Ristar was one of my favorite childhood games. I really do hope they make a remake if Crash is getting one, Ristar should too. It would really mean the world to me.
how have I not heard about your channel?! your stuff is amazing.. and the love you have for sega is refreshing!! I binge watched your stuff yesterday and today lol thanks for the enjoyable content.
I actually got Kid Chameleon AND Greendog when I got my Sega Genesis, they were the first two games I owned, I really liked the bonus levels in Greendog(where you fly that little heli-unicycle thinger), Kid was good just really frustrating to play(controls, weird difficulty spikes because of level teleporting), the next game I got was Decap Attack starring Chuck D. Head, i was pretty fun, but a little confusing to me back then. My all time favorites are Shinobi 3(this IS my favorite), SoR 2 + 3, Sonic 2, Earthworm Jim, Road Rash(all of them), Xmen 2 and Toejam and Earl, there's a bunch more a love but these are the ones I remember liking the most! I wish you made videos more frequently, though, I understand you can't rush this level of quality.
I'm really happy to see Alien Storm on this list, I've got some very fond memories of playing this as a child. Hell even my mother used to play this with me, it's a cracking game.
+Daniel “Slope's Game Room” Ibbertson just thought i'd point out that 18 wheeler pro trucker did get a sequel called the king of route 66 which came out in arcades & then the ps2. ;)
My List 10. The Ooze 9. Comix Zone 8. Fighters Megamix 7. Burning Rangers 6. Sonic Chronicles 2, or just another Sonic RPG 5. Resonance of Fate 4. Quartet 3. Segagaga 2. Chu Chu Rocket 1. Skies of Arcadia
Hey man, found my way here from Larry Bundy's channel. Cool video, I wholeheartedly agree with your number one choice, Alien Storm was great. I've got to be captain pedantic pants about one thing though; The big difference between Scud Race and Scud Race Plus wasn't just that the tracks could be played in reverse, it added the 5th 'Super Beginner' track (the one set in the house with the bowling pins) and the four bizarre bonus vehicles exclusively for it (bus, tank, rocket car and cat - It also had a new FMV-like attract mode as well)
Fair play, I knew about the track and vehicles to be fair but not the FMV. I tip my hat to you my good sir lol :D Thanks for checking out my channel mate :D
Daniel Ibbertson My pleasure mate. If you get a chance, have a little peruse of mine - I'm a Sega fanboy like yourself with a particular interest in Sega's old skool arcade racers.
Excellent video as usual--I usually don't dig "top" list stuff, but the good YT'ers like yourself are a definite exception. Love that Skies of Arcadia, and always longed for a sequel. I'm convinced that me and you have really similar tastes in gaming.
Honestly, that game haunts me to this day. I played the GameCube version of it when I was still working at GameStop. I never got to finish it. Even if they didn't do a sequel, I wish they would at least do a remastered release on PC and current gen. I just remember multiple times that the game blew me away with the story and the various game mechanics it unlocked. "Oh, I can do this now?" and "Oh wow, this is like a completely different game now!" moments abound when I played it.
Wow. I never realized it until you mentioned it! "Werehog" Sonic DOES have a lot of Ristar-like qualities. Take out the Day levels and reskin the night, and you have a game that would have been an excellent Ristar sequel instead of blaspheming Sonic.
Hell, make it a team up. Replace Chip with Ristar, let Sonic do the speedy day stages and Ristar handle the brawly night ones, maybe have NiGHTS fuse with them for some aerial bonus stages set in Nightopia, call it something like "Sonic Dream Team" or "Sonic Dreamers" (*) then set out one set of buckets to catch the drool from all the reviewers and fans, and another to catch all their money. (*) To capitalize on Sonic's name recognition factor, like with the Sonic And All-Stars Racing series, naturally.
