Yes, the OEMs do have empty slots. Those empty slots are what accumulate all the dirt and grime which later cause problems.

I learned from another locksmith. Before you start in the field, especially if someone else worked on it first. You can get the switch off the back. Insert the current key and make sure it starts before you get too deep into it.
My first one was really a learning experience and cost quite a bit to keep my customer happy. I didn't verify when I started and their immo ring was damaged. I didn't do anything that would damage it, but didn't verify it functioned when I tore into it. Lesson learned. But now I'm more educated and confident.
    Great walkthrough PJ.

Hi, I would like to know if you have any idea regarding my honda car, it is detecting that there's a key in the ignition switch even if I already pull out the key. The fob won't let me lock the car automatically because it's detecting a key inside and I confirm this because whenever I open the door it will sound chirp, meaning that the key is still inside. By the way I've repaired the key cylinder thanks for your video it helps a lot👍🙂.

    A Question❓❓❓
What if u bought a cylinder lock online with 2 keys and on your old key u removed the little item in the key caps and put them in the new keys. Would that be sufficient enough for the car to recognize the key without programming. The old key u took out that little piece and put it in the new key.

Fantastic video but there's one thing I'm not clear about. Let's say I get a new ignition cylinder and mechanical key as sold on your website. The new ignition cylinder is pinned to the new key. If I simply had my old key with it's chip/transponder near the ignition cylinder would I be able to start the car with the new mechanical key? Or do the wafers in the ignition cylinder have to match the transponder code?

Depending on your model, its likely you triggered the ignition lock somehow. To dissable it, i had to call an auto locksmith to dissassemble the entire steering block to unlock the ignition lock.
If you're willing to try to unscrew the unheaded bolts that secure the assembly to the wheel yourself with a chisel and hammer, then you may not need a locksmith, but i didn't have the tools and needed my car. Cost me around 100$

Just take the lock cylinder out by pulling the roll pins take the lock cylinder out pull the Fing wafers and tiny springs out put back together. Slapper all back together and never have this problem again. The transponder in the key is the trick to getting it to start anyway so why f with the stupid never ending failing wafers and the key that is constantly wearing. And yes The stearing wheel still locks when you turn it off and pull the key.You can take your key out while its running too which is very convient at times. I put one full rap of black electric tape at the end of the cuts on the key so that the key doesnt fall out of the lock easily. Just did this today and it works like a champ. I'm an automotive locksmith an no hate here at all. As you correctly stated the security is in the transponder. To the guy that said the wheel will lock up while driving. You are 100% wrong. The cylinder won't turn all the back if it's not in park. How could having a working key in the lock vs having a key with no wafers in the lock make any difference? Honda locks are horrible compared to all other makes. Even Kia's and Hyundai's don't have these worn wafer issues.

@user-we2pr5lm7q you must have the transponder inorder to disable the secuiy system. From what I understand the transponder needs to be nearby, hanging the old key on the same keychain should work. You can move the old transponder to the new key so you can trash the old key, thus not have two keys.
My 2013 Civic Si, bought used with 203,000 miles nine months ago, the transponder is in the key fob. The key fob has come apart and the key is so wobbly it's hard to turn the key. I'm going to have to purchase a new fob and have a new key made as the old key is rather worn, like described in this video. The key still works except it has become difficult to turn past the first position, accessory position, to lock position, off so I can't remove the key from the ignition switch. This started after the car was in the body shop for two months due to an accident, not my fault, lol. Looks like I'm going to have to replace the wafers, as shown in this video. The shop cracked my windshield, they wouldn't own up to it, I know it wasn't like that when I dropped it off. Insurance covered it to be replaced. Point is I don't trust just anybody to work on my car. It's hard to find an honest and trustworthy mechanic nowadays. Sad but true.
Thank you for this video pj.

I have found ASP wafers work good but their replacement lock cylinder that you are using has too much
clearance between the plug and the outer housing, very sloppy.
If you have an original cylinder assembly you will find a code inked on the body which is very helpful in originating
a fresh key when the existing key is worn out.
