Ok, so let me make sure I've got this straight... The reporter, cameraman, and Carlos were all traveling together and they knew the only people they could trust for sure was each other. Soooooooooo, they ALLOWED THEMSELVES to all become separated from each other. Reporter notices this, because, you know, he's a reporter, and they are smart like that. A little while after realizing he is alone, his camera is recording him and moving w/o him near it? Then Carlos happens to find him. He never mentions cameraman finding them even though it appears he is there. They need water and have iodine to treat it. Carlos can't wait for a river and drinks from a puddle w/o treating the water with iodine, which reporter has. While "lost", they manage to not only go the right way, but they manage to end up exactly where the migrants are. They were lucky that the Panama guards kept the migrants there until they got there so they could say goodbye. Which group of migrants? Don't know, he didn't say. Because they split into two groups if you remember. Or I guess the Panama guards are really good and caught both and then brought one group to the other. Did I miss anything? No? Ah, ok, good. Just wanted to make sure. It's disgusting when a serious subject like this is presented like a "reality" tv show...
***** I'm not sure if you agree or disagree with what I said. But I put the word reality in quotes because I don't believe that reality tv shows aren't at least partially scripted or planned.
Dylan Patera Exactly. This was the kind of thing I would expect to see on Vice. At least with Vice you KNOW you are going to see shitty journalism whenever you watch a video. ;-p
+ SirReptitious and + Dylan Patera. Sorry to be contradictory. I pretty much agree with your comments. I think it must have been very difficult to make this doc. perfectly without some imperfections- namely the staged feeling. When they split into 2 groups, I think that all the migrants went in 1 group and the narrator, guides, Carlos and cameraman followed behind; they were concerned that when stopped by border guards they'd be arrested for aiding the migrants... or did I miss something?
SE Asia Scott Yeah, theoretically that could be true. We have no way of knowing what footage was left on the editing room floor. So all we DO have to go on is what they CHOSE to show us. And what they showed us appears to be very scripted and pre-planned. And personally I think it was intentional.
I guess I am the only Filipino out here watching this! This literally breaks my heart, what the migrants have gone through is worse than what we're going thru. Thank you so much for this very superb and excellent documentary! This is the best! I wish all the migrants have a place to go to in this beautiful world! This word belongs to all of us! I can't stop thinking where those 20 migrants are now...
This was an incredible documentary. Thank you for showing us part of the world that very few have and sharing the story of these poor suffering migrants.

If you're from Cameroon or Bangladesh you might be at least a little accustomed to tropical climates. I would probably die from heat stroke pretty fast. It makes me feel extra for the Nepalese who try this. Regardless of where someone is from, though, it is hard to imagine what it must be like to travel half way around the world, then cross several borders illegally, to then cross through one of the craziest jungle/swamps on the planet.... only to still be more than 5000 km from the border you want to get to with many more drug smuggling gang riddled borders on the way.... only to MAYBE finally get to the USA only to find a country of greedy xenophobes who just want to take advantage of you and blame their problems on you at the same time. Good luck travelers! I hope people get a chance to watch this before they leave their home country.
A bunch of Xenophobes. That's rich considering that the USA has the largest population of migrants in the world. Literally every country is represented in the US, hints why the US is called the melting pot of the world. It's large corporations backed by several politicians on both sides of the political isle (moreso Democrats now which is why the 5 largest companies in the US are liberal) which seek to flood the workforce with unskilled laborers, allowing these large corporations to pay workers far less than necessary. So if that's what you're talking about, sure. But it's not 99% of America that's xenophobic. It's the few elitists who only seek to further their lower and deepen their wallets. Controlling immigration and work visa overstays isn't xenophobia to be clear. That's ensuring that these people aren't trafficking people or drugs throughout the US, giving LEO's the ability to identify those horrific people and stop them. The USA allows the longest Visa stays, has some of the loosest immigration laws (although they need to be streamlined), and offers the best possible quality of life for Asians (who are immigrating in numbers far greater than documented Hispanic immigrants) who are seeking refuge from communism, Hispanics who are seeking asylum from socialism, and Middle Easterners who are seeking asylum from totalitarian maxist regimes. You want xenophobia? Look no further than Russia, China, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Iran, South Africa, etc. China literally has millions of people in "workers camps" (concentration camps) for practicing the Abrahamic religions (Islam, Judaism, Christianity), and has millions more fleeing to the west. If the USA was so xenophobic, racist, bigoted, and horrid for people outside of European descent, then you would have a flood of people leaving the US. But the US doesn't. It has always been people running away from Marxism and Totalitarian regimes.
