When I first heard this in the 80s, I loved it because finding b-sides was so difficult at the time. But my friend played it on his crappy sound system, and I couldn't hear all the lyrics, and I never used the word "horn" for a trumpet - so I thought it was about a man with a horn...ON HIS HEAD 🤣 but thankfully they still wanted to see him play.
Love this song!..one of my favorite B sides!
The Miles Davis tribute seems likely, since the first line of the song is "They come from miles around just to hear him play". I don't hate it, but there's not a lot there to love, either. I'm glad he didn't put it on "Hello...". Thanks for pointing out the song. I've never heard it.
I agree that it doesn't fit with 'No Jacket' era, but I do quite like it.
Reminds me of a later track by The Who.
I actually like all of Phil's B Sides, and this one is great too. The Miami Vice track I like too very much. It would have been nice to have a full sing with that one.
Love how much you care about Phil and his music. I totally agree with your review……this is an odd one. I still love the drums…..I can leave the rest!
Hearing This Just 5 Minutes ago. I felt it has a Touch of Motown. There is a Live Pro Shot Man With A Horn on UA-cam. It's Definitely a B Side Track.
I've never heard of this song before, but I actually like it. The sax solo makes absolutely no sense though.
This song is ok, but the other b-side he did from No Jacket Required titled “I Like The Way”, was way better and more commercial I think. Please do a review on that one next perhaps?
Hi Scott bro,
maybe it's just a made up funny story about don myrick,or Phil was just bored and suddenly don myrick walked in the room and then came an idea.😊
I have no feelings at all for this song. It’s just there. The rewrite for Miami Vice worked. And the tune made sense for that show, but it’s not a song I listen to. Definitely should not have been on any album. To me, its kind of a throw away song.
That’s such an awesome song I can’t stand it. Too bad it was never remastered. But it is on “Other Sides” digital release.
Interesting track in that musically it’s quite a jolly little track.
The lyrics are dreadful.
Phil has done some great b-sides. This is not one of them.
