    Hey guys, to address the comments about my hands moving around while trying to show a comparison of the replacement sticks/buttons vs the original set up-close, I apologize for the inconvenience and difficulty in viewing. I am well aware of this now and it will not be a problem in future videos. For anyone interested, I linked a video of the comparison up-close with no shaking for anyone to see. The link is in the desc. as well as here:

    Thank you for the feedback!

      Hey, so I bought these buttons and tried them out, but there's some things I noticed. Not all control sticks click throughout since they kind of run up against the bottom-right hand side. Also, the c on the c-sticks are backwards. I don't think I installed them wrong, but just thought I'd let you know about my experience.

      I had to put some paper into the shaft of the directional stick (not c stick) to raise it up. Once you do that your golden. Feels just like original sticks

    So here's an update in regards to the z button for everyone watching. You can make it fit by making some incisions and cuts to the trigger. It'll be difficult to describe in text but I'll be making my own video providing a how-to on modifying the trigger to fit a oem shell.

    Great video but if i may offer some constructive criticism, when doing the top down view of the controller or buttons, try to move your hands less when you talk it makes it a bit harder to look closely or compare two things you're holding. I totally understand the habit but it was a small thing i noticed and i figured id share. Once again great video as usual. Peace :)

    If anyone has any issues with the Control Stick going up against the top shell cause it sits in the controller too low, get a tiny wad of paper and stick it in the hole of the control stick to get it to a height where it doesn't rub against the shell and makes it work better. (Not sure if everyone has that issue but my set did)

    hey man! its really good to see you back on the helm of content. ive been waiting for someone to officially review these buttons. ive had several sets and they're all good.
    i should use this as an opportunity to say, just for whoever doesnt know, that the seller multishine designs is known for reselling these button sets, so it's good to see people like you pointing people in the right direction.
    can i ask if youre also in the custom gamecube controller discord? it has such a wealth of information for anybody who wants to know this stuff like i did
    thank you man, keep up the good content

    • @kinolangley8937
      @kinolangley8937 6 років тому

      i should rephrase what i said. MSD resells these buttons for 10 bucks, with their sticks separate at another 10 bucks. so thats about 20 bucks for what they cost at normal prices.

    • @zenithSSBM
      @zenithSSBM  6 років тому +1

      yo! thanks for the kind words and I am in the discord youre right theres so much information there I love it. Also that messed up like they just completely resell the buttons at an inflated price?

    • @kinolangley8937
      @kinolangley8937 6 років тому

      yeah, right now the site he has says "resin cast buttons will be up in late may", but its mainly that he doesnt make the buttons at all.
      theyre often called alibaba buttons because theyre often gotten from chinese sellers from the site aliexpress, which im assuming was once called alibaba. many people such as kadano or others have ordered their sets in bulk from there with sticks included for customization purposes such as like what you and others have done.
      you can tell theyre 1:1 just these button sets as theyre just as flat all around.

      also, what about the difference between tall and short buttons? does that matter?

    • @zenithSSBM
      @zenithSSBM  6 років тому

      depends on what height of button pad you have. (short pad+short buttons will be too loose and tall pad+tall buttons will be too tight) the buttons on Battle Beaver's site gives a more lengthy explanation but unless its a super old controller it probably has a tall button pad and needs short buttons!

    • @LightCave02

      zenith SSBM are the buttons from China short or tall buttons?

    • @zenithSSBM

      short so they will work with tall buttons pads (which basically every controller has)

  • @WhoMightThis1Be

    Be careful with sticks, i ordered a lot of similar products and i found there is a much too high chance that sticks come with 1 of 2 flaws
    1: the hole on the bottom is too deep so they actually get too low and the rubber part might touch you shell if you hold it into a direction, you can fix that by putting something like a small piece of aluminium foil into the hole
    2: the sticks are just too short, not really away of fixing that they just suck.
    Generally i found the rubber doesn't last as logn as original sticks but it seems like not everyone had that problem.
    Z buttons always suck sadly

    so idk if the quality control on these things are just wack but my experience with these buttons are nowhere near the praise i keep seeing here.
    my analog triggers could not register analog inputs, making l cancelling and light shielding impossible or more difficult.
    the analog stick was too short, and ended up rubbing against the gates of the controller (also, was a BITCH to take off of the stick box. be careful, because they are extremely hard to pull off.)
    the C-stick ends up getting stuck in certain positions which clearly is unacceptable.
    the Z Button still won't fit but that's just consistent with every order.
    All of the face buttons on the other hand work perfectly, and i use them for my controller. the D pad is a little mushy (it's a gamecube d pad though so who really cares) and the start button also feels somewhat strange, but is perfectly fine. Basically only half of the buttons sent to me are actually usable.
    This is just a warning to everyone else who decided to order a pair of these based on this video, be careful with these buttons because they may not be as functional as they seem. just make sure whoever you buy it from is selling them for extremely cheap so you aren't losing much.

