These a pretty. I do like the red/pink , and the last one that you don't like the colors of. My favorites are the perfect one you made, and the one you don't like. I don't like the cloudy white one, but I think the others can be fixed up. Thanks for sharing your "disasters", as you said. Your tips are very helpful.
with the newest one in the video, a few small koi fish and lily pads placed in there with tweezers and a drop or two of glue to make it stick would make a lovely microenvironment
i am learning a lot. grateful you are making the mistakes before me. because i don't need more of them too. someone got a manicure that looks very nice.
I’m not a real (petri person) but they are growing on me. The last one is gorgeous, the white did exactly what it is supposed to do. And I agree, MYRIAM is the best.🤩 Thanks for sharing good and not so good 😊😉
@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts You're welcome we are doing good and I got rid of the aid the employer was upset to hear how she was and didnt tell her half of it but I was done with her crap.
Both you and Miriam are delightful. I have seen all of her and your videos. Unfortunately I made a globe before I saw yours. I decided to make a sphere for my granddaughter. My six-year-old grandson is going to get a pyramid, which if it turns into the disaster of the globe, may be the last resin I ever do.Within the sphere I put swans of different sizes, a Copper Moon that I pounded, six or seven Pegasus flying horses of different sizes, and a couple of Crystals that I made from molds. All were painted bright fun colors that she had asked for. Ok, You may think that this sounds sweet. What it turned out to be was a disaster. Inside the globe, at the very bottom I put pink sand and then on top of that I put glass crystals. When Demolded I found that the sand had not completely been covered by the resin so i had this rough, ragged sand bottom. The top, where there’s the area to dome, was rough and had pieces That needed to be sanded because she’s only four and she would hurt herself on anything that wasn’t smooth... plus she could throw it at her brother, so I had to find a way to put a coaster underneath. So of course I sanded the mess where the sand is, I sanded the area around the middle where the two pieces meet and I sanded the top. My biggest fear was that one of the Pegasus would go belly up because I couldn’t see as it was going into the mold top and that my granddaughter would remark “ why is Pegasus dead grandma“! That didn’t happen. But what did happen is that now I had to coat the globe again with resin. I have coated the globe 11 times because each time there are bubbles or drips or some anomaly that is gross. I am ready to take the globe, open my window throw it out and hope that some very large bird picks it up. I hate the globe. But because all of the little things inside , including a magician, I can’t just start a new. I’ve just had hand surgery and I i’m waiting until my hand heals to use micro mesh with water to sand the whole globe, then use another level of micromesh until I get to the smoothest and then I intend to put some rubbing compound on and sand yet again - all of which I am hoping will keep me from having to put another layer of resin on. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I know that you did this a year ago and I’m not sure you’re gonna get this message but I hope you will because I am completely at a loss to know how to keep more bubbles, drips and messes off the surface. I like the idea of putting some resin in the dome but I’m totally afraid it will drip. Thank you for the delightful English humor and the creativity that you display.
The one that you said was creepy? I think it looks like a close up of an eye. I would have used a carving/grinding tool to make a slot into the flat back and painted the slot black or poured black epoxy into it to make a pupil. That one was awesome looking to me and really would have looked super cool as an eye.
I'd actually do the eye thing w/ the top of the pink one as well... just pop some black on the top and boom pink eyeball 4 a Halloween thing especially since it's flat on the bottom making it easy to mount onto anything
The Globe is super, that gold/blue was a triumph. War of the Worlds would look amazing in a (large!) aquarium. I'm also a Myriam-with-a-Y fan, it's interesting when different fields overlap & you recognise names on competely different channels. I'm worrying about how to keep a small room at the right temp for curing for 72 hrs at a time during a cold winter & would be grateful to anyone for recommendations for heaters as I don't want to heat the whole house non-stop for that length of time.
@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts I've had so many disasters lately so I've not done any resin for a couple of weeks. I thought it better to walk away for a while or I'd end up throwing everything in the bin 😔 I'll go back to it when I'm in a better frame of mind. Hope everything is good with you. Stay safe 💜
I love the one you think looks creepy. No judging. 😄 They all have something cool about them. Even the ones that didn't come out perfect. My favourites are the creepy one and the last one. 😊
Steve McDonald Arts and Crafts it is for sure how I learn when I make mistakes and every once in a while the mistake turns out pretty cool. Stay safe hun.
