Dreads don’t have an ugly stage. They are like art that changes daily. They are unique on every individual and I feel so sexy since I started my journey, 7 months in and going strong.
guess everyone got their opinions but i would definetly say they have an ugly phase, my dreads where looking horrible for a while and nothing like i wanted them to look. Some would say "no thats the maturing phase". Well, i think they looked horrible in their maturing phase. Im just talking about my dreads, not calling anyones dreads ugly.
I'm seriously considering starting on my loc journey. I'm 50 years old though. I have already heard I'm too old but I don't feel my age and I've always loved them. I will probably do it!!
Because the loc journey teaches us to love ourselves in the rawest form... Can't hide behind pretty/manicured hair while getting through the really stages of locking lol
You're welcome!!! And it is fun to look at the growth over the years! I also have a Loc journey on my channel. You can check it out and sub if you want. Peace and Love!!
I really like the length you are at now. my locs are about 3.5 months and I have a love/hate for the shrinkage. on a side note, I love all the fun make up you do.
You are beautiful in all aspects of the word respectfully. I love your happiness you share. I soon am getting them done. Been wanting them for 15yrs now. I hope you and yours is well and give you my blessings of peace and love.
I love your dreadlocks :) they look beautiful! Im at that awkward stage of inbetween hairgrowing stage so hopefully start my journey the end of the year. But if my turn out half as good as yours Id be super chuffed 😊😊
I know you suggested to just leave them to do their own thing, but yours are so freaking gorgeous.....do/did you separate and palmroll and if so, how often?
Thank you for your perseverance....im doing my 3rd set in my 40s because like you I had no idea whatcha was doing....but watching your videos and others has helped what was the dread juice you mentioned??? Anyways thank you xxxx
I'm at a month and 4days an was wondering as far as straight caucasian hair, will the lose hairs eventually figure which dread they belong to an lock up?? I know there prob gonna be fuzzy forever because my hair type but I just want those loose hairs to lock into there intended dreadloc.. an im not too good with crocheting just yet..
I love your dreads!!! I was wondering if you have any tips for how to redye your dreadlocks without frying your hair? When i didnt have dreadlocks i would deep condition after but I know conditioner isn't good for dreadlocks as it can cause them to fall out
Hey! I really love your dreads! I've been seriously considering doing dreads for a while now and I really would like to do them but I know there is a lot of commitment involved with maintaining them and also if you want to get rid of them, I think most people say you have to cut them off. But I've also seen that some people brush theirs out so is it a different way of putting the dreads in that makes you have to cut them off? Sorry for asking so many questions and rambling on, your dreads look great and I loved the video!
I had a set in my twenties that i had for a year or two before brushing out - it took a good few hours to comb them all out with a friends help, but it is possible!
The One That Rose you can comb out any type of dreads. most people are lazy though, as it takes several hours or more, depending on how long they are and how long you have had them. it is possible though
Hey holly question you possibly help me with is I've had my dreads over year and half now and getting ready to crochet real hair dreaded exstions I ordered from dreadscape in Australia. How would you recommend putting attaching them in better word to my locks. Ty love your video's and lockticians in my area are just greedy honestly and not going to pay 80 quid an hour. Lol
I like how you did them a few at a time... perhaps it’s better to start at the top then anything left over is hidden underneath?. :). Thanks for the vid.
Your great! Thanks for the info.. I'm hoping to start my dread journey soon.. looking for the right technique.. I have thick long ish wavy hair.. It's gonna take a while 👍😍👍
How do you keep the roots knotted? Mine ALWAYS gets extremely loose. Also, I can't tie my hair anymore cus the roots of my dreads look nappy and very not not neat. Why is this happening?
Holly Astral not necessarily lol, my hair is it’s natural color I’m almost 30 and I’ve had nurses ask me where is my parents, is my ID actually real (had to show another sometimes!) and everyone assumes my son is my younger brother, that really confuses him lol. Apparently I look eternally 16!
