from the bottom of my heart i'm glad you post videos and post deals on adorama i have many godox lights now and i def love all of them. Your work is top notch to so thank you for your contributions to the photography space.
Thank you for the kindness! Made my day.😊
Hey Francisco, I'm gonna have a different video of yours play on Loop each and every night right before I go to bed to see if that boosts the algorithm in your favor.
You provide a great service to us all and deserve a bigger audience. 😎👌
im using godox too.. have V1 & two AD200pro.. really loves their product. affordable & giving best results.
Nice! The 200 is so powerful yet small.😊
This man gives great advice, listen to him. =)
Thank for sharing!
Great video, as always Francisco! Do you have any BTS using the AD300 and SMDV 20" combo?
Thank you so much for your videos. They’re so amazing! I am currently just using Speed lights which of the many lights do you recommend? There seems to be about six or seven? So I’m not sure which to start with.
I am still with phottix Indra 360, phottix odin II , happy with it.
Great video! Godox/Flashpoint is the lights I use also! But I always wondered… Why don’t you have a website? Like maybe an Off Camera Flash website? I think that would be a great thing since you have 10+ years with using Off Camera Flash! ☺️🙌🏽 But yeah my favorite combo is the Flashpoint XPLOR 300 Pro with the 44” Glow Parasnap! 😁
I have a secret one for learning off camera but meant to do more work on it before sharing. Maybe this year I'll do that.😊
awesome video!! do you think the 20" is good for a half body portrait or might it be too small?
Half body portraits would be fine enough.😊
Great video! So do you use the SMDV 20" Beauty over the SMDV 24" Beauty Dish For Strobe because of the mounts? The 24" being heavier with the Bowens mount? Look at the 20" to pair with my Stella Reflex S but unsure of which mount to order with it? I have a modifier bracket for the Stella to us Bowens Mount but hoping to keep it lighter with the SMDV 20". Any suggestions on what to pair with the Stella and SMDV? I also have an AD200 but your video has made me consider getting the AD300 and just pairing the 20" when traveling. But I do like how light the Stella Reflex S is for travel - but would like a better travel modifier for when I have to shoot auditions self-tapes so would like to find the right modifier to pair with it, as well as have the hybrid capabilities to shoot strobe photography while traveling. Oof - that was a ramble!
Great question. I honestly don't know how big that SMDV 24" for Strobe is so it's hard to say if it's similar in size to my 24" Flip SpeedBox, but that would probably be the best softbox option for you considering the Stella Lights are going to have a much brighter continuous light than the 200 and 300 Pro lights which would help with those audition self-tapes.
I am pretty positive the Stella lights use Elinchrom mount so getting that softbox with that mount (Elinchrom) would eliminate the Bowens mount adapter for you. And if you ever need to use your AD200 with that softbox for whatever reason maybe getting the Bowens mount too and combining the 200 to the SMDV 24" for Strobe using a S bracket could help there. But then you'd have to carry the S bracket too. Tricky situation for sure.
I think final answer for me is you getting that SMDV 24" for Strobe w/ Elinchrom mount.
Thank you@@fjhphoto , this is insightful for sure! Sorry I actually meant the new SMDV Flip 24" Beauty Dish for strobe - which comes with the Bowens Mount. Not the 24" Flip Speedbox. But that one is actually on sale! But the Beauty Dish could be great. I'm almost temped to get both Beauty Dishes now. I have the bowens mount adapter for the 24" Flip Beauty Dish (which comes with Bowens mount). But that Godox mount is pretty awesome so I'm tempted to also get the Speedbox Flip20 G for Speedlite Flash with the 24" Flip Beauty Dish and be setup for both my Stella Reflex and my AD200 or V860 ii ... very exciting. I'll be in the US so can skip the $60 shipping fee next week!
Flip20/AD100 my fav at the moment ❤
Excellent combo! Not sure why I forgot to mention that setup. It's awesome!🔥
Hey , i dont see anyone on youtube more likely to do a comparison review then u can do it, its a bout the continous hi powered rgb cob lights,i mean the hi powered ones, like the one from aputure 300,colbor 220, trolifo 180 and the godox 300 , aplicable in studio lighting with softboxes, direct light, used combined with flash, used with gobos and other things,it whold be a great video from a great creator
I started using Godox because they were budget friendly, until I had an issue with an AD300. I believe you mentioned in a past video that Adorama's version (Flashpoint) is back with their warranty, so I purchased their version of the AD300, and subsequently all other lights, to have that piece of mind. Great video. Keep up the good work! You don't have a link for the SMDV 20 Flip. I tried a couple of sites, but couldn't find it. Can you provide a link for it? Thanks.
