    I think system production will be sped up exponentially very soon. Considering Stanton was basically make in Frankfurt by a team who was around as many fingers you can count on your hands, while they simultaneously build the planetary tech. Let's not forget that the main purpose of the Montreal team is to build and flesh out future systems, and CIG is looking to hire 100 plus people for that studio alone. Montreal also has the luxury of having most of the tools already built.

      I think the main point being is a lot of newcomers to the game don't realize is that a very large amount of the time that has been spent on fleshing out Stanton was just making the Tools to create Star systems. Now that they have established build pipelines and have a toolbox full of tools to do it with, I suspect like you do that Star systems will start to be built out at a much faster pace. Relatively speaking(compared to Stanton) of course.

      Imo they should really fix Stanton first and learn how to do civilized, industrial planets from this system. Stanton's got so much potential with four entirely populated and economic planets but as is it's almost not explored.
      Not that I don't want to see Terra but it'd be a shame if it was as functionally empty as ArcCorp is

    • @SternLX
      @SternLX Рік тому +9

      @@Meuduso1 ArcCorp is due a complete make over, it was never intended to have the whole planet covered in "City". ArcCorp as it sits was just a Tech Demo for the procedural Cityscape tool. It's supposed to have Continents covered in Cities and Oceans. They discussed this in the CitCon presentation when they were first showing off ArcCorp and the Cityscape tool. I believe they're waiting until Server Meshing is fleshed out because it'll have more than Area 18 as a Landing Zone. They limited each planet to 1 landing zone each for server performance reasons. It's why Levski was removed and sent home to Nyx... they needed the landing zone slot/server resource for Orison.

    You mentioned how the Coil will be one of the most interesting areas when it comes into the game simply cause Nyx, Pyro and Stanton don't have such a thing and I agree
    It's a bit of a shame though. Stanton's big thing is that it's an economic power house bustling with traffic and people so "the big thing" should be the four planets of Stanton, which is in itself remarkable because few systems feature that many LZs.
    Pyro's big thing could be an extreme reliance on reputation, like you gotta know where you're going and which gang those parts belong to or you'll end up having a bad time.
    And Nyx has great potential with that dark nebula envlopping the planets.
    In general the systems in SC all have extreme amounts of potential and some special thing about them and it is sad that we can't really explore that potential all that much simply because stuff just has to get made.
    My two favourite systems on the starmap are ones we won't get in a looong time, Tamsa and Banshee. Tamsa is the black hole system which just sounds fun and unique and Banshee's star is a pulsar that makes the planet's surfaces uninhabitable but the people settled underground and put massive magnetic coils on the surface of their planet to harness electricity from the violent star, which sounds sooo sick
    Also there's one problem I have with Stanton: Where's all the food comming from? There aren't really any fields anywheee, not even in the savannah biomes of Hurston that might be best suited

    Unfortunately for CIG, because that 100 systems was a stretchgoal of the kickstarter, they're legally obligated to release 100 systems "on launch." There are a TON of ways they could achieve that, though, without making systems as in-depth as Stanton is now

    • @Ocmersh

      @@Ocmersh Yeah, again: they are LEGALLY BOUND to release 100 systems. Talked about this on my own channel (I'm a paralegal), but I'm not going to poach tomato's channel. They have a few ways they can get around that legal obligation:
      1) They can release the unfinished systems as basically just a skybox;
      2) They can release the unfinished systems with the planets, moons, planetoids, etc in a T0 state (shouldn't be overly difficult with their current planet tech) - there wouldn't be specific locations, etc - bare bones. Bare, bare bones;
      3) They can just keep it in an "unreleased state" until all 100 systems are completed;
      4) They can spin up a bunch of teams like Montreal and lean heavily into their expanding tech and spin up the majority of the systems (ones like Spider will be a hell of a task, though).
      I think they'll go for a combo of 2, 3, and 4 depending on the complexity/uniqueness of the system in question. Kickstarter, Inc v. Fan Funded, LLC if you want to read the caselaw.