As a Bangladeshi, I really feel sorry for them. But trust me, there are plenty of opportunities here in Bangladesh to make money. According to the IMF, Bangladesh's economy is the second fastest growing major economy of 2016. But the sad part is still people believe in the American Dream and willingly risking their lives to go to USA. And most importantly they choose the wrong path to move to USA and ignoring all the legal ways. I have been to USA twice and every year thousands of people from Bangladesh go to USA legally. I feel very sad after watching this and I believe this is not their fault as they were manipulated by some human trafficking agencies. Hopefully they will come back to Bangladesh safely. And thanks Journeyman Pictures for this documentary. We will use this documentary to create awareness in our country.
This is the second time I’ve watched this over the years. Political views aside, my heart breaks for my fellow Man, the corrupt leaders of their countries cause such death and misery, very sad.

I bet those guys bribed the guards to let the migrants thru. They couldn't talk or film about it to keep every one involved safe. That guy with the beard has to soft of a heart to have just left them there.
Its been 5yrs ago since this documentary uploaded. I'm wondering what happened to the people present in this documentary. I hope and I pray they are in the safe and comfortable place now.
Incredible programme, how lucky are we to not have to leave our children and family to make a better life for themselves truly scary and the unknown must be so very stressful !!! I hope those guys are all ok and not dead !!!
Ecuador is fairly welcoming, and if they're truly humanitarian refugees, they could apply there, or Brazil, Peru, Colombia, etc. But it's eyes on the prize, USA or bust. Can't say I blame them, but if it's death or Ecuador, I'll take Ecuador.
Because they love their own beloved countries and were only trying to go to America to make some money. you cannot do so in Columbia Which is a quite different country ffrom USA
I have known couple of these guys in the doc who are really doing great in U.S & CANADA. I personally got alot of information from them concerning this journey.
The narrator and Carlos (and cameraman) took all that stuff but no compass. A small, cheap indispensable tool. No disrespect, I think these guys are great for documenting the trip and trying to help the refugees en route.
They said the migrants didn't have a compass. They never said they didn't have a compass. If nothing else, they had smartphones, and they typically have compass apps.
"Compass apps on their smartphone" in the middle of undeveloped jungle in the Darian gap, lol that's the most first world comment I've ever seen in my life. There is no possible way they have cell phone service out there.
jlarch3313 it's the currency of the entire world. That's why the U.S can sanction and ban foreign rogue states from trading in the US dollar. ( Like North Korea for EG, and Trump threatened such sanctions)
To who ever is watching this video I strongly recome to who ever wants to make this trip to get physically fit at least for 3 months, walking at least a mile everyday, jogging at least three miles every other day... i got ready four months ready before joining the us army infantry i still struggled but i struggled less as much as the guys who did no training.
I appreciate this documentary so much because you are bringing into awareness what people from other countries must go through just to survive from day to day. What I noticed is that most of them are Muslims praying to Allah. I pray for them to The Most High Almighty and His Son Yahshua. Perhaps while these migrants are traveling they should stop and have prayer meetings, read their bibles and call on God to help. Christians should be amongst them to witness to God for them. Then they will gain strength, courage, spiritual support, and some joy to complete their journey. Satan waits for them while they travel, but without God's protection, Satan will capture them and destroy them. Prayer is the key. Let's pray for these migrants and that God's Will, will be done!🙏🏼
my Cameroonian Mama hope you're fine. I'm still struggling with the war here now it's no more just in the North but even in the south west and North West.

I was the only woman in this journey and i was send back when i ever i watch this documentary full of tear 😢😢😢 in my eye i have been suffering for years now
Our status in rich countries comes at a cost. What I mean is that for example, the clothes you wearing would cost way more if were made by European hands instead of Bangladeshi rising from maybe 10$ to 50/100$, because you will need to pay at least 10$ hour the person making it instead of 3$ for a day of work in poor countries. Are you willing to pay 100$ for a product instead of 10$ so one Bangladeshi guy can earn 20$ a day instead not feeling the need to migrate? This is just scratching the surface of the topic.
Poor, poor Evelin :( Poor all of them!! I sit here wishing I could help her... Makes u realize that no matter how bad I "think" my world is, hers is much worse. She could die there, all of them could. Sorry world we have created.
@17:00 I feel sorry 4 the guy he says "The hardest bit is over" he doesn't realise he still has Mexico 2 cross , from what I have seen that will surely be the hardest! I hope he made it.
If these people are really just escaping political danger they could have settled down in any of the south american countries they passed through rather than risking their lives for the slim chance that they might make it. I think they are quite naive about their expectations of the US and have been over promised by the traffickers.
+Charlie - Yes and no. It all depends. They would probably have little future in South America. But I agree that in this day and age, it probably wouldn't be that much brighter in the U.S. (at least not until several years after their arrival anyway).
