Hello lovely lady. I got a full head of dreads a week ago. I didn't do research before committing, not the first one. Watching your videos on crocheting and dread maintenance has put my mind at ease. Feeling more comfortable and confident from your shared dread knowledge. I will be getting urgent maintenance tomorrow. From then on I will be using the oils you prescribed in this video (Not coconut oil, as I found out the hard way haha). Using your palm rolling technique and frequent crochet practise. Should be a pro in no time. Love your videos, you are super bubbly and charismatic. Charming personality. I will stay tuned. I sincerely thank you for your time.
"Liiike thisandthisandthisandthisandthis!" I don't know why, but that made me giggle! Jealous of your hair and your energy! I just wanna bottle you up and take you with me everywhere to keep me happy and upbeat!
I'm 16 and I've wanted dreads since I was 11. My hair is to like my shoulders and its brown. I'm super inspired by your hair, I'm going to dye it pink or use the conditioner you used then I'm going to put my hair in dreads. I'll be sure to buy your kit and use your tips for care. I'm extremely excited about this
FINALLY, someone with ACTUAL, BEAUTIFUL dreadlocks. Everyone else has knotty and tangled dreadlocks. Yours are SO pretty, they are thin and there is a lot of them. Your roots aren't weak, which is KEY. Love this video, you slay dreadlocks!
I shaved my head but I am growing it out to the length I want. I am saving your videos and getting the materials to take care of the dreadlocks, and then start my locks!!! I've been indulging in so many videos so many things about dreadlocks, the persuasions and I feel mature enough to start mine once my hair grows!! Love this video.
I can not thank you enough for your videos!! im in month 2 of my journey and added extensions a few days ago and i cant be happier! thank you for your beautiful videos and beautiful vibes!
I use Dr Bronners DILUTED with water (about 1 part Dr B to 10 parts water - super watery) and I use a squeeze ketchup bottle to get it on the scalp for a regular washing. For a deep cleanse, I like to make an ACV, lemon juice and baking soda mixture with water in a bowl and soak for a while then rinse. It’s magical! (The proof will be in the bowl - pretty gnarly). Happy Dread journey indeed. (I’m on my 3rd set and have learned a lot about having thin, straight, white girl dreads).
I was crochet-maintaining my 4 yo dreads as I was watching you video, and.. holy wow!!!!! I'll finish watching your video, but- and I've been SEARCHING self-maintanance videos for *years* and never saw anything that actually helped! Your hand-rolling technique right around the 6min mark literally just took everything I'd just spent the last 15min trying to crochet, and LEGIT took care of it in 3 seconds!!! I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH Btw I just realized my 9yo daughter changed my profile pic lol
Rough transcript / my notes: On the daily: FIRST: Shower in a bottle: distilled water (keep from mildew), essential oils - lavender (moisturizing), rosemary, tea tree (antifungal, helps with itchy scalp), eucalyptus, lime (revitalizing), peppermint SECOND: Oil - same mixture, except, instead of distilled water, it’s apricot / almond / vit E / olive / avocado oil (whichever is best) DON’T use sesame or coconut oil. Can moisturize dreads but also use on scalo specifically, esp when dreads are new or freshly tightened. Helps with dandruff and itchiness. Occasionally: If have bad dandruff itch problem, use head and shoulders with tea tree added will help, soaked on scalp for a bit and rinsed - but not on dreadlocks themselves cuz of residue. Do not use wax ever. Palm rolling - can help with frizzies. Washing dreads, once every couple weeks. More you wash, looser they get. But when you dry after washing, they tighten up. Try not to wash when you are able not to. Uses dr bronners with lavender when washes hair but she’s looking for conditioning shampoo. Lush? Daddio is purple. Don’t let dreads stay wet. Thicker = longer time to dry. Can get mildew. No bun or braid while wet. Deep cleansing wash if you did get skunk sprayed or something. Use soak of raw apple cider vinegar (ew stinky) but feel soft afterward. No conditioner. Maintenance: Month after get dreads, 6 months after that, once a year after that. Turn roots into dreadlocks via backcombing loose hair and using crochet hook. Trial and error to make the roots dreads the same diameter as rest of dreads. After maintenance will be achy and tender or itchy for a couple days.
