I prefer this kind of blogs than those of the beaches, there's loads of it already. The castle in Budapest is worth visiting too, by the way. Haven't had the chance to read Dracula by B Stoker but I did read The Historian by E Kostova.
I went to Bran Castle and Brasov 3 weeks ago! The only difference was my tour went to Peles Castle instead of Rasnov. I was very lucky as the castles closed the next day due to Covid-19, and I was so happy I visited! The castles are beautiful and Brasov is gorgeous.
Wow, how nice. you are really getting good at those drone videos.. so professional. Thanks so much for back to normal for a few video's. continue to be safe. take care.
thank you for showing this vid!! the way you got those fog machines to fill the valley...cinematic brilliance!!! lol...spooky and beautiful! If you ever get a chance, read up on the full history of Vlad...fascinating stuff!! Stay safe, Anna and Trevor!!
This is the reason why I went to Romania as part of my Europe trip last year - to see Bran Castle! I'm a fan of the story. I also uploaded a vid to remind of this spooky trip 😁
Absolute Escape Well, I guess it depends on time of the day and the weather, but usually castles and citadels here are rather crowded in the summertime.
Bram Stoker described this castle in his famous novel after he saw a picture of it. He also took the name Dracula from Vlad Dracul, Vlad Țepeș's father. I think he wanted to name his character just that vampire but then changed it to Dracula but never recognised he based his character on Vlad Țepeș. Dracula is a fictional character and to call Vlad Țepeș Dracula is just wrong. He's castle is Castle Poenari not this one. He was born in Sighișoara Citadel about 100 km from Bran.
And Dracul comes from the latin draco meaning dragon. In Romanian it means the devil. Vlad was a member of the Dragon Order. There is an interesting book about this subject called from Vlad Țepeș to Dracula the vampire, it's written in Romanian by a famous historian Neagu Djuvara but it's translated in English too. I visited the castle for the second time and Râșnov too. I went to Sighișoara too but in 2010.
When Coppola wanted to make his Dracula movie in Romania in the 80s he got a big _no_ . But now there are as many Dracula castles as there are traveling agencies ;)
The scenery is incredible. Okay, can we talk about how narrow that staircase corridor was...I felt anxious just from your video of it. You two are brave
Visited this castle way back and was impressed by the history of vlad the Impeller. I wont go into too much gory detail but he was a fearsome man that you didn't want to cross. The name impailer was indeed a nasty way to die.
Bram Stoker's great-grandson organized an expedition to the Călimani Mountains, where the author of the novel Dracula imagined that it was the castle of the dreaded vampire, according to the latest notes. The organizers mounted a plaque on Izvorul Peak.
oh if you we're there at night and heard the wolves howl that would be the full transylvanian experience, although, tbf to hear wolves you'd prolly need to be in the mountains.
WOW....Cool & Creepy at the same time. It does look like Dracula might live in that castle. I was waiting for him to fly out of that foggy forest and bite your neck. Lol. Take Care From Bethlehem Pa The Christmas City.
Vlad II Dracul, the father of Vlad III Dracul (Țepeș) was the founder of the Drăculeşti dynasty, which lasted until the 17th century. The surname "Țepeș" is actually a nickname (given by the Turk’s) given to Vlad III Dracul(a) as a result of the method of stabbing used by him. This nickname, it is associated with Vlad after his death, has remained in use to this day. The name “Dracul (a)” comes from the Romanian ruler Vlad III Dracul (Țepeș); father of Vlad Țepeș (DRACULA), as a result of his belonging to the Order of the Dragon, an order of which his son later became a part. The word "Draco" means "dragon" in Latin. Vlad ”is the first name, worn both by Țepeș and by his father and“ Dracul ”represents his father's family name. "The DRACU(LA) was his real name.

Also, like with any other movie, it is also a bit biased and propagandistic in nature, but not too much. Overall, the movie depicts the events and life of Vlad the Impaler at the reign of Transilvania quite accurately, so you will understand his life better than from Stoker's book. For us, Romanians, Vlad the Impaler (as much as I disapprove of his cruelty), has been a national hero because in a time when the biggest empires were all eager to take our lands and enslave us, in a time where the corruption and outlaws have been rampant a radical solution was needed. And the radical solution could have not come from a pansy, or from a weak ruler in general. This is where Vlad had come in and cleaned up the Romanian territory of scumbags, outlaws, thieves, and ottomans. Unfortunately, much like today, corruption had still been rampant and it's the one thing that Vlad could not stop (which is what has led to his decay), but for the short period of time in which we have been allowed to live in peace and fairness on our own lands we hold Vlad dearly to our hearts. Well, those who still feel Romanian blood running through their veins. The soulless, corrupt, traitors don't feel anything anymore. But they could still use a pointy stick stuck somewhere private :)
