Honestly, Palpatine in TROS is literally creepy and spooky in the movie that he's the embodiment of the Devil himself as he always been. Ian Mcdiarmid was born to play The Emperor.

Love the look of Exegol, it’s so lifeless and dark. It’s like the 9th circle of hell from Dante’s Inferno.
Great comparison. I watched an insane animation of that last year. So intense.
That may have been what they were going for. The Ninth Circle was described in Dante's Inferno as dark and cold because it was so far from God's light, and like Dante, Kylo Ren had to go through there before before he could ascend.
I'm kinda torn it. On one hand, I love that unique aesthetic and the fact that we can see so little adds to the creep factor (and Palpatine might look more silly than scary otherwise), but on the other hand I wanted a clear look of the structures and the arquitecture.
I wonder how Disney’s going to handle the story post episode nine. They’ve been really quiet about that.
Rogue squadron is gonna be post tros
They are probably going to show us stories of Rey training the new Jedi Order. And there is a possibility that Rogue Squadron is post-TROS. I wouldn't mind if they continued the war against the First Order.
They're probably afraid of being eaten alive by the nasty fans. I'm looking forward to post TROS stuff like Rey's new order, but a lot of people will be mad if we see that stuff anytime soon
@@evanshade19 i’ll be honest I’m just hoping that they revive the Skywalker bloodline. If they don’t I’m not gonna support the sequel trilogy or anything that happens afterwards. I’m not saying that with any anger. I just can’t see Star Wars without the Skywalker family. And Rey definitely doesn’t replace them.
@@evanshade19 I really hope they will still do it. I can't wait to see Daisy again. Also I think now that they announced all of these different Disney+ series, there is enough content fans can watch even if they don't like the Rey stuff. But we all know they will complain again. Until the next big trilogy is released and everyone all of a sudden loves the Sequels 😅

God, I love concept art and TROS’ is no exception. I adore Sith iconography and aesthetics.
I also completely agree with the inverse parallels with Ahch-To and Exegol. Ahch-To and the temple are integrated into the nature and land to be as environmental friendly as possible and in-touch with nature. Exegol‘s temple is purposely stuck out from the ground and it has no life or nature around it.
I understand why many hate TROS but, honestly, I love it just as much as TLJ.

Concept art is always bitter sweet cause it always looks so good and so much better than the actual movie
Because concept art doesn't need a budget, a production, a script, and everything else that makes up a film.
It was a clever decision, they labled the films skywalker era, and are willing to move on. They probably understand that they'll really have much more freedom of storytelling if they don't mess with the original story.
There are a lot of things they did very wrong with it, and Darth Sidious should've remained dead and maybe Darth Plagueis should take his place and maybe, just maybe it could've been rather good as a Star Wars movie. J. J. Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy once again fails to deliver as the result.
Exegol did originally have an orange sunset/sunrise colour scheme. It's shown in the few images in the Art Of book and in the very first TROS teaser you see a brief shot of an A-wing being shot down over the original version of Exegol.
Yea just learned that today. Pretty interesting. I just wish bespin was more than an insert.
It's really awesome to see how much thought and work went into designing Exegol. Honestly, I was super disappointed when this stuff wasn't featured in the art book. Kudos to ILM!
In the first teaser for TROS there are a couple of frames where you can see the battle of exogol but its at like dusk
Alongside some other concept art and the scene where everyone leaves the planet it seems the battle was gonna reach day and become more orange
Yea it seems there was a color change or at least a longer battle

Ryan Church is the best conceptual artist working at ILM/Lucasfilm.
Anybody even remotely interested in this kind of stuff should definitely check out his online portfolio on his personal website, where his concept art is showcased going back to when he was working on the prequels, and everything since.
Most of the Planet, environment, and ship designs we all associate with Star Wars in the last 20 years came directly from his, and Doug Chiang's, imagination. 👍
The first piece of concept art of Exegol that was seen in the vid reminds me of the multiple Sith temples seen on Korriban/Moraband from The Clone Wars and The Old Republic game.
That wasn’t Bane it was Malak also Nihilus was on the Sith thing with Revan
These photos as I am looking through them right look quite ominous like it's a horror film instead of a space fantasy
They should make comics of how Palpatine was cloned and now Lando gathered all the people together in the Battle of Exegol
I think we were going to get that in comics but they cancelled the TROS run. 😐

You could always make a series where you delve into the concept art and unused ideas of the Star Wars movies, that’d be a pretty cool series in my opinion.