I linked the SMDV beauty dish in the description but it's only available directly on their site as far as I know. B&H has the angler FastBox which is a rebrand of the SMDV modifiers but don't believe they have the beauty dish yet.
@@fjhphoto, maybe it's just me, but I don't see it in the description.🙃 I'll try to find it. Thanks!
Sorry about that. Uploaded several videos yesterday and got confused with another video's description. This is it:
SMDV 20" Beauty Dish: geni.us/g5Ddc
I wish if Godox would design new AD-S7 modifiers for AD 200pro bulb head, I don't like to carry S bracket !!
I agree!😊
Recently been viewing topics on the GodoxAd600pro's battery and how it has charging issue and people have to open it and reset and jumpstart the battery...have you personally had an issue like this with a Godoxad600/FlashpointXplor600?...thank you..
I've seen this every now and then too but I'm not sure how it gets to that point. I've had almost every single Godox light and never had to do anything like that. And I don't really baby my lights either. If I had to jumpstart a battery when I'm not a handy guy at all then I would be disappointed. Thankfully that's never been an issue for me.
@@fjhphoto oh ok..thanks for the reply..because I am still interested into looking to grab a Godox Ad600pro..but this battery charging issue kind of worried me..and might lean into the Flashpoint equivalent haha
Oh yes, if possible definitely get the Flashpoint equivalent. Better warranty should anything ever happen to the light. Adorama tends to just replace your light no questions asked if something happens.
Paul c buff is still in business ?
Hey do u have fj80 ii M speedlight? Does it work for Nikon z5 mirrorless?
Can I trigger a flashpoint flash with a godox xpro trigger?
Yup! I do this all the time.
Bro, I did a shoot the other day and had the weirdest results. I set my aperture to a setting that would not blow out the highlights then set my flash to a normal setting and took the shot; the result was everything was blown out "Everything" so I turned off my flash and tried and the shot was fine but the people dark "They were under a gazebo" .....so why would the flash cause everything to blow out when I used the flash under the gazebo but when turned it off look normal other than the subjects being too dark under the gazbo?..... got any clues?
It's waaay past my bedtime and my heart is begging me to take a break, so forgive me if I missed a thing or two regarding your conundrum. 🙂👍
First thing that comes to mind is:
Perhaps your ISO was set to Automatic... you see, if you set your shutter and aperture to not overexpose your subject yet left your ISO on Automatic, your camera might've then tried to compensate by raising the ISO to which then your flash overexposed the subject.
Basically, your camera might've told your flash to blast the composition with lots of light.
Plus, where you on TTTL flash mode?
That could've been another contributing variable to your overexposed image.
Try this next time:
If you're going for Francisco's technique...
Use Manual everything.
If shooting during daytime...
Use a low ISO (100 for example).
Expose for the background so the highlights do not blow out.
Set your flash to half its power.
Take your photo.
Analyse the result.
Then adjust the flash power from there depending on the resulting image; either adjust for more or less power from your flash unit in 1-Stop increments depending on what your particular vision/look requires.
For example, let's say your flash unit's half power setting is 1/16th power.
Take photo.
If your resulting image is still too dark, increase the power by one stop (from 1/16th to 1/8th for more light), or inversely, if it's too bright, decrease the power by one stop in the opposite direction (from 1/16th to 1/32nd for less light).
Hope that helps.
Off to bed I go. 🛌
Angler makes some similar fast boxes
Yup, they got the design from SMDV. I actually have the 24" angler FastBox but SMDV comes out with the newer stuff first like the 20" beauty dish so I order from them directly.
I'm using Godox AD400 but their Godox mount modifier are very limited. (Godox AD-S60S, AD-S65S & AD-S85S) Converting Bowens mount modifiers to Godox mount will not give you weight/size advantage.
That's why I use the SMDV softboxes specifically with the 300 Pro. The size difference from the 400 to the 300 is pretty big which is why I highly recommend the 300 for anyone needing that extra portability. Those SMDV softboxes with the 300 are crazy fast and easy to use.
When building a lighting eco system, it’s important to think of modifiers as part of the system. SMVD modifiers work so well with Godox equipment. I have a full studio of parasnap modifiers, and am started to collect the SmVD flips for run and gun. They even released an adapter to use the flip magnetic adapter with the larger parasnap modifiers. The adapters are finally getting to the point where everything works together. It’s wonderful. And cheap when you compare it to wescott and profoto.