Hi Holly, I love your dreads. They look beautiful. Can I ask your advice?I stopped washing and brushing my hair 4 months ago, with a view to allowing my hair to dread naturally. I'm panicking now, coz realising that without sectioning my hair, I've allowed them to appear unevenly and on the large side, with perhaps very few in number. Do you think I can intervene at this stage to rip them or comb them into smaller, tidier sections? Your advice would be appreciated. I'm at the stage where cutting my hair short feels like the only option! Thanks 💜
You could try to rip them apart or cut them although most wont recommend it. From what I hear the best way is to use a lot of conditioner and brush out the dreads, section and give them a backcomb to tease them back for a start. Remember you can still wash your hair just don't brush it.
is it easy to dye the end of the hair while having dreads O.o it looks really hard idk why :X but it looks soo good on u ,u must maintain the color somehow, right?
I love your hair. Did you start out w extentions or did you end up cutting your hair at some point? My hair is long and in layers but I have been thinking about cutting them shorter someday in the future just to change my hair style.
I wanted dreads, I had my hair to my knee's , but if your a guy and u have bad hair genes ( yur moms dads bald) DONT DO IT. My hair line receded cuz my normal hair was to heavy , let alone dreads. But if if u can , GO FOR IT!
i backcombed them, and didn't use any products. After about a year they felt mature enough on the ends to start using some oil occasionally to keep them conditioned
Wasn't hard to dread your hair while it was bleached ? I would be scared to really weak my hair and like, break it ahah. Did you bleach your hair many times before you dread them ? (I used to have really reallyyyy long hair near January but I was a model for a hair dress and he cut my hair and bleach the entire head without asking me. I was planning about getting dreads but now I'm scared to dread them. I would like them to be quiet healthy if eventually I decide/have to take them off. I watched videos about people removing them, their hairs looks pretty healthy but I remember one girl talking about not bleaching hair combining dreadlocks ...:( )
It's important to start with healthy hair to begin with for a dreadlock journey. I recommend using lots of coconut oil and conditioners to get it to a healthier state before you try to start your head full of knots. It's like building a house, you want a good foundation to start. Damaged hair can have an easier time tangling, but, you also risk losing your locks if the hair shaft is not able to withstand the weight of wet locks. (They do get super heavy.)
This is not just a complaint to you, but to a lot of video makers. You talked for a minute about the locs on the top of your head, that they were too thin, you had to crochet them together etc. All very interesting and relevant stuff. But you've got them tied back so we can't see what you're talking about! Generally tho' I think they look great, and I love your eyebrows.
Hey, look(s) intresting x) .. Oh yeah, the first year... i have my dreads 5 months.. and they are crazy.. and thin and hdkekdmjekekdm.... ?. But i love dreads. And i hope they will be good! X)) Thanks for the video.. its nice and cool x) amd your dreads too!
Please do NOT stop washing your hair, not washing doesn't do anything to help your hair,, but you will have to stop using conditioner and make sure to only put shampoo on the roots, you can also find detox video for dreads but they need a bit of maturing time before this happens,, but please don't stop washing them, if your doing freeform, you don't need to use shampoo or comb it, but I do still recommend rinsing it out with water,
I find it is a misconception to say you had them done professionally, when from your description, the person obviously didn't know what they were doing
the prob with nose rings in this... once you get one, nobody will ever listen to anything you say ever again. they're too busy staring at your nose, thinking "gee....that must have hurt like HELL."
I'm not a hater, so please don't think I am, I really love your work. White people in dreadlocks has an issue behind it, and I can see that you're really happy as you talk about your hair style, so I wish it was different. But there's this thing that happens, when black people (whose hair naturally can go into a lock because of its texture) who started dreadlocks wear them, they're often seen as thugs, lazy, won't be hired for jobs, and called dirty. I see you've gotten a couple of comments from people being rude to you, but the outstanding majority of comments are positive- because the trend is, when black people do it, it's thuggy, but when white people do it, it's trendy and cute. This is a common theme amongst many other things that originated in black culture, and it's really heartbreaking for me to see happen, as someone who considers themselves an intersectional vegan... meaning, I care about animal issues and fight for their rights, which we have in common! But I also fight against racism, sexism, etc. and white people in dreads unfortunately contributes to that. I'm not saying you're a racist, but I am saying that your hairstyle is contributing to the cultural appropriation that POC are facing worldwide. Sometimes people say it's just the USA with problems but truly, racism is everywhere... 