So if you go swimming say in a river or pool, what if you can’t dry your dreads for a long time? What do I do to make them not mildew? I want dreads in the summer but I want to know as much as possible to keep them clean and stuff before I get them💚
You can’t leave them wet for long periods.. period. They will mildew. Either keep them up when you swim or make sure you can dry them all or almost all the way before sleeping.
I have appointment in march since I cut my hair few months ago and I have pixie now - can't wait to have dreads already! Your video is so helpful - there's not mutch info on how to take care of dreads on yt
I’ve never seen palm rolling like that. I really enjoyed this. I’m going to be starting some on my friend for her so I’m really excited I watched this! ❤️❤️
I'm a fiber artist in Humboldt. When I wash wool or felt wool, I have to hang it up to dry and throughout the day spinning it. The amount of time acceptable for them to be wet is two days. I learned that a really gross way one evening. Random comment lol.
I'm slowly getting my hair into dreads. Doing a couple every few days just so I can ease into it. Is there any tips for that? I loved how informative this video is and adore your energy
thank you .. super high brownie points for actually explaining everything fully and intelligently.. it's nice not to hunt a topic and end up searching trying to find a complete answer. ☕🍰
I agree with all your fans, your are both super clear on all of it and also a joy to watch. Really appreciate your sAys it from real perspective never too blow hard not fairy princess . I’ve ewanted to have fat dreads and braids and all that for 40 years am 63 in January and st the 10 year place where I do some wise Why not and rockbit till it’s got to be cut again to my ears . I do have a question. Are these going to feel at ALL like those synthetic dreads do? No way I can deal with with that. Have felt the rookies and they are soft and if I do this I think a mix of full on dreads some with free loose ends and that same idea with what I’d like in a variety of braids and knots. Q2) Can I start out from my virgin thick strands and a lot of them by adding extentions and like crochet those on? If I care for and do use extentions will they last for as long as I want them to or more of a temp thing
You should try the superdread shampoo bar. It's residue free but full of essential oils so it doesn't feel drying at all. It feels like a conditioner. It's my favorite!
i have dyed hair that’s green currently and i’m also starting my dread journey for my second time! my first time was just started naturally because i have curly hair and i never (oops) brush my hair and i didn’t use conditioner at the time (double oops). now that i have longer and healthier hair i’m starting out with scattered dreads and having my naturally curly hair down as well (if that makes sense). I’m so lucky to have found these videos this time and to be able to know exactly what i need and how to take care of them! i currently have one little dread and his name is Philip, i named him because i felt bad that he was all alone 😅. anyway, thank you for the amazing content and being well educated on what you’re discussing!
I use oils anyway for other things but never thought to use them on my 6 month old dreads. GREAT IDEA. I have fractionated coconut oil because it is so not greasy . That would be great for the scalp...but how many drops in total do you use in what quantity_ Your video is great...first time I thought to check on UA-cam too...need to tidy them up and your explanation and really fun attitude was just the perfect way to sit watch, tidy and drink coffee in the morning. Thanks! I{m in Baja California Sur, Mexico, but will head up to San Diego and then LA in January....where would you be traveling from if I wanted dread help_
I'm starting my dreads this week. I was going to go to a salon once my disability kicked in, however they want $350 if your hair is 6 inches, and the longer it is, obviously the more costly. I figured it'd be more of an experience and better journey if I did them myself. So, therefore, sniffing around youtube watching different dread tips and how to's. You mentioned don't let them stay wet. Do you suggest towel drying and squeezing into the towel? Or maybe keeping the blow dryer handy? I'd really appreciate a response.
