The eggplant salad is made this way: eggplants are grilled till you can take the skin off. Then minced/ blended with salt, onion and oil. Some add mayonnaise as well, but that is optional.
In the floating island dish, the merengue has no sugar and it is not baked, it is gently boiled. The custard in the video is much thicker than the one mum makes at home.

About what you said at the end on people not looking very friendly and being all smiles, let me explain a bit. Romanians are pretty true to their feelings, that means not displaying a fake smile if there is no reason to it. They may also seem less smiley on the streets as life is not so easy there for many . But you can be sure that it doesn't take much to open their heart and see how friendly and welcoming they can be. I prefer it that way instead of being met with smiles and stubbed in the back as it often happens in the western world😉

Waiting for a waiter for ten minutes is not that unusual in nearly all parts of Europe. I'm afraid it's something Americans kind of have to get used to. I'm sure you've travelled enough to know more about it than me. I live in the UK and the service is OK compared to some countries but nothing like what you get in the USA. I actually find the service in the USA a bit too far the other way. They won't leave you alone and sometimes bring you the bill before you've asked for it, which seems like a polite way of saying 'get lost now'. Great video by the way. I adore Romania.

The first restaurant you went to (Casa Tarancutei = The house of the little peasant girl/woman) is a street food thing, like McDonald's. You buy your food at the counter and sit down or leave. They don't serve the tables. They would have asked you if you needed something but they were probably shy. I don't think they speak English there so the more reason to be shy. The food there is quite good. Not the most amazing but on the good side.

Eggplant salad is my favourite! I can eat it everyday! You can make it at home as well. You re supposed to grill it on a hot tin, make sure it is well roasted inside, then let it cool, peel it, then let the jiuces come out, when it is dry you chop it finely and mix it it with a little salt, olive oil untill it becomes whiteish...and add chopped onions. You can also add a litlle mayo and put it on bread and fresh tomatoes on top!
We also have a kind of unique salad, I haven t seen it anywhere else in the world, it is called fish eggs salad. Also eaten with onions, olives on a piece of bread or toast. Bon appetite!

The desert is called “Lapte de pasare” which can be translated like “Bird Milk”, we a used to ask my mom how she milked the bird when we were kids. It’s funny to see your comments on something so dear to us. My husband was American and he loved this food, he used to tell me that is nothing sweeter than to see me cooking Romanian food in Texas. You're right when you said that they must've cooked it for a long time. In Romania, if you want to cook something traditional or a little elaborate , it takes a heck of a lot of time and patience.
That sort of Cluj-Napoca cabbage is some sort of what we call "varză călită" I think you can translate it to roasted cabbage, usually made with fried/roasted meat or bacon. That one is quite fancily arranged, I may say.

The pie you ate at the beginning, that's how pie -> placinta [plu-chin-tha] normally looks to us. But I never ate apple pie, it's kind of unusual just like nuttela pie, but each to their own. If you ever visit again Romania you should try placinta again but with potatoes, or ham & cheese or cheese and dill or (pickled) cabbage, with sour cream and maybe garlic sauce.
You ate the eggplant salad correctly, or at least that's how me and the people I know eat it. Usually the eggplant salad has onion minced inside.
Cluj Cabbage has pork minced meat, cabbage and sour cream. It's very close to stuffed cabbage ('sarmale'), some people including myself like to eat sarmale with sour cream.
The floating islands dessert name translated literally from romanian is bird milk.

2:21 That’s not how we actually make apple pie. You ate a cheap version of it from a pastry aka baked products. Search ,,Romanian apple pie” to see how we do it.
And for 1:45, the fact that you left after just 10 minutes is kinda rude because here if the restaurant is kinda crowded and the employees are few is hard to serve you right away. And you can always ask for a waiter/waitress if they don’t seem to see you. Please just be patient, understanding and respectful and you will have a great time ❤️ Hope you will return someday cuz we really have good food.

Guys, as you noticed Romanian food is very very heavy, so that's why Romanians eat a lot of bread🍞🥖 with every dish😁. If you eat many of those fatty foods on their own without any bread like you seem to do, they will just feel too heavy even for a Romanian. 👌nice job you're doing, I've been to Canada and loved foods like poutine, savoury crèpes and I'd always go for a Canadian breakfast.

Hello, I liked your videos from Romania, this one is on my city and I was thinking to give you more information about what exactly you eaten. That cabbage is some dish traditional from Cluj Napoca and just there you can actually really eat and be good. Lots of people saying is something like that cabbage tools and they try to do it but is actually not supposed to taste the same so this is why you found it different. Is some similarity between but not the same, and is with pork meat.🐖 The desert you eat and you like is supposed to be how you eat in Cluj not like in Bucharest, and the best version is with blueberry jam and yes is soure cream, and the cow cheese is inside of the dough. That big rolls desert you eat in Brașov is actually a Hungarian desert and it didn't really look good, you should have another one in Cluj-Napoca, we make it better, I hope you like România 😁 and our food.

The Hungarian cuisine is very good, especially in the fashion of the Székelys

i think that is plum gem (majun) . You forget to tase palinca :) ( it more likely works with the traditional cooked meat and cheese and sausages) - i can't believe you missed maramures food.

Well, there are 3 type of Papanasi, boiled ones, fried ones and baked ones.
The fried ones are a little more difficult to make, you need to find the perfect balance between flour and cow fresh cheese. You need to put it in the fridge to rest...there are a lots of tips and tricks you have to do to prepare papanasi, if not papanasi will be like rubber.
And you didn't tried dumpling with plums...or coliva (this is a cake that is made at the funerals or religious holidays, with barley, raisins, walnuts, biscuit and sugar)

That pie you tried first has a standard dough to say so.They fill it after with cooked cabbage, cheese, meat,or something sweet.thats why it doesn t taste like cinamon and is not sweet..For the pie you have with apple we have our own, called apple cake and has cinamon insides.
I agree with you,out of all our food I miss papanasi the most since I dont live in Romania atm.Im home now and I want papanasi so bad and everywhere i know they are good is closed due to this pandemic😪

Guys, I'm just posting this comment again which I did in your vlog of April 14. If you are still in the country, that's a great decision especially in terms of finance $7K airfare that's insane! That amount will go a long way here in the Phils. If I may suggest, if you've decided to do vlogging as your career for the next while, you can have the Phils as your homebase just like a number of foreign vloggers and just travel around the country or within Asia. Don't hesitate to negotiate a good rate for renting a place where it's safe and accessible to everywhere, or, if you have already Filipino friends, ask for their assistance to help you find a good and affordable place to rent. You can easily gain a lot of subscribers from here and once the quarantine is lifted, arrange for meetups with your subscribers so they in turn can invite their friends and families to be your subscribers. Our country is very rich in culture and each province have a unique culture, special foods, etc. Connect with each province's Tourism Office so you get assisted for the right places to see and in turn you build your right network. Stay safe and enjoy our country. GOD BLESS!

Thanks Elma... we're still here in the PH and we don't think we're leaving here soon 😃As much as we love the Philippines we don't just want to be vloggers within this one country. We have a passion to see the whole world. We do absolutely adore this country though ... more PH vlogs soon! - Anna