Excellent video! I agree so much with you. It always seemed to me that SEGA's "downfall" was helped by its bad sequel management... They let promising franchises down (RISTAR would make an awesome 3D game with its mechanics) and made crappy sequels (WTF was Golden Axe 3?). If you allow me, I'd list some not-mentioned-games that SHOULD exist. 1- Sword of Vermillion 2: the first one was a bizarre Action RPG. With a few improvements I am sure it could become a hit. Maybe not in the Mega Drive, though. 2- Phantasy Star 5: Seriously... Why on Earth did they have to end the series? I hated Phantasy Star 4 for that very reason. 3- Kenseiden 2: Samurai, Old Japan, Ghosts and Demons... What could go wrong? It was one of the best games on the Master System 4- Wonder Boy Series: Wonder Boy 5 was a gem. The next game with the girl wasn't that good... WB 7 had to redeem it! 5- Bio Hazard Battle 2: I adore this rather obscure shooter. A 2 player version on 32X or Sega CD, in a time when SHMUPs were still around, would certainly be worth a look. Honorable mentions: Panzer Dragon 3, Landstalker 2, Eternal Champions 3 (for Saturn or Dreamcast, as a 2D fighting game!!), a Phantasy Star 3 remake and Altered Beast 2. This would have made me a happier person...
+MadFugu You gave some awesome suggestions there my friend. Surprised this comment has not had more thumbs ups! I will start the ball rolling for you :D Cheers for commenting mate
There were some real nostalgia trips in this video! I remember loving most of the Genesis / Megadrive games you listed. I wish I had played Alienstorm as a kid. I bet I would have loved it.
Skies of Arcadia is SUCH a lovely game. Charming characters, engaging story, BEAUTIFUL environments, amazing music; everything was on point. Even if I can't get a sequel, I AT LEAST want a port.
Sega has so many awesome IP's which they never use for some reason - Shinobi, Jet set radio, Golden axe, Streets of rage, Billy Hatcher, Powerstone, Crazy Taxi etc etc etc etc. Instead all we get is Sonic who's games get worse with every new release.
There were several sequels of some of these games such as the Golden Axe sequel for the PS3 and X360 and Shinobi on the 3DS (very good game and worthy of the name) and enhanced re-releases like the Dreamcast collection on Steam.
Bloody fantastic video mate, so many great games here! Burning Rangers is a personal favorite of mine, absolutely adore that game! Although I must ask you one thing, how an earth did you manage to get such clean high resolution footage of SCUD Race? The game looks gorgeous, much better than I remember. Heck I played it up in Brighton a few months back. Subbed, keep up the good work!
The first 2 games were headed by Yuji Naka, but were not made by Sonic Team. Only 4 of the Online-related games, which many prefer to ignore, were made by Sonic Team. Originally, neither was Puyo-Puyo, come to think of it. That's just an IP they got from the now-defunct Compile company.
Ristar is pronounced with a short i sound. Like "wrist-ar" rather than "ry-star". Most people make that mispronunciation, but given that the Japanese title is リスタ (Risuta) we have confirmation that it uses the short i sound.
I've played the game so much that I can get through it in about a half hour. Game literally boils down to managing your items and health (Especially for the paper airplane move) and knowing the best routes for each chapter.
You mentioned my favorite game of all time! Skies of Arcadia has by far the best characters, world, story, and battle system I've had the pleasure of playing. I would KILL to see a modern game with the same battle system, ship battles included, that had even half the writing style.
Man, I still remember the lead up to the Saturn being released, all the game magazines were hyping games like Clockwork Knight, Legend of Dragoon(i think that was the name?guess i don't remember that well!), Kileak: the DNA imperative(or some shit like that)and more. It pains me to see Sega struggling with such a great collection of awesome IPs as well man, really enjoy your videos, thanks for making them! SEGA!!
