This looks interesting. My ‘11 Tacoma has been making a clunking noise since I bought it (pre-owned). It’s like you can feel it in the steering even when going over just something small like gravel. I tried doing the zip tie fix mod but it only made the noise go away for a little. I will def try this.
I did all of the suspension and steering components from the rack all the way out. New sway bar bushings, new sway bar links... new upper and lower control arms, new Bilstein shocks. My 2005 Tacoma still clunks somewhere up front sometimes when starting and on rough roads. The search continues...
Same here my brother. Most annoying, I re-tighten everything down and still does it. Not sure what to do now. Maybe just keep driving it or sell it. Reason I said sale it because the car is old. Plus my daughter don't want to drive the Highlander. So selling it soon to buy her own, Corolla.
2021 TRD off road with 6inch lift and 35’s. took my truck off roading for the first time after the lift install and the steering rack area makes a clunking noise when hitting bumps especially when turning a little . took it back to the Shop that installed the lift (BDM Customs) and they said they couldn’t find anything wrong and every bolt was tight . i can’t see anything either it drives me nuts
I have the 2021 TRD off road and this just started happening after I got stuck in a ditch. The ditch was very shallow but filled with ice. I literally drove into the ditch at 1 mph to let someone through and then backed out of the ditch. I have no idea how it could have even damaged anything
My '21 SR makes a clunking noise over speed bumps front driver side sometimes, so annoying. Going to pull the tire and try pushing and pulling parts and see if I can replicate the sound
What if u don’t have a sway bar or links and have the issue ? Lol. There can be plenty of other reasons for a clunk such as the cv axle bearing, alignment cam bolts not being torqued right, or bad control arm bushings
Mevo tech supreme brand is trash I had these same sway bar links on my honda they lasted barley a month and I also had to do upper control arms 4 different times on my honda I bought the mevotech supreme upper control arms pulled out the garage were clunking and had play immediately brand new not even 2 mins so I warrentied them got new ones had the same problem warrentied them again same problem after 4 different trys I gave up with mevotech never again will I use mevotech always go with beck arnley if it gives you the option or delphi after 4 tries I ended up going with beck arnley after 1 try with beck arnley no more noise the problem was finally fixed never again will I go with mevo tech

atvbass10 my symptoms were exactly the same. You can actually see the pace between the bushings.

Did you ever figure it out? Mine sounds like it's under the driver dash or around that area

Hey, did you happen to find the clunk sound? Also does your steering wheel shake when that noise happens?
Where did you get the parts?
Do you have a link or description?
2000 Tacoma here. Mine is clunking when the body rocks back and forth and especially when turning, mostly to the right
Shock strut
I'm here cause I thought it was the sway. Pulled it off entirely and hit some bumps, wasn't the sway. At least these things are easy to work on.
You don’t need an allen key you just need your air impact and it’ll spin off in half a second
I have a similar noise and do not have a sway bar installed so...
Mine clunks bad when hitting a speed bump. And the dealer told me its normal and that its just a toyota thing lol 😆
Dealer is a fucking idiot haha. Check your rack mount bushings

@@Automotib i figured mine out. it was the body mount bolt right behind the drivers side front tire ! no clunking anymore
No analysis after to see if it worked?
look at the difference between 6:06 and 7:59
Did the clunking sound go away??
yes it did. you can see that in the video too, there was no play after replacing the bushings.
