I do think season 4 actually had a nice build up to joe going insane and him excepting his darker side, I do have to say joes mental break was built up very well through out this whole show all the way back in season 1 hallucinating Candice after the car accident and the dreams, season 2 when Joe loses blood and starts seeing beck, season 3 when Joe gets the meseals and essentially is a preview of the dynamic with his split identity and not to mention the acid in season 2 bro was going to crack eventually