Amazing video Dan, so much work went into that clearly. I love the bit where you're listing games and then you come in and talk over yourself haha. I really like Kid Chameleon, I own it too. I first heard about Propeller Arena at Play Blackpool earlier this year, they had it set up for people to play. I got used to seeing the AM2 logo on games and I totally agree, you could never go wrong if you saw it. I absolutely, and I mean ABSOLUTELY love Ristar, the graphics, colours and ahhhhh that soundtrack, just absolutely stunning! I would love to see Ristar resurface! I own Comix Zone on the Mega Drive and my copy came with the limited edition CD as well which is decent, but yeah I like the concept of the game. I would love to see a ChuChu Rocket sequel, such a fun and addictive game. Haha Samba De Amigo, I like that game, I enjoyed the version on the Wii as well with the Wiimote and Nunchuck. I have Skies of Arcadia but have yet to really dive into it, I really need to. What a beautiful soundtrack! Great cameo from Larry, brilliant. I love Alien Storm, though I only have it on the Master System, never really experienced it on the Mega Drive, I love the train track level, great fast pace to it. Dan, fantastic commentary mate and I love your little observations where you give extra info about other games to compare to the main games you're talking about, excellent knowledge and such a brilliantly structured video, high enjoyable and engaging, so impressed mate, a pleasure to watch! :D
+Colossal Vids ahhhhhhhh im gushing buddy :) so happy you enjoyed it. Yeah this video was a bit of a bitch to make if im honest as I spent aaaaaages working on it and even messed up a few times before I uploaded... Originally I had Madworld at #10 lol
I absolutely loved it mate, your videos are just insanely good, they're good enough to be shown on tv on a show about video games! Your hard work is very much appreciated! :D
I could see that too as there also was a Super Famicom version of the anime as well though Sega did published the game in Japan. Why they didn't published it over here for Saturn is anyone's guest as Working Design had to pick up localization for it.
12:28 That is the game I have played on my Windows 98 PC. I was in the second grade when a friend of mine had lend me his copy of his game. It was worth playing. Not many people know about it's PC release.
Love your show! Huge SEGA fanboy here too. I would add RANGER X to this list. Really loved the techno-transformer-imagination to that shooter. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranger_X Keep the great vids coming!
Ranger X was one of the few games I owned as a child, and until I got older I could never find anyone who knew WTF I was talking about. I'm so happy I had picked this game at the store as a kid, because it still holds up well even today in all departments. Classic.
I remember the box change from Red Alert 2 quite vividly, even here in Europe. Though the 3rd Soviet level where you capture "the pathetic capitalist shrine known as the World Trade Centre" (you don't really, you capture a Battle Lab that gets turned into a Psychic Beacon next to two buildings that are supposed to represent the Twin Towers) is still in it.
Dude, we have the same taste in games when it comes to DER NUMMER 1. Alien Storm is by far one of the best side scroll beat em up´s of alltime! I gave it a good spot in one of my videos too, because IT IS THAT GOOD Maybe we can convince Christian Whitehead to do a propper 2D sprite based sequel on that awesome "One Hit Wonder" ^^
I still can't believe they haven't made a sequel to Skies of Arcadia... I'm just about through Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and it got me thinking about that game again. So I'll probably be replaying it again for the fourth time soon. One game not mentioned that I wish would have gotten a sequel is Gunstar Heroes.
I used to play Alienstorm a lot, was a very fun game, but I think my number one would be Eternal Champions, the premise of the games story was so good and would have allowed for some very interesting characters.
Skies of Arcadia is the first traditional RPG outside of Pokemon I played and could not put down. I would travel with my VMU everywhere I went and played the mini game to earn money for the game. As a teen I would beat the game erase my save and get back into it. When I brought my dreamcast again 7 years ago my retro game shop did not have the American version so I had to spend 50 bucks on Ebay for it and do not regret it. Hands down a must buy for any dreamcast only and a must play for rpg lovers.
