I have never watched the clipping or shearing of sheep, it was so relaxing...for me, but I hope your back is ok! Beautiful sheep, music and video! Thank you for de-stressing me today for 13 minutes!! 🥰🤗

What a lovely and fascinating breed! That ewe wasn't ready to leave when James was finished. She must've really enjoyed her spa treatment! Also, three cheers for the lady with the tea and biscuits!

Just so you feel better about your 4 mins - yesterday we had to shear a rescued wool breed sheep when we ordinarily run Dorper hair sheep who shed. We had old school hand clippers and a pair of scissors and it took 2 hours :P

Those valais give gorgeous wool! James has a lovely, calm nature. I'm not surprised the sheep are so docile with him. As for somebody never shearing valais before, James did an excellent job.

Love watching you shear. Glad James bounces back quickly and was there to help today. It amazes me how quickly, yet how gentle you two are with the sheep. I love the comraderie too. That makes a job go much quicker doesn't it? Good work all!

I fell in love with these sheep the moment I saw them. I had no idea they were so expensive. It always makes me laugh when I see a sheep being shorn. They don't move a muscle. No resentance or complaining whatsoever. I could never eat these beautiful animals. They remind me of children. I enjoyed your video and could listen to a Scotman talk all day. Music to my ears.

  • @markirving249

Who shears their faces for you, always the hardest part of a Valais to shear, getting the wool between the ear and the horn not easy. Well done shearing those horrors.

Quality video again Cammie. Really enjoyed. Interested to hear about the show-sheep you were off to next, would be really interested to see how your approach changes to shearing those! Also took note of the ferrule/screwdriver trick: I'm trying to repair an old Lister handpiece (pin drive) and am having an issue removing it's ferrule. I'll be giving your technique a try and see if it frees it! Cheers, Chris

For those of us sheep fans who have only seen videos of shearing - but never in person - the equipment used is kind of mysterious. You’ve explained or demonstrated many times how the approach chute sets the animals up to wait until it’s each one’s turn, and how the newly naked sheep leave the platform. But the mysterious part is the rest of the equipment! What sort of blades do you prefer? Do you use the same setup for each breed, or are there differences? I figured out the pull cord is the safe way to start or stop the cutting part, but the suspended motor thing and the jointed tubes has baffled me for some time. Even looking at the Heiniger on line catalog, I’m still not sure how all the parts work together. Always something new to learn!
