not because I force them to. I have befriended hares a few times. But I've realised it's best not to do that. They would get to comfortable around my cabin and let their guard down and become pray to predators unfortunately. But a wouldn't mind getting to know a lynx in the future maybe. :-)

I was an only child and we moved a lot while I was in school. I attended 3 different schools in one 9 month school year due to my Father accepting various promotions. I quickly learned being a loner did make the constant moves less of a challenge. My 50+ year career as a flight attendant with a US legacy based airline reaffirmed just how much I cherish solitude. The lock down did not impact me as much socially as it did others. Since retirement (related to the Pandemic), I now actually have to force myself to go beyond the mailbox at the end of the driveway. If I were younger and didn't have a major health issue I would definitely consider a similar lifestyle - just in a warmer climate. (I do not have any family so no real ties.) I admire your focus, spunk and outlook on life. You are a determined, independent, fierce warrior! Your channel is a true treat. (Re pets, maybe you could have a 'country cat' - as a reward for being your official Mouser you could feed it and it to exist on your property. It could live inside or outsie, as it wishes, so it's freedom is real. I have a friend that is allergic to cats but has a few that live on her property. She runs a small animal rescue so keeping mice from the feed is paramount.)

So you think dogs and cats should be wild and free? That's a weird idea. Dogs need affection and love and they reciprocate. I enjoy your videos but it's strange to want to be so alone with no contact. At present I have 4 rescue dogs that nobody wanted in fact I haven't purchased a dog in 50 yrs. There are so many animals desperate for a loving home. 😢

I was twenty-two when my husband bought me a sledgehammer and a house in London to use it on. I loved that renovation (with builders) so much that we sold that house as soon as it was complete and bought an old fort in Provence while we renovated office buildings in Soho, travelling backwards and forwards.
Several houses later we ended up in an old duck-hunting cabin on San Francisco Bay. I renovated most of it myself, my husband was not at all hands-on, but he was always encouraging, even when he woke one morning to find my foot coming through the ceiling; I had decided to expose the vaulting.
I have lived here since 2002 and transformed it, reconfiguring the flow, and removing hideous popcorn ceilings, textured walls and condo carpets. I fell in love with the scope of a wood-framed house, so much easier to work with than brick! I ripped down CDX into planks for the simple look I wanted, restored the 1946 kitchen cabinets, created a new entrance with a hall for more privacy, and created a garden by terracing down to the water and hauling soil and manure in my trusty pickup. Every single thing in this house, including driftwood furniture I made when I had no budget at all, has felt the touch of my hand.
Those years of hard physical labour have taken their toll and at seventy-six I reluctantly confine myself to smaller carpentry, but I wouldn't for anything change the excitement, challenge and satisfaction of using ingenuity and a sense of possibility to create my own home. It is indescribably touching to me to read of young women like you adventuring and creating on your own terms. Strength to you!

I made the move to Northern Finland…..I can relate so much to your reasons for moving, it was similar for me. The feeling of freedom here to just go and walk in the forest, amongst the giant rocks left littered about the land by the glaciers. The midnight sun and how calm the lake is when you’re rowing gently at night yet you need sunglasses! Hard to explain the beauty of exploration when you just wander and come across things like crystal clear pools and waterfalls. It’s the right move….the one that made sense of my longing to feel free.

And pets do have a purpose - my horses and dogs are keeping me sane. They are my family. But one has a great responsibility and cost, which limits the freedom of traveling lightly. That's why I have not moved to Sweden or France this year, but am buying a house only 50 km from my current city in Germany. Having an old horse an two senior dogs effects life choices very much.

I am a 65 year old woman and the last 3 summers I have been camping on my land alone after retiring (the c19 pushed me to make that decision). I have also been asked if I was afraid to be there alone and I actually feel safer there than when I lived near Mpls MN. That first summer I only used a hand pump for water. You are so correct regarding the fear that has been instilled in society. It is actually amazing what we can all do and the help/info available from the internet.