Nice vid. Daniel. Two questions: Where did does the clip with the live action vampire come from? What is the name of the song played for magic knight? Thanks
I'd like to see more sequels to Sega games from the 8 and 16 bit era than anything from the Saturn era forward. I'm going to leave all the Genesis and MS era games you listed just so more can be added. So here's my 10 Sega IP's I'd like to see get sequels that never did, in no particular order. 10. Sega Ninja 09. Black Belt 08. Kenseiden 07. Maze Hunter 06. Cyborg Hunter 05. Altered Beast 04. Bonanza Bros. 03. Zaxxon 02. Bio-Hazard Battle 01. Astro Warrior
Mother Fuckin' Alienstorm! Always had dibs on Slammer, that self destruct special move was hilarious and was pretty much the Gilius Thunderhead of the game with his superior attacks.
Well if you're a werido like me who remembers history, I'd be kinda hesitant about Propeller Arena because I've seen photos of the plane that hit the Empire State Building.
Unfortunately, I only got my Saturn a couple of years ago, but I picked up the game Astal and I loved that game! Unfortunately it never got a sequel to my memory.
I'd like to know your thoughts on the Sega Saturn game Astal. I had to get me a Sega Saturn during last year for the Astal game. its character designs are creative, the music is melodious, the 2D sprite work is beautiful, and the gameplay is rather different then most platformers where you either throw enemies behind you, pound them with a double fist in midair, or blow them away. Sure, its levels were fairly short and arcadish, but with a proper sequal, they could really flesh out this series and characters, not to mention give off some rather gorgous 2D visual art designs with the tech we have nowadays
Astal is a game series I have looked at quite a few times for this channel. I have played a little bit but really need to look into the series a hbit more #WatchThisSpace as i will defo be looking at it somepoint in the future :)
Skies of Arcadia is absolutely my favourite Sega game of all time - enough to have it tattooed on me. Still really unsure as to whether I'd ever want a sequel to it though. Now an HD remake using the Valkyria Chronicles engine (yep, cameo sold it on me)? DEAR LORD YES.
+Daniel “Slope's Game Room” Ibbertson Oh if you haven't played VC I can't recommend it enough. Keep up the good work by the way, Larry and yourself are two of the best videogame historians on UA-cam. Most only cover US history, so it's nice to have some chaps covering the UK/Europe too.
Ranger X and Alien Soldier are two more. Im not sure what qualifies as a sega IP as some games were released by sega but created by different companies. Otherwise Id like to see Mercs and Forgotten Worlds get sequels too. Good list
I have no idea what happened to the Dreamcast or why, to be honest. But even though I've never played it, I've always wanted one, even before Sega went under.
Unbound Saga for PSP is basically Comix Zone but crappier and Nostalgia for DS is basically Skies of Arcadia but shorter. Now if only Alisia Dragoon, Alien Storm, Ristar, Billy Hatcher, Burning Rangers, Sands of Destruction, Madworld, Resonance of Fate, and Kolibri all had sequels that would be sweet.
I had the SNES first and enjoyed the depth of colour and great sound, even though the library was fairly small..........in comparison to SEGA, which I came to appreciate the massive selection AND the variety of genres and designs. I was lucky to eventually own both systems - I survived the Console Wars......by cheering for both 🏆 (yep, I just held the coats and purses of all the combatants 😬)
P Ferreira I know, but Challenge from the Darkside always felt more like a Upgrade or Plus version with Amazing Add ons. But yeah, so many sega properties need to be remembered.
Chakan was going to have a sequel for the Dreamcast If I remember correctly. I think Bernie Stolar had something to do with it's cancellation (another reason to keep hating him).
P Ferreira AND is because of him that the Saturn was discontinued worldwide, even though it was doing fine in Japan, so even the japanese have reasons to hate him too!
SEGA is a company with brilliant creative minds and a batshit lunatic management.
+Daniel Ziltener Couldn't agree more!
yup
Ristar was one of my favorite childhood games. I really do hope they make a remake if Crash is getting one, Ristar should too. It would really mean the world to me.
how have I not heard about your channel?! your stuff is amazing.. and the love you have for sega is refreshing!! I binge watched your stuff yesterday and today lol thanks for the enjoyable content.
