  • Preparing various strips to use for flounder fishing.
Check your local fishing laws in regards to possessing fish strips while fishing. Some states will consider each strip as a fish. Both in number of fish and also in size of the strip must be minimum size of a fish.

What's appealing to your eye isn't always what is appealing to a fish.

Ribbon fish should be awesome for making strips to put on flounder jigs. That silver skin ought to be perfect. Around the Chesapeake there are lots of ribbon fish that are a pain. Now we have a use for them.

I have heard that they were good. From what I have heard, they are crispy when cooked? But I think they are better to use to catch another fish.

Can you sauté those Sea Robin strips in Olive Oil ,Garlic, a dash of Hot Sauce, topped off with Season Bread Crumbs?

I was watching a movie one time about Robin Hood. Friar Tuck was talking about wheat. He said that yes you could make bread with it, but god has a better purpose for it. That was BEER.
Now the analogy would be that there is a higher purpose for those Sea robin strips.
You know what I mean, don't you?
Answer: to lure flounder into your cooler.

Where do you get those thick squid? I haven't seen them where I live. Thanks

I get them at an Asian market. I can go to either Assi Market, or H Mart in my area.

What does shaping the bait do?

It will allow the strip to flutter a little more effectively. And also it more has the shape of baitfish.

    George,
Can you freeze them to use on the next fishing trip that maybe in the few weeks ?
Also - how match salt do you put ?

    • @GeorgeShields
      @GeorgeShields  7 років тому +1

When you brine them, they will stay in your freezer for a long time. And since they are brined, they will not freeze solid, they will stay soft.
I use enough salt to coat all of the surfaces. Make sure you are using kosher salt or the strips may get discolored.
After they sit in the salt for a while, you will see liquid forming. Do not throw that out, it is a brine solution. The liquid is what the salt pulled out of the strips.
Do me a favor, please subscribe to my channel if you haven't done that yet.Thanks.

You are using small baits for a lot of shorts and not keepers. All good info. But illegal to bring fluke ribbons on a previous trip of you live in the NJ/NY area.
