How to properly join two vertices in an n-gon face in Blender.

- The Make Face operation is oft used in Blender, but in this particular circumstance it should be avoided. When dividing an n-gon face by joining two vertices, remember to use J and not F.

Wow wow thanks a million for showing me how to correct a horrible problem
Exactly what I needed. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Thank you I didn't know the difference between join and fill, have subbed
Thanks for this quick tip. For some reason this isn't working. I have a shrink wrap modifier on a retopology project I am working on, & this command just not working.
I am not sure why J is not joining two vertices to make an edge on an existing face. I sculpted a test object and then quickly retopologized a reduced mesh over it and the J command worked just fine for me. You could try reverting to factory settings (File>Load Factory Settings) and see if you are having the same problems. If it is working with factory settings then it is possible that you have found a bug. Of course it could always be PICNIC (Problem in Chair; Not in Computer) which is usually the case for me. Try searching/posting the question on Blender Stack Exchange with some pictures or a video to nail down an answer. Hope that helps.
+Bryson Jack much appreciated. i really like the PICNIC comment. Thats pretty much sums it up. I stepped away from my pc for a bit and tried a different approach. One more quick question. When modeling a bezier curve, how do you make it a solid object after beveling to the way you want. Like I dont need the anchors anymore. Thanks for your help!

If I understand your question, you would like to know how to finalize the Bevel Object that you have following your Bezier Curve. Simply select the Bevel Object and then press Alt+C to open the Convert To menu and choose Mesh from Curve/Meta/Surf/Text. You will see the Bevel Objects icon change from a curve to a mesh object in the Outliner and when you go to Edit Mode you will now see the Bevel Object is a editable mesh object. Take care, Bryson
Thank you very helpful
Thank you. This is short and easy
thank you sir
Awesome Voice!
Another great tip for handling faces. I screwed this up so much because I realized after adding a subsurf modifier it stood out horribly. Thanks again!
been having a hard time just understanding the problem i was having. ty
Thanks, this was great - love short and succinct nuggets of info
Thank you, thank you, thank you sir! I really appreciate your help. I am a freehand artist. I airbrush, I do portraits, & more. I had Blender for years. I update everytime. But now the UI is more pleasing to the eye, and the add-ons cut the learning curve (for me) I find myself spending more time with it. Sculptris is the other program I use infusion with Blender. I am thankful that their are good people out here that you can ask for help & get honest answers!
I am so glad that I understood your question and was able to help you. In my professional career I have used Animation Master, Maya and Softimage in production. I have also played with Modo and 3DS Max. Blender is by far my favorite 3D modeler. I also love the community...it is the best. I wish you success as an artist and hope you are thriving.
I'VE BEEN DOING IT THE HARD WAY FOR YEARS MAN. THANK YOU
thank u man