+RewindMike ahhhh buddy thats sweet :) thanks so much :)
The Greendog music just propelled my childhood right into my face!
I'm really happy to see Alien Storm on this list, I've got some very fond memories of playing this as a child. Hell even my mother used to play this with me, it's a cracking game.
+Lost in the Warp Pipe I absolutely love it spes the ridiculous bosses lol
That STI bass line takes me back.
COMIX ZONE IS FOREVER THE BIGGEST CLIFFHANGER OF MY FUCKIN' LIFE!
Most excellent video Sir, Kudos! :)
+Larry Bundy Jr MAssive thanks for the last minute cameo buddy :)
Daniel Ibbertson
No worries dude :)
+Daniel “Slope's Game Room” Ibbertson just thought i'd point out that 18 wheeler pro trucker did get a sequel called the king of route 66 which came out in arcades & then the ps2. ;)
I got it on PS2!!!
Just sounded like you talking to yourself on two different quality microphones.
I know you're not to keen on fighter games so I'm not surprised that you didn't pick Eternal Champions but that is another game that needs a sequel.
Randy Bradley I was playing that last night and thought the same thing!
Eternal Champions had a sequel for the Mega CD.
P Ferreira I just found that out today watching a review from Kim Justice! Check out his channel
squills1 I get enough Kimble Justice as it is thanks.
Eternal Champions isn't that great. Well, the Genesis version isn't great.
I had no idea that Alien Storm got so much love! Not my favorite Sega game by far, but it's cool to see that it has a following.
+Antonio Rodriguez i think its more stule than anything else. Loved the game
There is also a Ristar cameo in shenmue in the form of a capsule toy. Gotta love sega.
My List
10. The Ooze
9. Comix Zone
8. Fighters Megamix
7. Burning Rangers
6. Sonic Chronicles 2, or just another Sonic RPG
5. Resonance of Fate
4. Quartet
3. Segagaga
2. Chu Chu Rocket
1. Skies of Arcadia
Hey man, found my way here from Larry Bundy's channel. Cool video, I wholeheartedly agree with your number one choice, Alien Storm was great. Good cameo with Guru Larry; keep up the good work Dj, ur doing the lords work!
+nickeltuesday ahhhhh thanks mate :)
I believe SEGA considered Opa-Opa from the Fantasy Zone games as a mascot briefly.
Excellent video as usual--I usually don't dig "top" list stuff, but the good YT'ers like yourself are a definite exception.
Love that Skies of Arcadia, and always longed for a sequel. I'm convinced that me and you have really similar tastes in gaming.
+Jimmy Hapa (Import Gaming FTW!) If im gonna be honest I dont normally play RPGs but sometimes one andomly grabs my attention lol
Honestly, that game haunts me to this day. I played the GameCube version of it when I was still working at GameStop. I never got to finish it. Even if they didn't do a sequel, I wish they would at least do a remastered release on PC and current gen.

i remember renting kid chameleon as a kid, really liked it. really great list, really enjoyed the vid :)
+Odd pod Thank you mate, II'm not sure how long it wll be until my next top 10 but I really liked this one
Daniel Ibbertson yeah it was really good, maybe top 10 cheat codes?
Man, I would just be happy with a " Good Frame Rate Edition " of Burning Rangers.
I 2nd this
If you love arcade racers so much, I HIGHLY recommend you play Ridge Racer (more importantly, Ridge Racer 6 or 7)
Sonic Unleashed should've been a Ristar game.
+AlWikowonkavitz Never thought of that lol
great comment.
Wow. I never realized it until you mentioned it! "Werehog" Sonic DOES have a lot of Ristar-like qualities. Take out the Day levels and reskin the night, and you have a game that would have been an excellent Ristar sequel instead of blaspheming Sonic.

I wouldn't care if Sonic unleashed was a bubsy game just anything but sonic.