Not sure if anybody had pointed this out but at 2:10 one of the figures on the Exegol wall carving above Revan and Malak looks exactly like Darth Nihilus. I wonder if that was just a placeholder from some artist who is a fan of the KOTOR games or if they were seriously considering making both games canon.

Look, I had a lot of issues with TROS, but damn, it had some cool aspects and if they went a little more in depth, it could have really improved the overall movie. So many of these designs should have been in the movie. If the final cut was 30 to 45 minutes longer, I dont think anyone would be complaining. The movie should have slowed down and shown us a lot more of these amazing designs. The artists behind all of these pieces dont get enough credit!
I still thing that zombified Palpatine and his giant army of Sith cultists from the Unknown Regions are some of the conceptually coolest things in Star Wars, ever, but it needed to be the main point of all three movies to work, not just the last one.
Kinda reminds me of the Yuuzhan Vong, this big threat from outside of the known galaxy that forces everyone on it to work together. I'd even say the "Sith Eternal" are even cooler than those guys.

Unpopular opinion but I loved all the dark sith stuff and Palpatine in the movie and wish we could’ve seen more cuz Palpatine is my favorite Star Wars villain. But I wasn’t really blown away when that galaxy fleet arrived cuz there was really no build up to it and it was literally shown to us months before the movie in the 2nd trailer like REALLY
I believe that Exegol was originally a more orangey colour... I think Phil Szostak tweeted something about it a few months ago.

U know it's odd....as messy the rise of skywalker is ...I can't take myself to hate it. I love TFA and TLJ....TROS went in a odd way but for some reason I found it more satisfying and more fun of an ending compared to Return of the Jedi....it's probably the most star warsiest star wars movie😂
I did not like this film on release but for some reason on a rewatch this week I had a good time with it. A couple of poor decisions still bring the experience down but overall a better film than I remembered.
It’s a disappointment this art work isn’t in the ‘Art Of’ book.
02:14 the Sith lords you can make out are Malak, not Bane, Darth Revan, and above in the middle Darth Nihilus.
03:42 that is definitely reminiscent of Darth Malak without his mouth piece.
The fact that they were trying to push all that in the movie makes me think that sooner or later we will have Revan and Malak back in canon.
I thought they already were based on the TROS visual dictionary? But yea, looked like Malgus to me on second glance but cant tell. I trust ya!
Palpatine is both one of the best parts of the movie but also its biggest crutch. I'm glad we at least got to see Ian McDiarmid rock the role again in live action, probably for the last time.
Also, no Star Wars movie has never been made without passion or love, even if the end result is less than stellar, its 11 movies, several shows and hundreds of books made by passionate artists and filmmakers.

I will be forever upset by how poor the sequels were. The casting, character design, and visuals were all awesome. But man the movies were just a complete jumbled mess with no meaningful storytelling or character development. Silver lining, it really showed us all how underappreciated the prequels were.
7 and 8 were amazing to me. Im from the OT gen, with that said TROS is kind of a tragedy.
There are so many cool ideas here, it's a shame we didn't see any in T.R.A.S.H.