      @@DawnstealerGaming Yeh i mean this should be pretty simple to deal with really. Once they have a couple working systems and most of the gameplay in, they can go to beta, and just stay there for however long they need and just fix bugs and add new systems, or yeh, just make copies of pyro or nyx or whatever and like shuffle the textures and stuff and release a bunch of empty systems that they fill in in future expansions.

There are other recent examples of multimillion dollar kickstarters that have been sued by their base, and it being thrown out on the grounds an honest effort was made(see the recent case of Chronicles of Elyria). I just dont think it is so cut and dry. For the purposes of SC, they released their modified EULA, and mention that so long as the game is in active development, regardless of the phase (alpha,beta,release) they are fulfilling their promised goals. Because they said that we will get 100 systems, but almost 100 handcrafted system, they will change their game and add more systems but empty worlds to explore using procedural tools. It will come out especially when base building will be in not before. This will like other things, be implemented because other features (star systems) are not being delivered as fast as initially thought. And its a good thing because we will end up with a universe with what, 100 rich system + 400 procedural systems where player own structure and territory war will probably happen.

  • @GorBane

    The wiki lore wasn't just the old lore for Pyro, it was the old-old lore lol. The Loremaker's Guide to the Galaxy video that Cherie did on Pyro however many years ago already mentioned removing the prolonged nova phase of the star because the science didn't check out. I wouldn't be surprised if that happened again for other systems. It's not like they changed the lore as they made the system, it was already changed a long time ago, people just didn't pay attention, and are only making a fuss now. It's pretty funny TBH. And as has been described before by others in the community, a lot of the concepts and lore for theses systems were made before we'd be able to land and explore every planet and moon, and landing on them was basically a cutscene like Starfield, meaning most of those planets wouldn't even be visitable. That, and I'd rather look at something interesting when I land in Pyro instead of just being a bunch of black rocks in space. Gameplay comes first. I don't consider lore set in stone until we get it in-game anyway. CIG's learned a lot over the years, if they think something should be changed, then it probably should be changed.
    After they get the cluster of systems around Stanton done, I wouldn't be surprised if they went in the direction of Killian and started working their way toward Sol.
    I saw a comment during the video in the chat asking if there was a black hole system, and there is. I don't remember which one it is though. There's also a rogue planet system as well. Some interesting stuff coming in the future.

      Pretty much everything you named here would be a great base for npc given missions and they could even make some of them ship related. So in one case you only find a sample and fly it back and in another case you need a specific ship like the endeavor, where you get send out to find and analyze maybe a certain amount of items in a specific system and return after you found and analyzed all of them for a higher payout than a 'normal' mission would give where you only find and deliver the item.

    Awesome video as always, I cant wait to see a new system.
    I always liked the idea of sending out a probe from a known system, finding a jump point to an unknown system that you cannot jump back from until some things like resources are discovered, and things like a jump gate are built. Once there players can then sell the jump point to the new system, or others can find it the same way you did with probes. As more and more people show up, things can start to be implemented from the dev teams from contributions from the players, to build things like a new jump gate and space station. Whole orgs could be needed for something like this because if you are the first people there, not only will you be trying to discover what that system has to offer, you will also have to survive and will need supplies, fuel, and equipment to survive long enough for that system to be built up a little over say that year or something.