Cheers for commenting mate
kenseiden is such a fantastic game all around.
Seriously, SCUD Race *NEEDS* a home port and a sequel too!
Fantastic work Dan!
+Oliver Harper Thanks as always my man :)
Alien Storm is one of the game that gave me nightmare when I was a child ... great game indeed and the story is so ... scarier than alien
At LEAST we're getting an actual 2D Sonic game... & Knuckles.
I am super happy :) Be sure to sub to my 2nd channel I will be doing an opinion piece on that reveal over the next day or 2
Skies of Arcadia: Legends is stunning! It is by far and away my favourite JRPG x
No game simply compares to it.
I think pulse man needs a sequel too
+Feeso Couldn't agree more, if I ever do a follow up that game is getting added
Awesome!
Magic Knight Rayearth wasn't the only game that came out. There was a more traditional RPG on the SNES and a sequel was on the Game Gear.
+Gregorio Cruz o really? I tip my hat my good sir
+Gregorio Cruz o really? I tip my hat my good sir
Billy Hatcher and the giant egg :c
+SirAjae I feel like that game has aged fairly badly

I really didn't like Billy Hatcher
Serpico's Beard
Sonic Forces and Mania are shaping out to be great games.
because those games don't sell as well (please see Shinobi on 3DS)
powerstone is capcom

+RetroGamerGuardian90 So glad ya liked it, a friend of mine captured the footage, all i know is that it was emulated
"If you don't see these two guys on it..."
Where's Phantasy Star?
The first 2 games were headed by Yuji Naka, but were not made by Sonic Team.
Only 4 of the Online-related games, which many prefer to ignore, were made by Sonic Team.
Originally, neither was Puyo-Puyo, come to think of it. That's just an IP they got from the now-defunct Compile company.
Excellent video! Glad I'm a subscriber!
+cpnnpr I'm glad your a subscriber too, thanks so much mate :)
a guy named Gordon....... fighting a bunch of aliens.......sounds like half life was the sequel you're looking for lol
Ristar is pronounced with a short i sound. Like "wrist-ar" rather than "ry-star". Most people make that mispronunciation, but given that the Japanese title is リスタ (Risuta) we have confirmation that it uses the short i sound.
I think Ristar is pronounced "ry-star" perhaps it's short for Rising Star.
I can't get past level 2 on comic zone
There's a second level?! XD
lol
I've played the game so much that I can get through it in about a half hour. Game literally boils down to managing your items and health (Especially for the paper airplane move) and knowing the best routes for each chapter.
I feel like I'm the only one that DESPISES Comix Zone. Only one life in a game that is insanely hard after the first stage.......no!
ALIEN STORRRRM! Every once in a while I hopefully google the term "Alien Storm HD remake". One day...
all we can do is pray
I'm more of a Sega person, so when I watched this I was heartbroken to hear no more sequels
Excellent list. My only addition would've been Bonanza Bros
+nobel 11 (Walter Hunt) bonanza almost made the list... Great game
Scud Race had huge Copyrighted issues, hell, Sega was really bad with Copyright actually, using them without asking.
+ronan demiautte ooooooo do tell more?
You mentioned my favorite game of all time! Skies of Arcadia has by far the best characters, world, story, and battle system I've had the pleasure of playing. I would KILL to see a modern game with the same battle system, ship battles included, that had even half the writing style.
If Rystar was a franchise they could of made a Rystar and Rayman crossover game.
Excellent effort as always buddy. Alien storm is a quality game and worthy of the top spot!!
+The Games Shed It sure is :)
Bro your Chanel is awesome, gold, epic
+Silent Bob ahhhhhh dude thanks so much thats awesome of you
Thanks to you Buddy, your Content is one of the Best on UA-cam.You deserve much much more Subscribers
watching a few of your videos today. keep it up 👍 really good quality videos. I'm hooked .
