- Found a player that solos the voices correctly (java SIDplay2), so all synchronization and ring modulation effects are visible. I also wrote a program to draw the wave forms instead of filming my oscilloscope! :)

This is what the C64 did better than anything else.
Great, big, droning square waves.
There really is nothing better.
4:08 love the throwback to Last Ninja 1 - Wastelands. One of the best compositions on the C64 ever.
Very good job on the visulization, Rolf! .. this is nothing but amazing... The SID chip sounded and sounds nothing but magical when unleashed to full potential... kudos to the pioneers who designed the chip and the geniouses like Matt Gray who created masterpieces like this one ... it was jaw dropping back then... and still is...
i've never thought it could be that amazing to watch three pulsing lines. gimme some mo'
It's a lot greater than Tangerine Dream - Alchemy of the Heart
Yea, it really sounds a bit cooler than the original
Bollocks.
Der Knaller! Timewarp in to the early nineties! The Visual is Awsome!
Please do more SID Files! Like Last V8, Terramex, The Lightforce etc....
Still goosebumping 👌
underrated
Would be great to see one of these for The Last Ninja 1 (Loading music & First level) and Mutants
+retrogamer33 Actually there is nice reference to LN1 music in this :-)
But it's not the awesome loader music from Last Ninja
Underestimated. Great tune.

I still don't really understand what exactly the hard sync does... does it reset the phase of one oscillator at the frequency of another?
You answered your own question.
Max Greyfeather
Well it sounded like a reasonable explanation anyway, at least I don't know how ringmod does what it does :D
There's 4 diodes arranged in a ring, that modulate the waveform, usually the triangle wave.

In the SID this is done digitally, the MSB of the modulator invert the output bits of the triangle wave, reversing its output.
Should say Tangerine Dream's The Mansion as this is stolen directly from them.
Wow, really cool. How did you manage to keep the frequencies centered?
HauntHouse waveform synchronized by rising edge.