      Not tryna be a party pooper here but there's a big problem with this type of exploration stuff, mainly that it's not repeatable, though that certainly doesn't mean it's impossible
      Like SC is an MMO like many others and while there are certain things that you can lock behind a one-time or limited time event, the baseline stuff absolutely has to be repeatable. That is what people are refering to when they say that exploration really may not pan out in that Star Trek kind of way, since these things are kind of one time things. Again, not impossible but definitely not standard

    I also wonder if some folks are playing the Star Citizen that im playing or that it is just for some their point of view is skewed and they think that a project as HUGE as Star Citizen should of been finished within 1-2 yrs...i have never went along for the development ride in any other gaming project besides SC and I dont believe many other game dev cos do allow the public(not even just customers) to for the most part see the good , the bad and the ugly stages of development. Just imagine idk having the entire internet being able to micro analyze whatever it is you do for work or some project that you are taking on..lol...I cant imagine but CIG, Chris basically from the beginning made sure that SC development would not be up to 100% of eveyones expectations maybe but it will be transparent which in and of itself is such a incredibly valuable aspect...not only are we able to be in this incredible open world experience but we actually get to be inside of CIG dev workspaces...Now there is nothing wrong with maybe being a bit anxious and super stoked to see the vision completed but you must have reasonable expectations on just how much of work something like SC takes to give all of us a not just an avg game like all the rest but the 1st of its kind and because Chris doesnt have a board and shareholders that are pushing him to just get SC on to shelves weather its finished or not...he says why not do everything that is doable...and some things that were not technologically attainable in 2015 are now able to be put into the game.. so its to all of our benefit that time is on CIG's side...we get a dream come true type of game in the end...and if the end is not within trhis next yr or 5 yrs...we still play the working game in alpha.. which at this point is more of a game than a lot of so called finished games that are out now. So everyone when you just cant stand to wait another day..try and think of the end goal..and anyway, being negative wont get CIG or Chris to just call SC finished because you want it to be so...So ENJOY the game for what it is and be excited for everything that it will be

Unless QT is supposed to disconnect you from spacetime, this is necessary, and it might also mean that you can exploit gravity wells to slingshot and save fuel across large systems. Maybe only possible with specific ship computer upgrades.
    Now, if you've ever played KSP and used multipoint maneuver and trajectory planning, you will know how I think they could let you manipulate your QT route and leave fuel saving slingshot maneuvers to be a player developed skill available to anyone bothering to learn how to do it.

    Wouldn't it be more immersive if we the players had to build the gates?
    Materials would have to be shipped into a satellite,...it would take X amount to complete the gate and any return trip would have to have another gate built on the other side.
    Could make for some good game play, contracts, mining, pirates and isolation until an adjoining gate could be completed! Basically you and a group would "jump" blind into a new system taking everything you need. Of course RSI would send a satellite.

    I think we can assume Chapter 1 of S42 will release before a v.1 of the PU is pushed out. In which case I can't see any of the systems used in S42 being made available in the PU Alpha for fear of spoilers. I suspect S42 will come out just as PU hits Beta (as the core systems will then have been fully fleshed out). S42 will then be out for a month or a quarter and then the Chapter 1 system/s will be pushed to the PTU. The same will happen for the forthcoming chapter content. I believe they planed on releasing S42 in three parts, but with 42 chapters in development on the roadmap maybe they change track and release each as they become available. I then can't see an issue with RSI keeping the PU in Beta until the 100 systems are crafted. With half a billion dollars raised so far and no sign of slowing down they can hire as many designers, technical artists, animators etc they need once the tools have been made rock solid and the content will flow thick and fast.

    Not a bad video, I like it and agree with many of the conclusions - you deserve some more exposure. Regardless of what the next few are, they really need to lay out a better roadmap and timeframe for content. I get features and tech taking a while and being unknown.... and I get how those can impact content coming out, such as not having the tools, network and server management, etc. HOWEVER, the hardware limitation argument goes out the window once we have Pyro and/or Nyx, largely anyway.
    I really, really hope we get to where they are making two to three systems per year within the next two years.... should we expect less for $70-80+ million in annual funding? I really think that we should expect way more at some point, even after you consider all of the other development related to SQ42 and SC.

Per the Star Citizen wiki Stanton is 5 AU in size and Pyro is 13. Given the known travel distances for Stanton (at this time) that 5 AU size shown on the wiki is too big.