+crimson bolt Ahhh tahts great massive thanks mate :)
Good list! Burning Rangers would definitely be at the top of mine. I'd toss in Astal and Rad Mobile too.
+Saturn Memories hahaha Rad Mobile, yeah Astal almost made the list for me :)
Daniel Ibbertson There aren't many transcontinental arcade racers out there. I'd love to see another.
Couldn't agree more, and sega know how to make good arcady racers better than anyone else
A sequel to Astal would be awesome. Or even an HD rerelease.
I'd certainly be up for some more Rad Mobile.
Larry sent me. Glad he did!
I am happy he did, thanks so much for checking out the channel. Hope you enjoy your stay :D
Just watched your Earthworm Jim History video, really digging your stuff bud! Keep it up
Thank you
Man, I still remember the lead up to the Saturn being released, all the game magazines were hyping games like Clockwork Knight, Legend of Dragoon(i think that was the name?guess i don't remember that well!), Kileak: the DNA imperative(or some shit like that)and more.
Tv ya say... Watch. This. Space
another excellent video. I really appreciate this channel 👏
+Chris J mrbritishempire2015 cheers chris
Uh, Magic Knight Rayearth isn't even a Sega IP.
I could see that too as there also was a Super Famicom version of the anime as well though Sega did published the game in Japan. Why they didn't published it over here for Saturn is anyone's guest as Working Design had to pick up localization for it.
was born in 1997, so I never got to experience Sega at their peak. but I still love them so much. I want more from them so bad.
DANG. You busted out Alien Storm as your number one?! I knew I liked this channel for a reason! Definitely better than Golden Axe!
For 5: Heard rumors that Clamp said no so that's why there is no sequel. They own the rights after all to the characters.
12:28 That is the game I have played on my Windows 98 PC. I was in the second grade when a friend of mine had lend me his copy of his game. It was worth playing. Not many people know about it's PC release.
+Æmer0x true that, great game :)
Skies of Arcadia is one of my favorite games, I played it a lot in my dreamcast and also the GameCube version
+israel lopez portillo same here man, serrrrrrriously long game
Love your show! Huge SEGA fanboy here too. I would add RANGER X to this list. Really loved the techno-transformer-imagination to that shooter.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranger_X
Keep the great vids coming!
Great video as usual mate, alien storm was an awesome game and definitely should of had a sequel!
+Retro Heaven couldn't agree more, I would be happy if they experimented with it too!
Dude, we have the same taste in games when it comes to DER NUMMER 1.
Alien Storm is by far one of the best side scroll beat em up´s of alltime!
I gave it a good spot in one of my videos too, because IT IS THAT GOOD
Maybe we can convince Christian Whitehead to do a propper 2D sprite based sequel on that awesome "One Hit Wonder" ^^
+denNES danMAKU goddam i would love a good new aide acroller froma sega property... HOW HAS THIS NOT HAPPENED!!!
The Question is, how does SEGA got to the point where there ignoring EVERY CLASSIC SERIES owned by them???
I still can't believe they haven't made a sequel to Skies of Arcadia... I'm just about through Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and it got me thinking about that game again. So I'll probably be replaying it again for the fourth time soon.
One game not mentioned that I wish would have gotten a sequel is Gunstar Heroes.
14:18 I'd actually love a Samba de amigo sequel
Alien Storm? OK, you're cool- subscribed.
OMG Comix Zone I totally forgot about this brilliant beat em up!!
CHA-KRAN! CHA-KRAN! CHA-KRAN!
This is not the end [restart]
Truly awesome video!
+N3r0 The H3r0 Truly Awesome Comment :D
Totally agree. Skies of Arcadia sorely needs a proper sequel. Same with Comix Zone.
I ad no idea ol' Greendog was a potential Sega mascot!
Great list! Was there ever a sequel to Gunstar Heroes? If not that should be topping this list. That game was the boss of them all
DUDE I loved Alienstorm!!!
