A man in Florida stole a patrol car while officers were investigating a disturbance. He was eventually forced off the road and crashed the car into the woods but then, he jumped out of the first car and into a second cruiser and drove down a highway. Police were finally able to run him off the road and take him into custody.

Chitwood at it again! Making the news by being the "arrestor" when his boys did all the work. All he did was drive in a car and walk up to a door.
He did a drug bust a few years back, His guys came flooring on foot into the house and grabbed the guy so fast that no one could really identify what was going on or why he was being taken. Chitwood is riding in last on cameras but brags about the bust. Lol, his 8 undercovers running in yelling WARRANT with guns did all the work.

Quite brave of him to not shoot but if he reached for something then all bets are off. That officer had it hard when the two choices are he could be prosecuted for shooting an unarmed man or letting a fugitive in a cruiser kill someone with reckless driving or get a hold of a gun.

Motor 1 always locks the door behind him. Even on his motorcycle. Especially on his motorcycle. That way a criminal is not tempted to break the legal law.
The officer who "didn't shoot him" is actually holding a yellow weapon. So he probably attempted to deploy a less than lethal weapon but it was ineffective. You can see the same officer who didn't shoot, yank the electrical wires from his weapon right after the suspect drives off so it's a certainty he fired his weapon. He probably did exactly the right thing under the circumstances.
Until the criminal spins out into oncoming traffic and takes out a family traveling in opposite direction. Luckily that was not the case in this situation but cops hesistance to shoot dangerous suspects commonly results in loss of innocent lives. And lets be honest there is 1 reason he was not immidiatly shot.

I live in Volusia and Chitwood used to be our police chief and he cleaned things up quickly as chief. As sheriff you definitely don’t hear he sits on his hands. Large percentage of time he’s out there.
In the academy I went through, during scenarios, we had points marked off for leaving the cruiser unlocked. I guess they don't do that in Florida.

Was looking for this comment and For someone that finds all the details for his video he didn’t mention he had a taser when you can clearing see it and went straight to the “didn’t shoot” comment was basically forced in their when it wasn’t the right situation too a bit biased but of course if he had reach for any weapon shoot him no doubt
I didn’t even know or see it was a taser and donut didn’t either. It was a quick cursory glance, which is why he also says it looks like he has him at gun point. It is understandable why he’d also think the officer had lethal on him since the suspect has stolen now a second vehicle, with weapons, and if it’s anything like the ones I was in previously, has a shotgun in the center unlocked. It was also never communicated for us to hear that one would maintain non lethal while the remaining held their lethal. It was probably a private discussion amongst each other. But I can see how it appears to be a very biased question if the guy was physically unarmed and had really no knowledge of the contents of the vehicles prior to stealing them.
As a note; I was a ride along when in the police vehicle. And it was with a Florida sheriffs department. The local police department, I rode with, I don’t believe had shotguns in the center.

Yeah lol, the officer that could have fired on him, but let him take it SHOULD have fired, that vehicle is a weapon, he could have ran officers over, or imagine if he went across, and crashed into a women, and her children, or any innocent civilian driving 4:28... Also possibly obtaining a firearm within the vehicle, and shooting officers that approached him after spiked.. People that are driving dangerously, crashing, stealing cars, etc, not stopping from police need to be shot, it's no different than shooting a gun in a neighborhood randomly at houses, and trees, and not stopping when officers tell them to. If someone did die, that cop would regret not shooting for rest of his life.
I understand if they're just not pulling over, but if they're crashing, jumping out stealing cop cars, crashing, repeat they need to be shot, and stopped before someone innocent gets killed. Every cop there looks like they all hopped out of a clown car, and need better training.

Kinda sucks but i think it's way better than having an officer clock you from their car radar and then chase you to stop you and give you a fine. It's 2021 after all.

True - but to be fair, shooting him to death there wouldn't have been right either. The reaction speed of those officers was pretty bad since he ran right by them all and any of them could've tackled him or the K9 officer could've let the dog go - which other officers even yelled but he didn't listen.
Also, instead of holding a gun to his head, the officer could've pulled him out of the car or taken the taser out of he had enough time.

@@OppositeOfMute Shooting him would be rightful, accordig to the law. He's in a car filled with deadly weapons, speeding down the highway. Clearly threatening physical harm to the public. But I agree that it wasn't the right decision in this scenario. I agree the cop didn't handle it well, but a shooting here would have been lawful.
@@colin9040 I agree. Ultimately I think its weird that police vehicles don't have a mode to 'standby' when a keyfob/rfid isn't in the vehicle while keeping the engine running and stuff. I would think that would be the most useful and important of all the buttons they could put in a police car with guns in it.

Personally I don't like the decision not to shoot. Today no one got hurt, but countless other scenarios lead to people dying or being affected for life because the officer did not end the threat when he had the chance. Decades ago this kind of stuff did not happen. Situations were resolved fairly quickly and with little manpower/equipment. Criminals did not play these games, because no one played with them.
@@DaveSmith-cp5kj He wasn't trying to run over the officers and the road ahead was cleared. I get that he could pose a threat to others, but it's got to be tough shooting and likely killing an unarmed man. I'm glad the officer didn't have to go through that.

Between the optics of shooting an unarmed man as well as that crossfire I think not shooting was the right call. It looks like they had the highway clear, officers ahead, and a swarm behind him. I think other than not locking the cruiser doors or potentially deploying a taser (which wouldn’t have worked, but you get points for attempting) this was handled about as well as could be expected.
The floridaman was at the cop's arms' reach. I wonder if the latter could've just punched him instead of messing with the taser?