  • @Joehockey1990

    I'm super hopeful that CIG takes the Difficulty deciding system and uses that for where a player starts. You'll have 3 options first. Do you plan to play LAWFUL, NEUTRAL, EVIL? Then 5 options that provide an EASY, MEDIUM, HARD for each. So you theoretically can have 9 different starting systems. If CIG really wanted to spice it up, they could have multiple planets in these pools to choose from as well. Even just 2 would double the locations which players could spawn creating a widely diverse verse where players are widely spread out from the first moment of "full release".
    EVIL EASY / NEUTRAL HARD / LAWFUL HARD = Pirate controlled System (Pyro or Oberon)
    EVIL MEDIUM / NEUTRAL EASY/ LAWFUL MEDIUM = Uncontrolled System (Nyx or Hades)
    EVIL HARD / NEUTRAL MEDIUM/ LAWFUL EASY = UEE controlled System (Terra or Idris)
    Just would be cool to see players starting in a somewhat reasonable location if they have a plan for how they want to play. Starting in Terra with 100% piracy in mind would be torturous to save enough money to get away from UEE controlled space and start out on your own and much easier if you start down the block from pirate factions to grow your rep with. Same goes for a cargo hauler or bounty hunter. Starting in Pyro without any money would be crazy difficult but starting in Terra would be a cakewalk.

    Also, one of my biggest problems with some of the dynamics and stories at play is scale. The size of worlds like ArcCorp suggests a game that has millions of NPCs flying just in Stanton at any one point. Connected systems would have now less than hundreds of thousands of ships in them at any one point.... just by virtue of the size of the worlds.
    This means that, in addition to the universe feeling FAR more empty than it should (hopefully that changes with dynamic server meshing, which will improve both NPC and player count), the current lore and events don't make a ton of sense. Pirates controlling jump points transited by hundreds of thousands of ships per day? Riiiiiiiiiight. UEE not having a massive presence in nearly all nearby systems? Riiiiiiiight.... as if they wouldn't have an interest in defending UEE citizens engaged in mining, settlement, etc... that are quite literally only 30-45min travel time away.

    It may be a vision by one of the lead devs, but this is not gameplay by any stretch of imagination. The only thing this accomplishes is that the quanta eats up all of the gameplay. There is nothing left for the players to do. The only thing left is contract work which means there can be no mining, or any non-contract work. Salvage will be eaten by the NPC's, everything will. This is why they announced that players will not be able to affect the economy. This is a grandiose idea with unintended consequences. Players will be out competed for any significant gains in every aspect of the game. Players will be on a subsistence basis. There is no consideration for the players to be able to function in any meaningful way. No way to get ahead in any way with hauling. Look at the level of movement in that quanta graph. what can possibly be left to do? Just contracts. crumbs.

    Pyro is ridiculous. Your observation that it's an important system has obviously flown right over CIG's collective head. The system should have a UEE presence. It's too important. There should--at the very least--be UEE garrisons at the jump points, and well maintained stations. There should be SAR units as well.
    The poorly maintained stations are ridiculous. Space is lethal. Stations at that level of neglect (and outright vandalism) are life threatening. They require maintenance and discipline to remain viable. Some trash...sure. Spray paint? Yeah. But these gangs are one bad choice away from killing everyone on the station. It's not lawless. It's suicidal. Who sets a fire in a space station?! These people would have died long ago.
    No...alas...Pyro is style over substance. It's not a frontier system. That doesn't make sense. You can't wave the fallacies away with a lore post. Saying it's so doesn't make it make sense.
    While I will celebrate the milestone of Pyro coming online, and the progress of the game, I'll be avoiding Pyro for as long as I play the game, unless they revise it and make it make sense. I hope they do a better job with future systems.
    Oh. And space clouds are not common. CIG is just really proud of their cloud tech, and I'm tired of seeing it as an ambience feature.