Try incorporating the two pieces into another resin project maybe put them in the middle of a round mold that makes a serving tray I think that would be beautiful.
That is absolutely awesome it looks like a satellite picture of the world The War of the Worlds one is pretty cool too sometimes not mistakes just happy accidents LOL
I would say that I don’t really see disasters. Although I don’t like the last one also and because of it’s creepiness lol, I would not call it disaster. And I also mean that as compliments to you Steve. Thanks for showing us and help us prevent big disasters lol 😂 Btw I love the one you call good, the first one in the video. Now I’m gonna check out Myriam’s channel. Big thanks and stay safe and healthy! Greetings from across the water channel 🇧🇪
Hi Steve,,, why not put the two half's of the spheres together to make one unique sphere, I think the two half's look stunning,a little resin painted on the one half and place together to cure,I'm sure it would save it and look awesome, the sphere at the beginning of your video is really beautiful,, the war of the worlds one and the other half the bright one I think would look cool,,let me know what you think of that idea.
I really like how that turned out. I have a real problem with that type of mold. Every time I pour the top portion it heats up and cures within a couple of hours, if even that long. It doesn't matter what brand of resin I use. Any idea what could cause this?
Great video as ever Steve! Great result, it's beautiful. Thanks too for showing the "mistakes", it's a fab way of learning where it can go wrong. End result was awesome thanks!
@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts ... I am so glad you said that. I always felt I learned more from my mistakes than my successes. Plus the successes always seem so much richer and more appreciated when I had to work harder for them. I learn so much from your videos. I received a shipment of silicone molds over a year ago. To date I haven't worked with the spheres. Using a glue gun to seal them together is brilliant! I am inspired to venture into New directions. Thank you!
Is it possible to cut the spheres in slices? I think you would find some really interesting designs that could then be made into pendants or sun catchers.
Just found your channel and I’ve been binge watching your videos while I wait for my new house purchase to finish so that I can set up my studio again and get all my resin stuff out of storage. I have that sphere mold and it has been _so_ frustrating to get good results from it. I just can’t get a complete sphere - that top hole is a pain. When the resin shrinks back, I don’t get a complete sphere which is what I’m after. But I like your idea: work with the problem. However, I think I would’ve sanded the sphere flat before doing the magnifying bit so that the edges were perfect. Thanks for doing this. Now: over to Myriam’s channel.
what type or Brand is good for Alcohol is? cuz i just learned not all Resins will work for such pigments, so thas why i ask, been wanting to do this well ty for ur video hope you can help me out ty
Turn these into the tops of beaded garden stakes. They would look great in the garden, especially the red one with the dark spot facing up, (looks like a flower pod).
First time resin user, I followed your directions on mixing to minimize bubbles and poured my half silicone sphere mold and should I expect a curing time longer than 24 hours for a baseball sized mold? Also struggling to find a method to make the top mold the same as the bottom. I’ve poured the resin in both halves separately and used a similar alcohol ink process for both as seen in your video. I thought if I poured them just under the lip of each I could add a smidge more resin along with a small amount of alcohol ink and then put the two halves together to set the final cure.
Steve I have a question, In your egg mold you had to paint it afterword for it to be shiny. Could you put varnish, high gloss modpogh or paint the mold with resin to make the mold be shinny before you pour the resin? Have always wondered
Thank you for sharing this! That hack that you said to never use, warming the resin, I have seen successfully used to combat resin being too thick because of the cold ambient temperature... only she used hot tap water and soaked the part A and B bottles for about 10 minutes, rather than the extreme of almost boiling... I'm curious if that would extend the pot time of resin that has started to set up.
I think the one with the white coming through is quite nice. Can't you said d the bottom/tops to .and them level? I'm only saying what I've seen others do as I've not done much myself lol so it's really questions for you and not answers. x Ann x