Because Nikon changed the way their cameras fire flashes, everything I own is incompatible insofar as TTL is concerned. I do not believe they had to do that to their loyal customers with legacy flash units or 3rd party radio controlled flash units. That plus not incorporating a screw drive in an FTZ adapter has prevented me from updating to the Z system. The cost/benefit just doesn't make sense and never will.
So you're stuck to using manual power only? I imagine for events it can be challenging.
@fjhphoto I just stick with D7200/ D800 and use the lights I have on TTL
I think photos with flash always are the same and color looks so unreal, but is my preference.
Then you use it wrong or follow the wrong people / style.
@@WahidFayumzadah I don't think so, I been doing weddings for like 7 years and I only use flash for dark places and create color lights
I agree. There's so many styles out there. I try to only follow photographers who use off camera flash on Instagram and see so many styles.
First! 🤯🤯🤯
Thank you!😊
The biggest mistake Godox made when designing their battery line was NOT making them a standard voltage like power tools. Imagine being able to grab a battery from the AD600 and use it on the AD400 for additional runtime. A common mount and voltage would also encourage people to move up or down in the Godox lineup without also having to buy all new different batteries and chargers.
I would leave that up to the more expensive brands to do that. Godox being more affordable means you can just buy extra batteries OR the AC adapter for the 400 or 600 if in the studio.
For me personally I've never needed an additional battery for those lights except when I shoot past 1.5 hours with the modeling lamp on full like I do every once in a while for my night shoots.
wish to see ad200 as ad300/ ad100
Not sure what you mean?
@@fjhphoto sorry, I mean, I believe it's time to create AD200 in a shape of ad100/300
I like the ad200 shape, or maybe it’s the versatility I like. Being able to change the heads, or ad an extension head make it better than the 100-300 in some cases. I don’t need all my lights to be soda cans.
video with it in use would be so cool
I have several videos on my instagram showing it in use, but I'll upload those videos tomorrow morning as Shorts here on my channel.
Is it just me or is anyone else getting a lot of misfires with Godox? It's so annoying that I'm thinking of switching to Westcott 😡
Any light can misfire. It highly depends on how you use it. Might just make a video showing every brand misfiring just because of this comment.🤣
@@fjhphoto If you made that video I’d watch it! But all jokes aside I did a shoot last Saturday and at the end of the shoot the AD300 was misfiring every other shot at fairly low power.
@DigitalMind63 I've been experiencing the same issue with one of my 300's, constant misfires. It was working fine a few months ago. I have a few Flashpoint/Godox lights, and I'm thinking about selling them and jumping into an Elinchrom or Prophoto lighting system.
@@ndrr13you’d be wasting your money. The Elinchrom lights are overpriced and there's pros and cons to that system you should look into. And profoto is just overpriced and not worth it.
Message adorama and see if they'll replace your light if you still have issues with it. I've had my 300 since it came out and it's still going strong even after a nasty fall.
@@DIGITALMIND63it could be the overheating protection kicked in to avoid messing up the battery. A spare battery could help in that instance. Take "hot" battery out, pop in "cold" battery and you're good to go.
I have 2 ad200s the AD-B2 unit incase I need 400w of power and V860ii speedlight. they all work perfectly with my Nikond750 with The Xpro trigger
That's a great set of lights! I would love to see Godox make a AD-B2 for the 300 Pros to make a 600W strobe. But it's honestly asking for too much since they have a lot of great strobes already.😊
Profoto will make something similar and charge $1200 for it lol
Yup! They did this with their portable softboxes. SMDV had them first and then out of nowhere Profoto came out with theirs. Main difference is you can't change the mount on the Profoto version.
Right now the SMDV softbox I showed in this video is $159.95. I'm positive Profoto is gonna eventually release their own copy of it (they don't currently have 20" clic softboxes - only 24" and up), but the price is more than likely gonna be $300-$400+.
@@fjhphoto I think profoto came out with their version of a ad100 and it was a arm and a leg
@@gmphotography7165oh yeah, I saw that when it happened. Used that light and it wasn't anything too special especially for the massive price increase.🙃
My understanding is SMVD makes angler, profoto, and parasnap. They are all just slightly redesigned and rebranded.
I think photos with flash always are the same and color looks so unreal, but is my preference.
That's highly dependent on the photographer and even their editing. So it's painting a broad brush when there's lots of different styles.