I have short dreads of my own and added dread extensions. I did synthetic but they’re still working well. But my scalp is sooooo itchy because it’s used to being brushed and watched very day. I just ordered your shower in a bottle and massage in a bottle. And I can’t wait for it to get here! I’ve also ordered dolly locs refreshening and tightening sprays because I did extensions. I love my dreads so far and I’m excited to see where they go! Thank you for this video. Super helpful
thank you so much! I've been considering dreads for a long while but I just chopped the back of my hair off so I'm gonna let it grow a few more inches before extentions. this is so helpful! I'm gonna check out yalls site! excited! can't wait
I know what you want to wash your dreads with. I am never with out it for YEARS! My hair is hugely thick and each strand is also thick Renpure Cleansing Conditioner is Awesome. It does not suds up at all but washes very well. Keep adding water as you do the product to move it. I don’t need to use any other product even as a horse hair girl. Suds in my thinking is abrasive breaking the cuticle some each wash & over time split ends unless you regularly trim. I also never brush it but with my fingers when I wash…an average of 3x a month though I do rinse it lots in Summer for sure
Vinegar is a very effective anti fungal for dandruff for those who may not have essential oils in. Any vinegar will do. Just cheap white vinegar is cool although many people like to use acv if they have it.
I’m growing my hair atm to make some nice dreads, most useful video i’ve seen yet... there is only 1 thing you didnt mention, how much essential oil should i mix into how much distilled water/ carrier oil? Thanks!
Hi I just got finished watching your dread care video. Do you have the mesurements for the homemade spray for the dreads. I purchased all the oils mentioned. Please n ty. I cant wait to dread my hair!
I saw this on the Tribe ❤️❤️❤️ my dreads are almost 2 months old. And I never knew about using oil for itchy scalp. Thank you for the advice! Love and Light Sistar
you are so cute! I'm in my early 40s & (naturally) silver-streaked; after watching some of your vids I think I'm finally ready to lock it up. love your EO concoctions & natural approach! subbed 😙
Head and shoulders isn't an anti fungal dont use it if you want to get rid of dandruff, it coats the scalp so it looks like it is gone but it is sealed in to your head causing it to only get worse and spread
I have watched so many videos trying to figure out how to do stuff with my Caucasian dreads thanks for actually getting to the point and not trying to make a UA-cam career out of it LOL
4 to 6 drops of every essential oils , specially lavender, rosemary and tea tree in 75 ml spray bottle filled with 60 ml of distilled water . Thanks in advance 😊😊
my extensions are 100% hair and we paid a bit for them but they smell like barbie doll hair. my friend and I have been doinf them for over a month and half because of our conflicting schedules but i think were doing pretty good. im learning so i can maintain hers.
Im 60 this year n doing free form. Slowly getting there with dreadlock shampoo. For some reason i get 2 large clumpy ones on one side of my head n not on the other.
I’ve heard mixed things about washing with dr bronners. Simply because it is so concentrated and can cause buildup. Especially with how it does on the bottle
Wow I never knew you could put oil on your hair everyday with your texture. I would think it would way your hair down. You learn something new everyday. Good video.
Very helpful video, we made the oil and the water spritz today and applied to our dreads, ah-mazing!! They feel so soft clean and fresh now! Thank you!
I've been seriously considering dreads, but my mother thinks they won't be good because they'll get "gross and moldy" but after watching this I'm pretty set on doing dreads, at least for a little while. is there a way to make dreads easier to brush out if I don't want them permanent
I want to try out dreads but my hair is a tiny bit too short? It's almost to my shoulders but no quite? I only want to try 2-3 dreads? What should I do? Because I REALLY want to try dreads? But what should I do about washing my dreaded hair and my non-dreaded hair??? Please try and answer this if you can?
I have partial ddreadlocks (5 underneath the rest of my flowing hair) I separate them in the shower. I'll condition my flowing hair once every few days, and just move my dreads to the opposite side and be careful not to put them directly in the water flow. Then once every week or two I will wash my entire scalp with Dr bronners, and I'll wash each of my dreads with it too. Just make sure you use a towel and squeeze all the water out
My dreads are a month old and every so how one has 2 to 3 maybe more loops. You'd are so straight and rope like! Do you crochet the loops in or did you just not get any loops?
Can you blow dry dreads? I don't know if this is a stupid question but I am wanting dreads and I'm new to it and I love researching things before going through.
How are you getting on?? I'm finding out as much as I can.. Really need to do something with my hair.. it's long and wavy I'd love dreads, I just don't want to loose too much length.. or look like crazy cat lady for a year! Ooh I wish she was in England! She knows her Dreads eh xx
I have an issue.. I have synth dread extensions. I also work as a cannabis trimmer😁. The smell is overwhelming overwhelming. I have to shampoo my hair everyday. I know this isn’t appropriate for dreads but idk what else to do. Is there a suggestion to help eliminate the smell or to prevent it? Some days are far worse then others depending on the strain.
