ABOUT ME
I’m 31 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 600 breeding ewes.
I shore over 15,000 sheep this season in UK and I also travel to Norway for shearing in March and September. (Covid messed it up this year)
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on UA-cam and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.
What a handsome pair of nephews you've got there! God Almighty bless and keep you all and your sheep!! Thank you!!
Those little guys are adorable!
Seeing you with the boys shows you’re going to be an amazing Dad. 🙂🇨🇦
Those kids are re adorable. I came for the sheep stayed for the kids.
You saying lie doon at the dog followed by "well done boys!" Reminds me of the time a family friend told her dog to sit and both the dog and her toddler sat down 😂
Your nephews are very cute. So appreciative that you care for the health of the sheep. ❤️
What an absolute pair of cuties are your nephews. Gorgeous how Reagan loves to copy his big brother. I think Wilson is getting a little braver with both the sheep and the camera. Be involved with your little lamb in the same way and you’ll make a great Dad.
It was great seeing Lizzy say hello in the video! She has been missed!
Just a heads up…you better watch out because I think your nephews will probably be wanting to take over your show soon 🤣🐑 they are naturals!
Aye she makes a few appearances. They are quite interested in the camera, will be great to show it back to them in a few years time.
I wanted to say hello to Lizzy! She is the one with all of the skills, and keeps it all together from behind the scenes! She might be quiet when the camera is on, but I bet when the camera is off... she doesn't hold back. You found a special rare gem in her Cammy.
She's amazing! I'm getting lazy because she keeps doing all the hard work lol
Ah your nephews are so lovely😍. Start them early. Looks like Meg had a run in with an angry ewe, poor girl.
Hi Cammy, when spraying the sheep's back end if you spray up the way any over spray land's on sheep's back, when you spray down the way any over spray land's on the ground. Just a wee money saving tip.😉
Our Moodle had to have 15 teeth removed last year. All the front ones are gone including one canine which never grew properly so his little tongue hangs out on one side. He adapted quickly & now has no trouble picking up his bouncy ball & even catching it mid air! He can still crunch bones as still has all his back teeth. 😁
Those little guy steel the show so cute .
Always good to see little fellers out helping
Sending Meg the toothless wonder lots of love from your friends across the pond. 🇨🇦❤️🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑
Ah poor Meg! Tell her not to feel too bad, though... My dog is down to only four teeth. This was an awesome video. I am learning a lot about sheep farming. Thank you for sharing.
Poor Meg make sure the roots are out too because she could end up in a lot of pain from infection
Yeah will do 👍
hello from a pedigree Shetland breeder at Irvine. Had them for 22 years and love the breed!!
Hi Susan 😁
Your nephews are little cuties.
I can attest with experience from my old Basset Hounds (RIP) that dogs can eat without teeth. lol But I do feel bad for her. Nice that you take care of the flies on the sheep bums as they can get just awful.Today, I was able to use your shearing holds on my cat to trim his claws. Although it was on a much smaller scale, it worked like a charm! The cat didn't even protest. My husband laughed at me. He told me that I can take a side job as a cat shearer!
That's good to know Marilyn that Meg she be able to eat just as well as before. Great that you were able to use something from one of the videos to trim your cats claws 👍
You have adorable nephews! 😍
Interesting information about preventing fly strike. I enjoy learning about these types of management techniques. You know, for my imaginary flock.😁
Here are few Sheep for you! 🐑 🐑 🐑 ✂️
Adorable! Nephews, friends in Ireland, yer lovely Lizzy and nipping that fly strike in the bud! Good on you!
Ha! I like the rams' four hoof reverse!
I just love your nephews!!!! Can't wait for your wee bairn to arrive! See I can speak Scottish! LOL
They are good boys and great to get them out and about with the sheep👍
The boys are precious! ❤️
I learn something with every video. Thanks Cammy.
Thanks Linda
Great video, these are two wee cracking boys , sorry about megs front teeth but she doesn’t seem at all bothered.
Family curls. 😍
Ah, the joy of crutching and treating rams. You mentioned the fighting, we have a mix of about 45 -50 horned and polled merinos; we always treat the head areas especially with the horned rams. A prime area for flystrike in late spring. Love the uploads. For your other viewers we have 3 variants of Clik in Oz with differing withholding periods before shearing. That can catch you out if you don’t keep on top of the work. Cheers from Western Australia.
Hi Lizzy good to see you too. Nice meeting the boys and good seeing u too Cammy. So sad to see what has happened to meg just let vet make sure there gonà cleanly so she can get infection if there broken off. Have a good day thanks for sharing .
