    I'm a 6 month white belt.
I'm 40 years old and fairly fit in comparison to others my same age.. , 185cm 80kgs, but ive been getting smashed by younger and heavier players.
Ive been really drilling all the content of this video for the past months straight and today in live rolling, nobody was able to pass my guard or submit me and ive got my first real technical sub in, against this big 18 year old wrestler kid, thats been just smashing me when we train.
Felt pretty good , I feel pretty good about my self and eager to learn more jiujitsu now, but just wanted to show you my appreciation.

Great stuff, thank you! Getting smashed is a fairly regular part of my life as a no-stripe white belt 😅. I appreciate how you get to the point and very clearly explain critical principles and details in this video, not to mention all of your others.

Jordan explained that you should use T-Rex arms and always be on your side, defending underhooks and your head, and when he showed the Rolling Footage I found really interesting that, instead of showing you in the bottom, you're actually narrating in the Passer's point of view! Really cool and I guess it's easier when you know what your opponent is thinking to get to know what you should do. Good work, Jordan, appreciate it alot!

    • @JordanTeachesJiujitsu

It's definitely a risk if your don't get your shoulders past the legs. It's them countering your counter. Tough position to escape for sure. Can't let them get there. Gotta get your shoulders in front of the legs otherwise it's like giving them a high guard or top lock like some people call it :)

One thing that has helped me : I kept showing up.
Cliche as it may be as you show up more you’ll learn that getting “smashed” is part of BJJ and that one might as well embrace it.
Show up learn some techniques, master the concepts and in few months you’ll be putting it all together.
A tip for new students : Focus drilling all the small basic movements like bridging, shrimping, shoulder walks ect…and learn to put them together . Don’t worry about the submissions for now . The focus is learning to move around on the mats .

I've been showing up 4-5 times per week for 7 months. I adopted the just keep showing up mentality week 1 and it just occurred to me this week that I don't think I've ever swept anyone let alone submitted them. I'm the smallest guy in the gym by 60lbs so that might have something to do with it? Idk. Somehow I still have fun but I'm wondering how long does it normally take to at least be able to not be underneath everyone I roll with. I think I'm like BJJ stupid or something

@@davidmiller-zf8zl Everybody’s different and that’s the cool thing about Jiu Jitsu. Everyone develops their own style of it and as you continue to train and roll with them, you’ll start developing your own that’s unique and fits with the mechanic of your own body .
The time of one’s progression ranges so I can’t put a time stamp on it. But you’re close if you’re still having fun even though you’re mounted . That shows that you’re comfortable in tough position, which is key!

I have a suggestion for you. You should do a video or a playlist of what a white belt needs to know to get a blue belt as soon as possible from the beginning to the end. Apart from that you should do a video with drills that will make a white-belt more flexible.

I love how when they roll, it's very flow rolling, working on technique and constantly transitioning to different positions. At my gym there's so much ego, everyone is just trying to smash each other, muscle through everything, you end up learning nothing and don't get the opportunity to try techniques. I personally don't get it, I'm there to learn, not brawl with everyone.