It's so funny, there are so many parallels between our experiences, but mine's more your journey but lite 😂 I always longed to live in a big city, preferably New York, and was fascinated with the sense of anonymity one can have in a place surrounded by so many lives. I didn't leave the country I was born in, Germany, but moved to it's capital and went to uni there. I still love it to this day, but after five years I craved something different. After hiking in the dolomites and crossing the Alps by bike I realized that it's exactly the beautiful, absolute solitude and calmness nature can give me which I hungered for in Berlin. Since I'm not yet finished with my studies and, as always, broke, I moved back in with my parents and renovated an 11sqm cabin on their property where I currently live. It is not very adventurous, not very glamorous but I hope to some time be able to follow a similar path to you and find a small cabin somewhere up north. Until then I'll just have to live my dream vicariously through your videos!

I lived this type of life for over a decade, bought a small house in the middle of Sweden, both some land and forest included, many dreams and ideas, renovated a lot, beautiful summers, even better autumns with al its colors, vast winter landscapes during winter with ice crystals everywhere. I'm also introvert believing alone is best, but after a while I started to feel sad about not being able show and share this paradise like land I was living in. So last year I wrap everything up sold and moved back to town. Paradise lost!, town sucks as well, but now I start to think that beauty is inside your head, perhaps that was was meant by: Behold, the kingdom of God is sudden upon you.

I tried living in a town and sure all the sounds at night made me not feel alone, but i was still very much alone and the sounds at night and during the day started to bother me a great deal. Having a dog or pet at an apartment, not always possible. I started to feel like i was locked up in a bunker with no way out. No freedom whatsoever. Sure, you dont have to deal with a lot of things as u do with your own house on the countryside, but i feel less alone and more free. I wasnt supposed to live in a bunker. It wasn't my natural habitat and i can breathe now. I'm never alone, i have birds, animals , i have wifi , i have everything I need. I don't really need other humans to make me happy. I just need my space , nature and a house to sleep in at night. My blood pressure goes up everytime i have to go to the city. The noises and everything..but it also has to do with personality and how you were brought up. I dont ever feel a need to show off. I am a single woman who" built my house" from being a wreck to what it is now. I only need to make myself proud. There is no way of making a city girl out of me, i hate living in bunkers and share washing machines with others. Chickens strolling free, and growing your own food, that's true life.

Im always interested how people found Hiking and Long Distance Trail Hiking as a concept, because the majority of people is not aware that something like that exist. You see it Hiking Videos on famous Trails all the time, that the population who lives in that area or even right or close to the trail are not aware that such Hiking exist and that there even is a trail.
For me Hiking and especially Hiking as is practiced now on the PCT, AT, CDT and so on never had the chance to enter in my realm of mind. It was something total Alien to me something you see but do not grasp, similar to something like sailing and boat life. Where as a land person knowing nothing about boats, winds, knots and really having 0 experience in that "water world" you look at boats but never think could that be something for me because you never did or know anything remotely close to this and there are just no receptors in you for "boat life" to anchor in your brain.
Apart from thinking that the cost will not be in your range there is this learned paralysis of not even knowing where one would start with boat life. Especially in a pre UA-cam world. Now you can follow some boat life channels and really anything and collect information so quick of what it is and where one would start.
This was the case for me with hiking, of course i saw people hiking, but i always asked myself why are they not running, time always went by really slow for me, so hiking would have felt even more torturous in my mind and no chance that i would have tried it. I always associated backpacking with the kind of thing that is done in South East Asia, where you hop from one hostel to another and party, not much to do with real backpacking. And long distance hikes in my mind were always done by dropouts and more like hobo types of people. I even thought of the El Camino as a religious and spiritual thing to do. Also walking alone just felt really weird to me.
So it was a long journey for me to discover that there is hiking as it is done today by many people. It started for me with a coincidence too, stumbling on an Instagram post of someone i don't follow who hiked the PCT and posted a photo of himself where he had this very exhausted but satisfied look in his face that i recognized form sports and this was what anchored and opened the door to it, one which was never closed and kicked it.
