If I was the male guest, I would have lost it being interrupted that much ffs Anyway, the issue with the phrase 'man up' is that it enforces societal gender roles. In this case towards men. It would be tantamount to shaming women for having tattoos because its "unladylike" So either we as a society accept gender roles for both genders or we scrap them all. Cant just keep them for men and let women be free from them altogether. THAT is sexism
Men can cry men should cry but no one respects a man who is all way blubbering over everything. There is an apropriate time for a man to cry and very rarely is it infront of others
@@keifer7813 simple Societal norm's/gender rolls. it's a bit F-ed up but it is what it is. Crying is an expression of weakness. Expressing weakness while occasionally appropriate it can and will be used against you as a man so generally it's better to cry alone. It's also a big turn off to a lot of women so generally it's not a good idea to cry in front of your woman. I know plenty of women who dumped their boyfriends because he cried about something she didn't see as appropriate. Iv seen men have their pain thrown back in their face by other men.
@@justacentrist4147 I mean yeah it'll likely reduce your dating success as a man, but that doesn't mean we should go out of our way to tell them to 'man up'. I'm a guy and I don't like to cry but I'm not going to bash another guy who does. Just like I won't bash a woman for learning to box because its considered 'unladylike'. For some reason the former is acceptable while the latter isn't 🤔
I was never told by my father to “Man up” as I got to face up to situations by force of personal example. Alpha anyone is a useless concept. Man up is a comparatively recent expression.
That woman actually uses terms like alpha male and alpha female. Laughable.
Okay this is what i don't get whats wrong "Man Up" has always been away to encourage them to be motivated
Because it's a gendered term of encouragement.

Why is the appropriateness of when to cry dependent on your gender?

Guess I can just start saying, Oh "just be a woman."