Ah I hadn't really thought that there could be some bits of teeth left in, will get that checked out 👍
Yay! Watching a vlog the day it comes out. I’m almost caught up on past vids. Best channel ever.
Aww Meg my girl. Ouch!! It looks well healed at least :) Big hug from me.
Aye she's taken it well, she's a tough one💪
Oh my gosh your nephews are adorable!
That portable bogeye is brilliant. Bogeye is Australian for the hand piece that resembles a lizard we have here.
Interesting name you have for it, very useful for these sorts of jobs.
The blue one is backing away like “No No No No!” 😂
Adorable nephews.
The boys are adorable
....eh....THE BEST WAY TO END MY DAY.......IS MY VISIT TO YOUR CHANNEL....SHARE N AND CARE N......d........
First you gave us blue-nosed sheep. Now it's blue-striped sheep (or blue-bummed). At any rate, good looking beasts Cammy.
Thanks, do my best to keep you all entertained 👍
I had a dog whose mouth looked just like that and got progressively worse until it was to late to save him, it was cancer. Please save yourself some possible heartbreak and have your vet check her.
Heiniger have also 12V model for such application. Maybe you can test one? With car battery or backpack Li-on ? It would be nice to see your oppinion. Best regards.
A good job well done. 🐑🐑
Awe poor Meg. Best of luck to her. Great video with the little boys. Its great to see them getting used to sheep early in life. Great video.
Its a shame but think she will do just as well with a few less teeth. Good to have the nephews out with the sheep and seeing them grow in confidence around them.
Kids are so cute.
Our border collie ( Betty Boop ) broke 3 or 4 teeth, just smashing into things. She take off running with her ' eyes on the prize, in our case its a ball ' flat out with her head turned up looking for the ball and bang right into a car or a bench or whatever wasn't there before lol. She's 7 now I'm sure in another year she wont have teeth left.
Oh no, I guess she has managed ok with a few less teeth for a while now.
Your nephews are cute!!!
Oh! Side note…as you know I’m from Macon Georgia in The US. Amazingly I now understand every single word you say 🤷♀️😂 go figure!
That's great Tammy, glad you can understand me 👍
Hi liz good to see you again hope it all goes well for you in bonny scotland enjoy the videos he has loads talent be great to have a pint with him and sam 😆
I've heard shearers say that clik applied in spring or before shearing can make the sheep really difficult to shear. It's been great weather for flies this year hardly seen one but not so good for grass growth. All change now!
Flies are terrible in Australia common around me to see some ewes chewing their behind that’s a tell tale sign
Aye that is a good sign too, must be so uncomfortable for the sheep.
looooooooooooooooooooooooooove your hair !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Cammy, i agree with the early prevention schedule. I am in Broughshane Co. Antrim and I clipped the Ped. Suffolk 4 weeks ago and yesterday I applied the Click Extra to all ages of sheep as lambs not for keeping are sold . That should sort them for the this season. I like the Videos. Keep it up. Thanks Rab
Thanks Robert, hopefully that will get you through the season.
no flys in frosty Scotland this summer, if we even give u any temps above 10c
What are the flys that cause the flystrike? Blowflies? Do you have the Australian green flys?
Tups are looking cammy. I reakon fern is going to make a grand sheep dog
I love you and your family I am from Pakistan
thank you!
Love your videos thanks
Thanks Anthony
All my sheep tailed 1may and all lambs click extra should have a quiet summer crovect only thing that will kill maggots if you have a problem but prevention better than cure as they say 👍
Actually crovect is not the only thing, dip, maggot oil and even Dettol all kill maggots, crovect can kill lambs fairly easily
Awsome video x
Thanks Marilyn
So fun!!!
Good video!
Thanks Peg
Well done great job Allah love this animal
Prevention is always better than the cure 👏🏻👍🏻x Poor Meg she looks like toothless from how to train your dragon 😂. Lizzy is looking well glad everything is going well with the pregnancy 🤰 xxx
Love the education in your videos. So good to see the nephews and Lizzie. I wanted to ask, is the new grass cause the sheep to get diarrhea? Or is it something else that causes it. Thank you too for sharing the inside information on the best equipment. So sorry for Sweet Meg. Does she need her front teeth to do her job with the sheep? Have a great weekend!!!!