Same here mate :D
Nice vid. Daniel. Two questions:
Where did does the clip with the live action vampire come from?
What is the name of the song played for magic knight?
Thanks
I'd like to see more sequels to Sega games from the 8 and 16 bit era than anything from the Saturn era forward. I'm going to leave all the Genesis and MS era games you listed just so more can be added. So here's my 10 Sega IP's I'd like to see get sequels that never did, in no particular order.
10. Sega Ninja
09. Black Belt
08. Kenseiden
07. Maze Hunter
06. Cyborg Hunter
05. Altered Beast
04. Bonanza Bros.
03. Zaxxon
02. Bio-Hazard Battle
01. Astro Warrior
Amazing video! I play now Ristar! Congrats!
+16 Life Games hahahaha, glad you went off to play it, i need to start it again
"In a New York-like setting" as the player flies around what is clearly a representation of Chicago.
awesome, larry said subscribe, so i did! loving the sega goodness!
Larry is a good guy :) Hope you enjoy your stay :D
Weird, I was wondering if Kid Chameleon was going to be mentioned and it's the first one. I love that game. :)
Sega should port Skies of Arcadia to PC.
+Domino Picamation It is crazy that they have not done this already
hell yeah judge dredd comics are awesome
Indeed they are :D
scudrace makes me think of beetle adventure racing on the N64 also a greatly underappreciated game with lots of crazy little details and shortcuts
Mother Fuckin' Alienstorm! Always had dibs on Slammer, that self destruct special move was hilarious and was pretty much the Gilius Thunderhead of the game with his superior attacks.
+ArmouredLemming Not if your at my house! you get to play as one of the other 2 with the mad katz controller!
Well if you're a werido like me who remembers history, I'd be kinda hesitant about Propeller Arena because I've seen photos of the plane that hit the Empire State Building.
I so agree with this list!!! alien storm was my first Mega Drive game
+SuperHns ahhhhh thats great :)
I remember Magic Knight Rayearth. It was hard as heck to find.
Nice. I feel like it is so overlooked on account of its american boxart and needs some kind of recognition as a valuable Sega character
Oh man, Kid Chameleon. So hard, but so fun.
Valkyrie is supposed to be fantastic and I think its a nice fit
+Daniel “Slope's Game Room” Ibbertson Oh if you haven't played VC I can't recommend it enough.
Keep up the good work by the way, Larry and yourself are two of the best videogame historians on UA-cam. Most only cover US history, so it's nice to have some chaps covering the UK/Europe too.
Alex Blackmore The retro game shop I go in are obsessed with the game. It's damn cheap too for a PS4 game :D
+Daniel “Slope's Game Room” Ibbertson The steam port is really rather good too and seems to always be on sale.
Ranger X and Alien Soldier are two more. Im not sure what qualifies as a sega IP as some games were released by sega but created by different companies. Otherwise Id like to see Mercs and Forgotten Worlds get sequels too. Good list
I loved that Shadowrun on either system was SO different - I adored both but came to like the less-attractive SEGA version for it's massive depth 👌
I have no idea what happened to the Dreamcast or why, to be honest. But even though I've never played it, I've always wanted one, even before Sega went under.
What's the song that plays during Magic Knight Rayearth?
Very nice!! 🤘🏻
NO!.... YOU'RE VERY NICE!! :)
Nice list... could use a sequel for Resonance of Fate, Sands of Destruction, or Infinite Space (my personal favorite Sega-made DS game) though...
+NotABot55 OOOOO nice selections. I am getting so many great suggestions that I am tempted to do a part 2!!!
ETERNAL CHAMPIONS and Chakan.....
those need sequels.
Eternal Champions had a sequel but yeah it needs another sequel definitely.
Jorge Enrique Riera That guy is the reason Dreamcast never had a chance.
P Ferreira
AND is because of him that the Saturn was discontinued worldwide, even though it was doing fine in Japan, so even the japanese have reasons to hate him too!
