Snapping with Custom Transform Orientations in Blender

- Here is a solution for those times when the built in Blender Transform Orientations don't seem to help you snap vertices as you would like to. Unfortunately, there are limits to snapping with the edge slide feature so a Custom Transform Orientation is the solution (or at least the only one I know of).
THANK YOU A LOT !
You made my work easier :)
Thank you! Still a relevant technique in Blender 3.x, but CTRL + ALT + SPACE has changed as the default shortcut. Use the drop-down menu found in 3D View > Header > Transform Orientation > "+" key to the right, called "Create Orientation". Also deleting the custom orientation is handled in the drop-down menu and not in the Sidebar (N).
Bryson! That custom transform nugget was just what I needed. Thanks breaux!
just what I was looking for, amazing!
You have no idea how many hours this saved me, thank you!! 🙏
THX,Thats REALLY REALLY helpful!
Oh! Thank you for this. I am maybe a bit late, but anyway )))
it"s doesnt work if edges not parallel)) still, after 7 years past))
Good and very handful explanation
Holding down Ctrl doesn't seem to work in 2.8
For Blender 2.8 and above users: There's a little '+' sign in the dropdown menu of the transform orientations
Thank you for posting that!
Thanks so much, Bryson, for this helpful video. Lots of useful tips in here. :-)
This was extremely valuable to me. I frequently have to build around scan data that is not aligned to the global axis. This was immensely helpful. You should have a Patreon or PayPal account. I would donate $50 for the time and frustration you just saved me. Thanks!
I actually appreciate the hot key call outs better than seeing the menu buttons, this makes it easier to remember for myself. Thanks!
You are a hero sir.
Awesome!
The Quad/Tri Mode for subdivisions was new to me, good to know! And Custom Orientations are very neat
I learned a lot of new stuff seeing this video. Thank you :)
thx been looking for this everywhere, i found a addon that did it once but forgot its name, new install made me lose it ;/ didnt realize it was a built in feature
2:57 create orientation - Edge Sliding multiple verts/edges along a single edge axis (move group vertex along one edge)
Great tutorial, excellent explanations. I learn a lot from it. Thanks.
For those of us who like things to line up.... that was really, really useful!
Great tip. Very useful. Thanks.
please make more tutorials. thanks for the tutorial. it was great help
That is some excellent advice. Thank you.
The snapping stops working for some reason! If I reset the scene and start from scratch, no problem, but the second time I try the vertex snap simply does nothing...
Is snapping toggled on? Press SHIFT+TAB and it should work fine
I had no idea that was in there. Very useful!
Great explanation mate. Thank you.
really helpful, plz go on
super useful tips thank you
best tutorial ever thank you
Hey , great tutorial mate. Content of all your videos are awesome. They are more like a learning lessons than a tutorial.
Thanks for the feedback. I am so grateful that my style of teaching, combined with my choice of topics is of some benefit to others. I love Blender and I am grateful that I have something useful to provide to the Blender community.
Is there no longer a way to do this without having to remember the CTR-ALT-Space hotkey?!? They seem to have moved it from the View menu, even though the Manual still says it's there.
Open the properties panel and there is another UI with transform orientations which has a + symbol where you can add your new one
Thanks!
excellent!
bloody handy !