😥 When my black friends joke about how they could go to another country to escape Trumpism, but it wouldn't be different because black people are hated everywhere, is so sad to me. I wish I could change the world for them...nobody deserves to feel that way. Anyway... if there wasn't such a long history of turmoil involved, lynching, slavery...it'd be cool to mix cultures, I think. But because the people who started it are not socially accepted for doing it and legitimately have to fear for their safety when they do it, and white people are socially accepted and adored for doing the same, I can't support your dreads. I hope you've found this comment informative and will reconsider your hairstyle. 💕 ✌️ Find something else about hair to be passionate about! 😊
Krystyna Kapner Your use of emojis suggests you're a nice person and not trying to be rude with your comment, but I think you need to do a bit more research before you cast your judgement on me, or any other non-black person who wears their hair in locs. All hair will lock eventually, regardless of race. People of all ethnicities have worn their hair in locks since the beginning of recorded culture - pharaohs, ancient Greeks. And In more recent culture yogis in India who would renounce their combs and let their hair dread to show their devotion. Dreadlocks exist outside of black culture, and it is kind of racist to say that only black people should wear them.
all hair types lock naturally, holly said this, the only reason thay dreadlocks are so ingrained in black culture is because of rastafarianism, civilizations all over the world have this hairstyle or variants of it, no culture can claim to own a style or anything really, aspects of culture mix and evolve, claiming that it is wrong for this to happen is counter intuitive to the equality to claim to fight for, if black people are hated for their dreadlocks, then having it reach a larger audience will eventually lead to a societal shift in the feelings towards that culture, racial tension ends when everyone feels included and equal, so claiming someone else cant do something based on the color of their skin or other aspects of themselves that they cant control is not how we become a progressive society
Krystyna Kapner Yeah your statements are pretty inaccurate. A lot of people could benefit from reading up on history. Also only people who are actually racist see black people with dreads as "thugs. Normal people see black people with dreads as what they actually are, which is black people that have dreads.
Just a bit of an add-on to what you said about India. Lord Siva wears dreadlocks, also known in that system as Jatas. For thousands of years, not just recently, devotees of Lord Siva have worn jatas (dreads) to acknowledge that they want their inner space to be like His, to experience Oneness with Lord Siva. Check out a channel from Ma Nithya Swaroopapriyananda. She's a lovely young woman (maybe your age) from Canada living in India as a Hindu monk and devotee of Lord Siva. She has beautiful jatas (with extensions).
Puff Blossom it's not just me. Loads of people don't like the way they look on soft textured hair. I don't care what you say. It's looks perfect on course thick hair
Leon what makes your hair or Dreads so perfect and tell someone else there's doesn't.... As long as she's Happy with them, that's all that matters! I think Leon's jealous of your Locks and wish his looked like yours!

All dreads will be a little loose at the top. I have had two root maintenance sessions but other than that i leave them alone
Gosh, I thought you were in your 20's! Great advice, ty.
I get that all the time - i think its the pink hair! I'm 33

FYI
That info is in this video..
What method did you use to create your dreadlocks? How would you go about dyeing dreadlocks?
What locking method did you use to install your dreadlocks?

So, since you gradually put a few dreads in at different times, is your sectioning pretty random then?

For thousands of years, not just recently, devotees of Lord Siva have worn jatas (dreads) to acknowledge that they want their inner space to be like His, to experience Oneness with Lord Siva. Check out a channel from Ma Nithya Swaroopapriyananda. She's a lovely young woman (maybe your age) from Canada living in India as a Hindu monk and devotee of Lord Siva. She has beautiful jatas (with extensions).
Ummm the teeth
The whole stage is the "ugly stage" I'm not trying to be rude. But your hair looked better without the dreads. They aren't for your type of hair
Leon Mcgrue I have dreads and mine are maturing really fast, they are working out great for my hair.

Believe it or not, Chance, some women don’t care what you think of their appearance.
