The hi-hat is one of the most important instruments on the drum set. For many drummers, it may even be the most important one. I have a hard time playing favorites, but I do have a long list of hi-hat sounds that I think work really well.
Beyond having hi-hat cymbals that sound good and a stand that works properly, it’s important to have a variety of techniques to access all of the possible sounds.
This is a better ska punk tutorial than all of the ska punk tutorials on youtube. And it's not even a ska punk tutorial. I love it

I used to play drums in high school with a kit borrowed from a schoolmate, before switching to guitar at some point in my early 20s.
Now I'm in my 50s and recently got me a second hand Mapex kit, and starting to re-learn (or properly learn, should I say) the drums.
After watching this and some other videos of yours, I don't even want to get near the toms or cymbals before I master the essentials, grip, hands, snare, bass drum and hi hat, all things that I foolishly dismissed as a teenager because I found them boring and I wanted to play Led Zeppelin and Rush songs right away, go figure...
Your channel (I'm subscribed, of course) has been a refreshing and inspirational finding, I love not only your incredible mastery of percussion and its nuances, but also the fact that you explain everything very clearly, and in a most accessible way to us non-professional wannabe drummers, with great attention to details like the movements of hands, wrists, fingers and feet.
I hope that re-starting from the basics following your lessons and advice will make up for any bad habits that I might drag from youth, and hopefully will also make up for my older body, since I don't have the speed and stamina that I used to have when I was 16.

You jst inspired me to drum again. I was in a motorcycle accident and my left leg wont bend at the knee so honestly I gave up drumming.i cant reach the hi hat with my foot.. but I drummed in jazz for years.. I been playing guitar but I'm gna buy new heads and beat the skins again...thank you🖤

When I have a chance I watch your videos and you are a very talented musician and above excellence as an instructor. I practice your technic, not everyday but often, that I found a few months ago on getting my fingers stronger to control the rebound, single stroke, double stroke and I have to admit I see the difference from a while back to today. @@camiloops.official I'm left handed, but I have the drums set up as right handed. That's how I was playing from the begining, so I struggle with getting in time with left hand on the snare. This could solve my problem. Unfortunitely got sick, so I was not able to try it yet.

I usually don’t take too much interest in Paradiddle based drumming videos but your technique has potential for many interesting musical applications to help the feel of a song-beat-production’s value. Brava
the paradiddle tap is called a grandma, in marching percussion grandmas are commonly used by keeping all the rights as taps and accenting the lefts, its fun to backstick every other left
Haha that's awesome. Thanks so much. I was playing "Grandmas" and didn't even know it. Yay learning. I never really got in to all the hybrid rudiments, but I will defintely go back and check out so of the sticking on those to see if I've been using any of them in my playing. Thanks again.
@@camiloops.official yeee no problem, another rudiment you should look into is a book report and all of the accent places, so if you play a book report with the accent on the flam (the 3) then it makes for a great groove, just make sure to play everything else low to really bring out the accent, you gotta really have that control down so they dont get sloppy

You're so good ma'am, i'm a member of a local band here in my place playing on drums, but am not as good as you, i'm just listening to my favorite bands like AC/DC, DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH etc..and just foregoing what i've heard on a cartridge before, with my sticks practicing hitting my pillows hehe for i have'nt my own drums. I really love the way you play it ma'am, you're so good, whew hehe...! "Island of Mindanao Here, Philippines.."
For learning perspective don’t prefer rock genre, its easy, since you are already in a band, probably you can play simple rock grooves. I upgraded myself by listening to Legendary Buddy Rich and Lamb of God (Metal) and currently taking few inspiration from Sarah Thawer, do check her channel too.
