WOW! I'm actually a Filipino world traveller who met my Romanian wife there in Sighisoara! Now we are living in London watching you with envy as you quarantine in one of my most favourite places in the Philippines! Stay safe and healthy! Greetings from us here in UK!
Sighisoara is such a lovely place. (Timisoara is another favorite place of mine.) Romania, as a whole, blew me away with its beauty and charm when I travelled around EU two years ago. I think Romania is one of the underrated countries in EU. Definitely a must to visit before being run over by mass tourism. :)
Yeah, come to Timișoara! It is the New York of Romania! Hungarians, Serbs, Germans, Romanians, Bulgarians, Gypsies living together, sharing their culture, food, traditions! I have always celebrated 2 Easters - the Orthodox and the Catholic ones, at times I celebrated 2 Christmases - the Serbian after the old Christian calendar and the Romanian one. Timișoara is the most western city in Romania, having Hungarian, Turkish, Greek, westerns influences! Here our differrences bind us together because we have lived this way forever! And it is a great!
Your video brought me to tears. So much harmony in the way you filmed. My country of birth is so beautiful, I realized after being in Canada for the last 24 years. I should rediscover it too. Thank you for this beautiful reminder 🙏
I was born in Sighișoara, and for me it's the most beautiful town in the world.I'm glad when I see the peoples who know appreciate such a beautiful old town.
I have been here to both places. I have been coming to Romania since 2007. Romania is so beautiful. Thanks for this video. You all did a great job. O I LOVE your scarf !!!
@@papaszem44 Hungary regained about two-fifths of Transylvania during World War II (Vienna Award; August 1940), but the entire region was ceded to Romania in 1947.
Sighișoara - you read it like this See-ghee-shua-rah. Hope this helps! Ciorba (the first meal) - Chi-or-bah. In Romania, onion and garlic are considered natural remedies for colds. We have lots of crows and pigeons probably more than Paris.
This seems to be such an enchanting place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much!
Thank you very much for showing the best from our country . Also Anna, you have a beautiful soothing voice. I like the way you describe what you see, eat etc
I think it's even more captivating during summer! It's a pretty cool place for us romanians to visit during summer vacations, too. I never miss the chance to pay a visit whenever I am in the area... it's a piece of history, a short travel back in time and a legacy for future generations.
In 1973 there were big floods in Romania, and what you've noticed as the "new" side of Sighisoara, on the river shores, was built after the old houses were demolished. I remember passing through the city two years later, and there were still many of the old houses. One could see that the water had reached up to the roof, and the walls were badly affected. Even as a child, I was able to understand the drama of the people who had to climb to their roofs and wait to be recued by helicopters. Many died, it was a tragedy. In schools were organized donation centers, I remember my parents and I going to donate clothes, blankets and food. Oh, that cemetery is the resting place of one of my great-grandfathers, Pantelimon. I do not know where his grave is, my grandmother was hardly remembering, because he died in the hospital, they used to live very far away. I do remember walking through the cemetery, though. Thank you, also, for showing so many images of the old city. I am from Brasov, and old buildings used to be part of my life for many, many years.
I love the structure and the colors in those house's, the colors reminds me of old San Juan in Puerto Rico' what a nice looking little town thanks for sharing!

Sighisoara is my hometown. I love the city where I was born and I respect it. But those in power do not respect him because there is corruption. The walls are collapsing, the pavement has been sold and replaced with normal stones and many other things from which they could steal. I'm glad you like this place and you informed yourself very correctly! But still I think it should depend on the citizens to choose their leadership well to save our small medieval town, "Pearl of Transylvania". I wish you good luck in your travels!❤️
Great video, guys! I'm glad that you've enjoyed the country and I love the fact that you do a little bit of research (even if it's wikipedia) before you visit places.
I also tried to visit Sighisoara when I went to Romania last year but the commute from Sibiu was confusing so I didn't make it. It's on my bucketlist though!
Min. 7:36 - CIORBA = sour soup. Ciorba read as "Tschiorba". The name is of Arabic origin and it means "to drink" = yashrab. In fact, this word was taken by the Ottoman Empire from the Arabic occupied parts and changed into Turkish as "çorba", read as in Romanian. Romania being occupied by the Ottoman Empire for about 480 years, the Turks brought not only the word to us, but also the...sour soup. CIORBA is NOT dressed with vinegar but another kind of liquid called BORȘ (read as Borsh). It's simply water and wheat bran left to sour for 2-3 day in a worm place. In Transylvania and Northern Moldavia, they use to eat Ciorba with sour cream. SIGHIȘOARA - read as Sigishoarah. The wood roof over the 180 steps was built to protect the kids going uphill to the school on rainy or snowy weather. It looks like you guys missed the house where Vlad III the Impaler (Dracula) was born., now a restaurant. Nice video, informative.
I live in Romania (at the south of moldavia region) but never been to Sighishoara. What is interesting on that cemetery from what I see is that there are no crosses so I guess up there in the old times they weren't orthodox by religion. The crosses in a cemetery is a characteristic for orthodox people. 08:19 I heard that usually tarragon is used in food recipes only/mostly in Transylvania . Here in moldavia we don't use tarragon and I think I know why : its because its powerful perfume is kinda similar with the washing powder ' perfume so we need to be very careful on dosage otherwise the food will smell like a very scented soap. My family did such a mistake on the dosage of tarragon , added to much tarragon and as we are not used to this powerful smell we had to throw away the whole borscht food. Big like from Galatz. Edit : another reason why tarragon is not so used in food recipes in the south of Moldavia it's, maybe, because this plant is not grown here, I mean not mass produced, so it's kinda an unknown aromatic plant.
Well you saw it the wrong way, they are all just tombstones and crosses everywhere. Crosses are characteristic for catholic cemeteries, too. Of course you don't understand that, they are all German-Saxon crosses and inscriptions in German language, all with the names of the people buried there. And the Germans were all catholic in that area, just like the buildings and churches there, not in orthodox, but catholic-gothic style. I hope you understand now. Have a nice day!

It is definitely one of my favs! Pronounced (Sigi shwara). Glad you ventured out to this country. One of the things I will mention that you touched on in a previous video is that customer service in the restaurants and stores are very much lacking in being helpful and friendly as a rule. But as a people they are a kind, giving and hospitable … hopefully in time more emphasis will be placed on the importance of customer service with regard to the tourist industry.

I was just there, and I loved it! Would love to go back and spend two more days there

Hello Ana, one small suggestion: next time you eat Mici, don't cut it with a knife because you miss/waste the juice of it. Micii(plural) are finger- food; and...use less mustard on it to preserve the taste of it...😊👍
Thanks for the info!
Hi guys greetings from Montréal Canada. I hope you enjoy your new destination and stay safe. I will retire in 60 days July 17, and will travel to my hometown in Chania Crete in October for the winter in my friends hotel only 50 meters from the beach in Agii Apostli ⛱☀️🏊♂️
Enjoy retirement! We love Crete and have a few videos on that amazing island on our channel - Anna

Creepy are you Maureen, you dont have in your freek country what we have here in Romania, and please try to learn more about everything, because we romanians are very prepared, educated, bilingual people, the smartest i could say, please dont be more stupid that you are!its an advice for you
@@cristinaionica3399 you don’t sound educated writing this.. just saying!! Lol
@@cristinaionica3399 Well, I have done some researches on the inscriptions on the tombstones in that graveyard and I realized the ancient Romanian language was very similar to the modern day German language. Look at all those names, they all sound like German, just like the texts themselves. I thought Romanian is a latin language, i was wrong, sorry.
Sour soup good for a cold
