- Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan has called out the Taliban's "incredibly draconian" treatment of Afghan women in a fiery no holds barred interview with the group’s spokesperson Suhail Shaheen.
The Taliban has ordered all Afghan women to wear head-to-toe coverings in public.
The decree from supreme leader Haibatullah Akhunzada said women should leave home only when necessary, and male relatives would face punishment - including jail time - for women’s dress code violations.
It is the latest in a series of repressive moves by the Taliban leadership, which have generated concerns among human rights activists.
Mr Morgan called out the Taliban for reportedly banning girls from attending high school after the militant group vowed to bring in an "inclusive Islamic government" to Afghanistan.
"The kids after 12, 13, can't go to school, all women have to wear a covering apart from their eyes, they're not getting most jobs now apart from women-specific jobs which can't be filled by men,” he said.
"They have men now, relatives and employers, who are exercising a control over them which can be punishable if it's broken by imprisonment.
"This is incredibly draconian - I can't think of anywhere else in the world that is doing this to women.
“What part of any of this shows that you have changed?"
Mr Shaheen dismissed Mr Morgan's concerns as false media reports.
"What you are saying you have gotten from media reports which are not correct," he said.
Mr Morgan also referred to the Taliban as "abject failures" when it comes to its handling of the Afghanistan economy.

I agree. On one hand I think that if there is no coercion then a grown woman should wear what she wants. On the other hand, if you do not like the laws of a country- then leave.

As an afghan, I would say its a complete fake news that you have to wear a burka. Majority of women just wear normal hijab just like they do in any other country. Burka is more of a cultural nd traditional thing. Afghanistan didn't not just become a Muslim country under Taliban, Afghanistan was an Islamic country forever. Also there is this misconception that men forcing women to cover and stuff, trust me its totally not true. As I said its an Islamic country and by that I meant not just men are Muslims, its the women who needs to follow everything what the religion says as well because they believe in the same religion so its not that the men are forcing them to cover, its the women themselves want to cover. however when it comes to education then the Taliban are completely wrong, and they keep coming with different excuses. Do all non-Muslims follow the same rules? The Qur’an and the Sunnah does not allow for any oppression of women, that’s what counts. They were commanded to Surrender because all high ranking officials had fled and so there was no commanders to tell them what to do and the very few that had stayed didn't have the expertise to led a military so they decided to avoid bloodshed because even though they were more numerous they would have definitely got beaten because of a lack of access to supplies, intel, and etc. If the US had tracked it's foreign aid instead of blindly feeding corrupt politicians, things wouldn't have gone that bad.

First Piers Morgan's criticizes how girls are not getting education. Suhail Shaheen responds by saying they are definitely getting primary education then Piers goes on to say but higher education is being restricted for women. Well realize that it takes time to create higher education centers that will cater to women's needs in Islam. Where they will be secure without any unnecessary unwanted distractions. If you think that it is not possible then look at countries like Saudi Arabia, look at Nations like Brunei which has many aspects of sharia implemented they have centers of education where women participate actively.

My parents and my sisters are in Afghanistan. And I am well aware of what this bastards are doing to the people especially women and girls. Taliban leaders are lying to the medias. The level of pressure on women and limiting their freedoms is increasing day by the day. In most of the provinces women are forced to stay at home, forced to cover head to toe, not allowing them to work, even they ordered that couples and woman and men from the same family aren't allowed to eat in the resturant together. That is insane. This inhumane regime has to go asap. the entire country is grappling with poverty, insecurity, unemployment and inflation yet the only thing their regime is working on is how to suppress women.

Especially American girls are extremely ignorant and all they learn is homosexuality and degradation of the female sex. Western and American girls in particular do not know geography, history or religion.