    Fellow Controller Modder:
    Hello there to anyone who has these cheap Chinese buttons, There are fixes to these castings. The Z Button all you gotta do is use flush cutters and snip off the long peg and make a small slope from the bottom so it works normal. For the Analog stick put a small piece of hot glue and it will not rub up on the edge of the controller shell.

    I really wish there was a tall domed thumbstick I put a tall domed scuf stick on a switch controller and had way more control with small adjustments and movement it also flicked and was just as fast or faster for sprinting and dancing but the tall stick allows precision small movement and easier tilt control.

    I bought a red set just about 7 months ago, though they were way more expensive, but i can tell they are the exact same because of the Z button hahaha. The only gripe i have with these is the rubber used on the sticks, they feel great for 2 weeks, then they start to peel away. Not right away, but over like 3 months the rubber started to rub off like red dust, kinda weird tbh. I ended up swapping back to the original grey stock stick. I would still recommend for the buttons and triggers though :D

      interesting, I am using the black set on one of my controllers and i have not experienced the rub off. although i use that controller for playing old gamecube games - not melee so not dashdancing or moving around all the time definitely factors into that!

  • @coolguy02536
    @coolguy02536 5 років тому

    You really do have to be careful with Ebay and GC controllers. For such a good controller, it's amazing how many you'll go through, new or used, that are faulty, or become faulty very quickly. Of the 4 or so purchased controllers I went through upon needing a new one, one was a generic 3rd party factory that was not only faulty, but glued together along with the screws to prevent people from trying to open it up and solve the issue...cryptic.
    While there have been some impressive 1st party controllers like Madcatz ,they always ended up with some buttons (ie A and Z) not properly working or getting stuck after not that long of a lifespan. Sadly it's just not something meant to last forever.

    My z button didn't fit either. Not only that, my c stick would grind against the shell, and the a button is super wiggly. And I ordered a white button set

    I have a set of these and I got 2 x-buttons, no y-button, and my c-stick gets stuck sometimes. I kept the x and y buttons in with the red a and b and it actually looks good so I’ll ignore that, but is there any way for me to fix the stick?

    okay so idk if that happened to anyone else, but i ordered those cheap buttons from china but when i play they make some kind of white powder. (especially the joysticks) I think they might not be sturdy enough for actual use. (i only used them once)

    so wait are these tall buttons or short buttons? i was a little confused at how you clarified it. you say it'll basically work with everything so should i not even worry about it?

    • @Ringating
      @Ringating 5 років тому

      he said they work with the newer controllers, so they should be short buttons

    • @zenithSSBM
      @zenithSSBM  5 років тому +1

      most buttons you will see are short buttons. there is a height difference between buttons produced for controllers with tall button pads and short button pads. (tall pad->short button/short pad->tall button) generally the controllers with tall buttons and short button pads are really old controllers though (all 'new' smash 4 and smash ultimate era gamecube controllers have short buttons and tall pads) so unless youre working with really old controllers you prob have short buttons. Battle Beaver's site explains this out more if my description isnt making sense. However I would advise to always open your controller and confirm what pad and buttons you have (its easy to tell by the pad the controller has) before buying anything)

    So I ordered these, and my C stick came out Upside down, like the rubber C was upside down, i had to force the C stick the correct way because of how OCD it would make me. Anyone else have that problem? or perhaps it was the person i bought it from, everything else was just like in the video

      I had this problem, as well as the Y button being molded incorrectly and the control stick was mushy and didn’t click at all

    • @benjaminrhee5556
      @benjaminrhee5556 6 років тому +1

      Yep, this happened to me too. When I put the C-stick on upside down anyway because I didn't care, it would also rub against the inside of the shell and literally not be able to snap back to center because it was too tight against the shell. I had to put on a normal C stick.

    I'd love a GameCube controller that has two Z buttons and clickable joysticks. With a USB cable not Wii or anything else. Also a start, guide and select button.

    Where can you find trigger springs? In my official gcc that was released for smash 4, my R button is starting to get stuck and I have to use my original gcc which I find slightly weird. I could just buy a $10 Cirka controller and take its springs, but I'm sure there is a cheaper alternative out there

    • @kinolangley8937
      @kinolangley8937 6 років тому

      Kizuna SSB if this is an issue id recommend taking the back off your old gcc with a triwing (theyre very cheap. on amazon u can get a set of 5 for like 3 bucks) and hooking it to your sm4sh motherboard and front. itll probably look slick as hell too by doing such!
      or if you like the full shell, take the springs out of your old controller and replace them from your old sm4sh back. that just needs a phillips head

  • @alexasbagel

    Couldn’t you do a video where you have 3 controllers one third party one cheap and one premium controller and then blindfold another guy and see if he can tell a difference?!
