When I was a kid, my sister made a treasure map for my brother's birthday. We had to go through the cave (just a a Playschool tunnel), jump over the lagoon (over a blue blanket), things like that. This was my first introduction to adventure gaming, and I think it may have changed my life haha
I love this so much! My mom used to send me on litle treasure hunts for birthdays, easters, and christmas mornings and that's Definitely what got me hooked!
I'm really into surprise "gotchas" in puzzles. One idea I had was pasting the map onto a large panel of wood. At select locations, magnets would be inserted into the wood before the map was placed over it, and the players would figure out where to guy by finding where their "character" would stick to
I nearly had a family member drive away even though I told them their property lines were the boundaries of the adventure! They thought(correctly) that the clue referred to their favorite diner, but they didn't even consider the diner memorabilia they had displayed in their home before grabbing their keys.
It's ABSOLUTELY WILD where people's minds can go with clues and instructions! In the beginning, My clues were vague and opaque. At this point I'm MUCH more clear with instructions. I'd rather have my puzzle solve to give the location rather than mask the location and leave it up for interpretation. Hope it turned out great though!