So I need some advice I'm 17 puerto rican male with long hair I been growing my hair since middle school (in high school now ) my hair gets really curly. I always tied my hair up in a small bun. never really do anything with it and my friends say I should get some derds and I'm sorta taking an interest on trying this hair style but I never done anything with my hair
Where do you get your oils. I've heard that not all oils are made equally so just wanted to know if you had any suggestion there? Thank you, your awesome I love your videos they explain a lot!
You are my favorite dread lady on the tube! Last week I followed through with your twist and tear method mixed with some back combing, and I am really trying to get the crocheting down but am having troubleI also used bee's wax...did I already fuck them up? Should I try to wash them to get the wax out or just keep going and not add anymore??? Or do something else? I hope you get this... thank you for your videos
Hi Flora, I have dreadhawk and extensions to bring thickness and length. The extension is grey and black and now I would like to bleach the ends but not sure if it will get bleached... Also I want dreads to the sides and now growing my hair but not sure how long my hair needs to be since I need extensions to them?
I love your videos!!! I have always wanted dreads but was too nervous to try. Now that I'm educated on the journey-I'm doing a gradual dread head- I have about 15 now. Keep the videos coming and much love!!!! If you ever want to travel out to Syracuse, NY- I'd love you to finish my dreads!! Much love and keep the videos coming!!
I've had partial dreads for a year now and I've never crocheted them because I just cannot figure out how to use it!! I've watched videos but it doesn't make sense to me 😭
can you use tea tree shampoo, like the one you buy at sallys? I only have one right now thats almost a week old. im just seeing if I like it or not. might do more in the future if I like taking care of it.
best dreadlock tutorial videos ever ❤️ make my hair dreadlocks with your videos, thank you 😊 i like your energy sooo much. please, please, please make a maintance video for the growing root hairs.
Natural shampoo recipe that I've used for about two years now that doesn't cause build up. It's great for silky, shiny hair, and for hair growth. I love it! I double or triple the recipe so it lasts longer. I'm lazy like that. 😁

Queensavage999 XD thank you! 💞
Wired And Stoned OMG your welcome! Thank you so much for replying!!!
I agree
They’re knotty and tangled because they’re natural freeform locks, not man made and poserish. I wouldn’t have mine any other way.
@@ina1815 thank you!

You should try the superdread shampoo bar. It's residue free but full of essential oils so it doesn't feel drying at all. It feels like a conditioner. It's my favorite!
omg your dreads look so pretty now!! i mean they always have but wow ** heart eyes**
Thank you! Yes they have matured A LOT and I'm feeling real good about them now! ^_^

I have watched so many videos trying to figure out how to do stuff with my Caucasian dreads thanks for actually getting to the point and not trying to make a UA-cam career out of it LOL
I'm doing all my research before getting dreads. Your video was so helpful!!
Would you guys ever do a question and answer video? Or a video about how you started doing what you do?
yep! planning on it !
Have you seen our first Q & A video? What other questions you got? :)
Love this! Did you ever mention how much oil-to-water ratio in that spray? Or did I miss it??
I definitely subscribed I live in north Ga . I wish to have dread locks. I like your charisma and quick wittiness .
When making a spray, how do you decide how much of each drops do you use?
4 to 6 drops of every essential oils , specially lavender, rosemary and tea tree in 75 ml spray bottle filled with 60 ml of distilled water .
Thanks in advance 😊😊
What about the mixture with oil?
do you have videos about different hairstyles for dreadlocks
Funny you should ask! That's what we're working on now!
+Wired And Stoned well, I will be waiting!
Dr. Locs has worked the best for me so far 💕
What’s the best way to dry them? Or like how do you dry quickly?
my extensions are 100% hair and we paid a bit for them but they smell like barbie doll hair. my friend and I have been doinf them for over a month and half because of our conflicting schedules but i think were doing pretty good. im learning so i can maintain hers.
Im 60 this year n doing free form. Slowly getting there with dreadlock shampoo. For some reason i get 2 large clumpy ones on one side of my head n not on the other.