@@Sovereign_Citizen_LEO They'll come to the US and if by the small chance that they are allowed in, they'll be dirt poor, still living in squalor. most of the migrants eventually continue north to Canada because the US isn't what they expected it to be.

I agree, i personally found that little "event" quite distasteful and staged feeling. very insightful.
Dylan Patera
Exactly.
SE Asia Scott
Yeah, theoretically that could be true. We have no way of knowing what footage was left on the editing room floor. So all we DO have to go on is what they CHOSE to show us. And what they showed us appears to be very scripted and pre-planned. And personally I think it was intentional.
One of the best documentaries I have ever seen. Truly an eye opener.
Best documentary on UA-cam, exciting and heartbreaking thinking there may be twenty lost people out there
respect to the only Gambian that took this risk and God bless all of these beautiful people
I guess I am the only Filipino out here watching this!
You are a great person! I am hoping for your safety and the people you are helping!
This was an incredible documentary. Thank you for showing us part of the world that very few have and sharing the story of these poor suffering migrants.
They are not suffering.
i'd be interested to know what happened to the others.
Eaten by jaguars.
Watching from Jamaica west Indies !!

Me too
Unbelievable video coverage, very tough job.Thank you for bringing such an Unbelievable experience
wow this deffinetly changes my perspective on refugees and migrants. I wish I could help!
You can help. Become a migrant guide through the Darian Gap and take them for free
Dont worie you and every tax payer in america will be pay millions of are tax dollers keeping them up.they need to go back to there own country and fix it.
Thanks for documenting this.
Journeyman should have so many more subscribers. They are way better than vice, mainly because they aren’t totally biased and high on themselves. Thank you so much, I’ve enjoyed many of your docs and I’ll enjoy many more!
he didn’t make this. the original is sbs dateline
I think it might depend more on your accustomed altitude than latitude.
Nepalese are black skin people and Bangladesh is the neighbor of Nepal
Survival for the fittest.
It has always been people running away from Marxism and Totalitarian regimes.
it's so heartbreaking.
hope they reach safe back to their place.
This is a depressing end to a very beautiful documentary. I hope everyone made it out alright after all.
I am proud to be black american in USA...watching this makes me even MORE proud.
Who ask you brainwash 💀
It's been 4 years since they crossed the borders.. I hope they'all are fine.
I just love the narrators voice, one of the best I've heard !!
Great documentary,
Thank you😊
I've never heard of this place before. 😳 We have so much to be grateful for
this videos deserves a billion views
Awesome documentary brother..thank you.
This is the second time I’ve watched this over the years. Political views aside, my heart breaks for my fellow Man, the corrupt leaders of their countries cause such death and misery, very sad.
Hey man I’m happy you watch this over and over . I do the same now. Would it be crazy if I told you that this world can At time fee so small ! The Gambia guy I know him personally. Crazy story man I wish I can meet the publisher of this video !
And those that was given leadership God's judgment shall come
@@93jrodriguez1 did he make it?
@@93jrodriguez1is he alive?
great doc. makes you realize how bad it is in other countries people willing to risk their lifes to get to U.S ,even if they make it out if this jungle they still have long dangerous journey ahead
it breaks my heart, one of the best docu I've ever seen
Hatsoff to the man behind this video great job
If I can’t leave my country the proper way then I will live here forever!!
This changed the perspective of my struggles. These people made it so easy. 😐 i will pray for them wherever they might be right now.
Ohhh man what a documentary....god bless you brother... Love from india (kolkata)
ah ok, Kolkata, i get it now
I bet those guys bribed the guards to let the migrants thru. They couldn't talk or film about it to keep every one involved safe. That guy with the beard has to soft of a heart to have just left them there.
I doubt he had the money to do that. There "so called" guides took several $thousand dollars for their services.
@@Sovereign_Citizen_LEO hope those guides got locked up
any news regarding those guys?
This is heartbreaking.
when he gets lost is just to make the documentary interesting..
What a feat Jason. Another story revealed by the bravest of men. I salute you.
Its been 5yrs ago since this documentary uploaded.
I'm wondering what happened to the people present in this documentary. I hope and I pray they are in the safe and comfortable place now.
Am from kenya, did you find their whereabouts?this was the best documentary ever.
Incredible programme, how lucky are we to not have to leave our children and family to make a better life for themselves truly scary and the unknown must be so very stressful !!! I hope those guys are all ok and not dead !!!
My goodness, I'm Cameroonian. I'd rather die trying to get out of Cameroon than be killed by the Biya's military
Plz have a subtitles in future & thanks for making a video like this to make me know Joe hard live out there.. Thank and we appreciate it..