Yes new or wet grass can cause lambs to scour, but mostly it's due to worm or coxy burden
Hi Teresa. So generally in adult sheep it's just the new spring grass that causes them to skitter and get dirty tails. Adult sheep aren't effected by worms unless they are already weak because of some other issue. Lambs with dirty bums is a bigger concern but I cover that in a few upcoming videos! On the Meg issue she'll be fine without them. She still has the canines if any sheep try to have a go at here =D
Are you interested in a beltex x dorset tup lamb? Or fresh herdi tup lamb?
What kind of dosing gun is that your using? Looks fantastic!
Nice
Cracking video cammy. What were the lambs like from the zwartable ram
Thanks Paddy, the Zwartbles are just teaser, makes it easy to pick them out 👍
@@TheSheepGame oh yes. I remember now from a previous video. They look fine rams
Big boys and wee boys ! Sorry about Meg but at least she’s not bothered
Aye, hopefully it'll not bother her too much and she can eat well enough
That's my job for this weekend.
Don't worry about meg and the teeth, at least she won't be nipping.
It's a good job to get done. True she won't be able to hold on much now.
Great stuff, be careful when your dagging like that in the chute with that other ram at head level, I have seen them take rare notions, he could make a drive at you with his head, never can be to careful with livestock, a ram can hit you very hard.
Cool
Who is James we see him all the time we seen him grow up here. Who is he related to?
How many yowes you running?
What a sweet couple of kids! I'd babysit em! Might not be worth the trip for ya though. What with me being in the US.
What age will you do the lambs for fly strike
This product cannot be administered to lambs younger than one week old. From the second week it can be used without any problems.
Prevention is better than cure, is an old saying.
Could we please talk to Lizzie and you doing videos with her and the kids and her we love it so please just short videos it will have a
What breed were the dark tups in the group? They were gorgeous!
These are sheep of the black blaze breed, originally from Holland.
These are Zwartbles, I use them as teasers as they are easy to spot and remember which is which.
@@TheSheepGame Thank you! What a clever method
What is the name of the product you sprayed on the sheep?
Crovect
Should just clip those tups, Click extra applied straight off shears, completely covered for the entire season against the primary lucilia sericata ( green bottle) strike , blue bottles and black bottles are secondary opportunists and only strike after the green bottles have initiated the strike. That’s what we do to our stock tups don’t have to worry about them then. Well apart from click doesn’t prevent dog strike but lead does.🤯🤯 ps clipped our replacement gimmers today 60 using Heiniger Mach 9 comb no more 13 teeth combs for me , have to be careful though .
I had thought about just shearing them but forecast was still look a bit cool when I made this video so decided to hold off. Ah you wouldn't want to get you fingers between one of those teeth!
Any foreseeable Haircut in the near future?
Might be coming sooner than I thought Lisa, not sure I can stick it at this length in the heat!
🥰🐑
Poor Meg is she eating well?
I would like to be able to get some products like Clik or Crovecthere in the US. We have some similar type products available. I don’t think they work as good as those two. FDA I think block a lot of it. The way I look at it, If y’all can use those products why can’t we use it over here.
That is interesting, they are two great products and really help us get through the summer and keep the flies at bay 👍
Can you show the pb blue leister ewes and lambs in a video
Will do my best James to try and incorporate that into one of the vlogs or do a little special one for them.
What is the black sheeps breed
Zwartble
Yes that's right the black ones are Zwartbles, these ones are all teasers so they are easy to spot and pull out.
Just out of interest what all ram breeds do you have? I think I see a herdwick 😍
I saw a Texelaar/Fur sheep?/Blue Faced Leicester/Herdwick/Poll Dorset. The first two are from Holland, the others are English, I think.
Remco Kuiper I think he also has some zwartbles/spotted Dutch/Jacob too but was wondering as there was one that looked like a belclare but could also be another texal x! I love the wide variety he has!
@@daniellehazley1345 I forgot the black blaze (zwartbles) By the fur sheep I meant the spotted dutch.
Remco Kuiper ah I’d never heard of that name before! You learn something new every day!
Spotted Dutch. In Holland we call them bonte schaap.
I have Steen hat they do in Australia Where they cut away skin in the back without any anastetick,it is horrible.just becouse the animals cant talk and say anything about the pain they go thrue😢it is animal cruelty .
Is it not better to shave the sheeps so they dont Get big problems in There?
They will be shorn, but at the time we did this it was forecast some cool weather still so thought we would hold off for a little longer
So... its not your baby just hers? Lol
Why don't you shear the rams ? Save them going on their backs also. We shore our rams the other day and they are more than fit.
Felt it was still cool enough up here in Scotland at the time and saves them having too much wool on at the end of the summer.