Dude I have not seen anybody else palm roll like that! GAME CHANGER! Thank you
I’ve heard mixed things about washing with dr bronners. Simply because it is so concentrated and can cause buildup. Especially with how it does on the bottle
Apple Cider Vinegar and water 50/50 is moisturizing and you won't get fungus plus helps w itchiness as well .
Ah this channel makes me happy inside and out ^.^
Wow I never knew you could put oil on your hair
everyday with your texture.
I would think it would way your hair down.
You learn something new everyday.
Good video.
Highly recommend the DoTerra Shampoo & Conditioner... Loaded with essential oils -- but I even add more rosemary
Hopefully this question gets answered. What are your ratios for oil:water? Also, can you just mix your carrier oil with your ‘daily shower’ oil?
Does adding oils on the scalp mean that you have to use the crochet method on the roots instead of just letting the roots knot themselves?
Rosewater homemade has been amazing too!
I don't know which is more beautiful, your personality or your locks. Wonderful video!
Do you think rose water with maybe tea tree as a dread or scalp spray would be okay? I love the daddio tint on your dreads 🥰.
I used coconut and my dreads where a focking mess after a few months
soooo i dont use that any more
Thank you so much for this video, I’m planing on getting some dreads in my hair. And it’s gonna be my first time
Very helpful video, we made the oil and the water spritz today and applied to our dreads, ah-mazing!! They feel so soft clean and fresh now! Thank you!
How did you part them? I did my own and after looking at yours I'm not sure i did enough. Your hair is my goal
Love your energy! I am definitely making dreadz on my hair and I am super excited! This video was very informative and helpful.
I've been seriously considering dreads, but my mother thinks they won't be good because they'll get "gross and moldy" but after watching this I'm pretty set on doing dreads, at least for a little while. is there a way to make dreads easier to brush out if I don't want them permanent
permanent?**
Not really, just follow how we made them in our video How To Make Dreadlocks! Glad this video helped!! :)
thank you so much, I think I convinced her
I want to try out dreads but my hair is a tiny bit too short? It's almost to my shoulders but no quite? I only want to try 2-3 dreads? What should I do? Because I REALLY want to try dreads? But what should I do about washing my dreaded hair and my non-dreaded hair??? Please try and answer this if you can?
Haley Mays start with a couple! 😊
Wired And Stoned Omg thank you so much!!!
Love love love this seems the best care video for dreads I've seen. I definitely have decided I am gonna try dreads out. Thank you so muchhhh
How are you getting on?? I'm finding out as much as I can.. Really need to do something with my hair.. it's long and wavy I'd love dreads, I just don't want to loose too much length.. or look like crazy cat lady for a year! Ooh I wish she was in England! She knows her Dreads eh xx
Wondering the mixture of oils with water? How many drops with how much water? Please ❤️😳✌🏻
Thank you so much!! One month in and as soon as I tried your palm rolling technique is was like…aaaahhhhhh… yes. ❤
Where can I get earrings like yours? They're amazing and your dreads are beautiful!!!
I love your earrings in this video! Where did you buy them or what brand are they? Thanks.

I've got synths (cause I'm indecisive and want coloured hair haha) but this has been so useful especially the oils that they you reccomened!
I've had partial dreads for a year now and I've never crocheted them because I just cannot figure out how to use it!! I've watched videos but it doesn't make sense to me 😭
I'll make a video making it real easy to understand!
+Wired And Stoned awesome 😉
You could definitely try palm rolling!
we made a detailed video about the crochet method, check it out!
I'm not trying to be funny, but on straight hair (even loced) would you need oil? I'm thinking that would make the hair look greasier on the scalp????
I have a hard time crocheting my own locks and I have about an inch of hair that is not dreaded at my scalp. I'm frustrated, help!
Those care tips are they good for my synthetic faux locs extensions ? :) thank you
I got mine 9 years ago when I was on the road I went to a rainbow gathering and had them ever since
what kind of anti fungal do you like to use for your oil? is there any brand you can recommend?
can you use tea tree shampoo, like the one you buy at sallys? I only have one right now thats almost a week old. im just seeing if I like it or not. might do more in the future if I like taking care of it.