So why didn't they try and settle in Colombia or any of the other S. American countries they traversed, why risk going all the way to El Norte?
skankhunt42 May god bless you and your lack of compassion and sympathy. Such a rotten heart for one human really.
no gibs
Ecuador is fairly welcoming, and if they're truly humanitarian refugees, they could apply there, or Brazil, Peru, Colombia, etc. But it's eyes on the prize, USA or bust. Can't say I blame them, but if it's death or Ecuador, I'll take Ecuador.
Because they love their own beloved countries and were only trying to go to America to make some money. you cannot do so in Columbia Which is a quite different country ffrom USA
Bomfunk777 why didn’t they go to Dubai or turkey or Europe
They know no race in this jungle; everyone from the world in the same struggle to make it through
War is bad, no matter how you see it. innocents people always pay the consequences. Weapons selling is more dangerous than drugs trafficking
hey man, war in Bangladesh was 49 years ago....
I have known couple of these guys in the doc who are really doing great in U.S & CANADA. I personally got alot of information from them concerning this journey.
I know The Gambia guy. I meet him at a ice facility detention in Newark jail New Jersey
Do you mind sharing slme of that information?
Can I get a up date please an thanks !!
Top notch documentary journalism !
Will the compass still work if there is no cellular reception?
Phones typically have sensors in them that detect earth's magnetic fields, so a cellular reception isn't necessary.
"Compass apps on their smartphone" in the middle of undeveloped jungle in the Darian gap, lol that's the most first world comment I've ever seen in my life. There is no possible way they have cell phone service out there.
plz we need a party 3 where u can update us about what happened to those guys
It's only God that can help us handles every problem that will arise every day.
Wow. Brings a tear to my eye
It seems barely legal to watch this amazing docu for free.
This should remind us how lucky we are and shouldn't complain may God be with them and hope they find what they are looking for.
Why were they paying in USD?
Because it's the universal currency
jlarch3313 it's the currency of the entire world. That's why the U.S can sanction and ban foreign rogue states from trading in the US dollar. ( Like North Korea for EG, and Trump threatened such sanctions)
This reporter is so cool and accomodating
I wonder what happens when they reach the U.S.A.
my Cameroonian Mama hope you're fine. I'm still struggling with the war here now it's no more just in the North but even in the south west and North West.
Great docu!!! I really pray for those people. It's easier for us to judge them. But again everyone has its own story...
Bless all those seeking a better life. Good luck on your honest endeavours for a better life elsewhere. 🙏🏻❤️🌺🌍
I hope and pray they all made it back safely.
A water filter would of been handy
Yea that defintley would've been a worth while investment
Watching this really makes me feel glad to hsve the life i have and really makes my problems out to be minuscule. God Bless them all and good luck to all of them
I was the only woman in this journey and i was send back when i ever i watch this documentary full of tear 😢😢😢 in my eye i have been suffering for years now
i am so sorry if i could help you i would but i fear that wont happen
this was you in the video???
Our status in rich countries comes at a cost. What I mean is that for example, the clothes you wearing would cost way more if were made by European hands instead of Bangladeshi rising from maybe 10$ to 50/100$, because you will need to pay at least 10$ hour the person making it instead of 3$ for a day of work in poor countries. Are you willing to pay 100$ for a product instead of 10$ so one Bangladeshi guy can earn 20$ a day instead not feeling the need to migrate? This is just scratching the surface of the topic.
These guys have high spirits as a team.. they what is called the spirits of soldiers
Poor, poor Evelin :(
Poor all of them!! I sit here wishing I could help her... Makes u realize that no matter how bad I "think" my world is, hers is much worse. She could die there, all of them could. Sorry world we have created.
who in his her right mind would have kids there? Dont they use their brains?
Someone know were diss place exactly??
dude, they just showed the map at the start of the show..
@17:00 I feel sorry 4 the guy he says "The hardest bit is over" he doesn't realise he still has Mexico 2 cross , from what I have seen that will surely be the hardest! I hope he made it.
Great documentary... Thank you for your hard work...
Wow... You guys are absolutely amazing to have filmed this whole thing... wow... Thank you...
Did they make it back?
I was the only woman in this journey after entrain the USA 🇺🇸 i was send back 😢😢when i ever i watch this documentary full of tear 😢😢😢 i have been suffering ever since i came no way for me
The journey Is great ..I hope they got to their destinations and started a new life.
a little sensentionalizing here, if he lost his cameraman whos filming him, but I get why Vice has to do this, to make it more interesting I suppose
this isn't vice and shots would've been added in the edits
Great video
This is heartbreaking may God help us.
I wish the entire world is like free country like America ,so we live Free ...in every way we can
People must fight corruption. Where there is corruption, no free speech so no free country.
Where are they now?
Probably sitting in some gang infested hood in Chicago wishing they were back in their own country.