The girls are hard at work organizing the decor (And where to put them) The men just came back from getting the tree and putting it in the car was a bit of a crisis because they had to make room and someone had to lay on the floor in the car. It was that big. At least one adult keeps Grogu busy. Ben takes a moment to sit down finally he groans in pain from the physical labor, and Rey massages his shoulders and back. Rey: Had fun? Ben: Getting a tree with these two yahoos is the equivalent of listening to a comedy act. (Laughing) They'll find anything to scream at each other about. Worth all of that for this. (Wink) (As everyone continues door knocks clearly they weren't expecting anyone but probably should answer. Ben insists on getting up tell everyone to stay where they are. Ben approaches door looks but can't get a clear view so peeks at the side window and couldn't believe who was there. Hux? Looks a bit lost and very cold briefly steps outside to see him. Everyone is waiting and a bit worried and confused then door opens again this time with Ben helping Hux in. Everyone is about to gasp but...) Ben: Don't it's ok. But he needs to get warm now. (He's half covered in snow and looks frozen and everyone goes over to go do what they need to help. Putting their own feelings to the side. Rose forgetting whatever anger or thoughts of detest she's had towards him in the past looks the most worried not liking to see anyone go through a rough time says.) Rose: You look really bad. Do you want us to take you to a hospital? Hux: No it's fine. I'm fine, I promise. Rey: Just give it to us straight what are you doing here? How did you find our house? I really don't wanna come down hard I feel bad that you're freezing like an icicle right now but please answer honestly why are you here? You wanna talk to him? In our house. (At Ben) You have beef with my husband that you want hash out with? Or looking to get even with one of us. I will not have anything hashed out violently or any other bullshit in our house. And not with a child present too. Grogu: (Being held by Connix) Mmm. Hux: I did want to talk to him, but it wasn't until he helped me into the house and decided to not have me freeze my ass off and collect myself I realized I think all of you should hear. Much time has passed since we were all in the third movie together. Things have felt weird haven't they. Not quite the same... different. Um... Rey: (Sighs) Ben: Hun? Listen. Hux: I wasn't really good to any of you was I. I.....I....I think I owe you deserve an apology and that...I really...there's a lot running through my head but I just don't know what else because it's....it's.... Rose: Well you did start off by saying sorry and that you know you let Ben help you in the house when he could have punched you or something. Hux: Uh-huh. Look I'm not looking to make excuses for whatever I've done or said all I want to say after letting enough time go by and thinking about how I've really been in this whole thing...I.....just wanted to.... Ben: (Walks over to Hux and puts a hand on his shoulder.) Hey. Look over at me. Hux: (Turns to face him.) Ben: Look me in the eyes dude. I'm intending to get real with you for the first time and not just talk to you as a formal co-worker...or boss. Remember? I scared you didn't I. Hux: No, but I didn't like the way you spoke to me half the time. Ben: I know. You're right. I was a real jack ass back then to everyone and you and...(Looks over at Rey) And her. I didn't always treat her the way she would like to be treated either. (Looks back at Hux) I was just as bad to everyone as you were and you were just as mistreated all your life as me. And when I saw you outside, I didn't think of that. I just saw you as everyone should see you...a person. And everyone pitched in to get your ass in the house and making sure you are ok. People showing kindness even to someone that....we've all had a bad experience at one point with ourselves and to each other. And all I want to say before you continue is that.... (Puts a hand on his shoulder) It's ok. Its all right. (Moves hand on his arm.) It's all right. (Let's go but then holds out his hand to shake. Everyone waits around seeing what will happen then after a minute or so Hux finally starts to stand up still limping a bit from freezing but begins to offer his hand and shakes Ben's with a smile. A genuine smile. Everyone else sees this and does a little clap. Turns around at Rose and shakes her hand.) Hux: Thank you for being nice even though I... Rose: Be kind to yourself. Hux: Yes. Thank you. (Connix brings over Grogu) Hi. (Then sees Rey approach.) Rey: I'm sorry for before. Hux: (Puts both of his hands together to shake her hand and pat on it like a proper English gentlemen.) Don't be. He ought to be lucky to have a strong woman like you sticking up for him that way. Rey: (Laughs) I seem to get that all the time. The 'strong woman' comment I mean. Ben: Because it's true.
