It used to be for me to say no to people, until I remind myself everyday of my plan/goal everyday. People take and I need to lookout for myself and set a legacy for my son. I mean giving 10% away is not a problem, but dipping into extra money outside of my budget is....
That’s hard, but def not the hardest part when your insanely debt. Once you’ve climbed your way out of thousands of dollars in debt the lesson sticks in my opinion
@@ahmedkamran330 I tend to agree with you. The lesson sticks because your brain remembers the pain of being in debt, and we're wired to avoid reliving painful experiences.
Patience is the hardest part. It takes time to get out of debt and the initial enthusiasm can get hard to maintain when it takes months or years and motivation can get lost during that time. Learning patience is the hardest part for me.
The hardest part of getting out of debt is life happens. When you don't have a huge amount of wiggle room financially (and let's face it....a lot of people don't these days), $600 for a car repair, etc. goes on the credit card or comes out of meager savings. Now, you're $600 down again and either have to replace the savings or pay off the credit card for that plus whatever you owed to begin with. I'm not saying give up. Never give up, but things like this make it difficult for a lot of people to become completely debt free.
Of course. And that is precisely the reason why debt is so poisonous in the first place. Nevertheless, you have to keep digging until you get out of debt.
@Sir We Are About to Die dude, make it at home. It is cheaper and tastes a whole lot better. I watched Ken Rollins taco bell crunch wrap supreme video and it is awesome.
Hardest part is constant surprise expenses. Car maintenance. House damage. Medical bills. You make +3 months of progress & then get set back -5 months in 1 day. When it rains it pours sometimes.. but that’s the hidden price we pay for getting into this in the first place. Gotta white knuckle it for a few years
The hardest part is getting people around you to join you in the new found knowledge and "better way". Nearly everyone I knew was in debt when I started the journey. Only ONE of many friends were equally inspired. Smh
hardest thing is letting go of the feeling that tells you "but you deserve it. you can have it. you work so hard, you have to enjoy life a little" all the while knowing you only got into this mess because you have already done your fair share of "enjoying life a little" hahaha >.
For me, the hardest part is inertia. As you try to make a change, your whole past, everyone you know, and everything around you is still pointing to the person you were. You need to be the first change in your situation, you need to overcome everything that gives you a prolonged sense of guilt, and your change has to be independent of anything around you also wanting to change. Don't put conditions on your growth.
We got into a car payment on top of student loans. At first I was overwhelmed. Now I have a plan to put $2000 every single month towards debt until it is gone. We have a long way to go but am so thankful God showed us a path out of this mess. I'm sure there will be bumps and delays along the way but we will get there in no time 💪
Some people want vengeance on the people whom they think put them in their financial situation. When they find out it is the person in the mirror, the change starts.
Good point... this summer we saw that across the country with all the rioting and looting of small businesses, shops, restaurants... had nothing to do with social justice because they are caught up in their own victimhood.
I make it into a game. I just try to see how little money I can get by on and how much I can put on the credit card debt. It becomes a challenge month to month. Love watching that total debt go down on the baby steps app!
Maturity is delaying gratification. When you delay gratification, you realize the process works when you actually experience the growth... it’s absolutely beautiful
I think every aspect of getting out of debt is the hardest part depending on who you are and how you're wired. For me, I'm debt free but main thing that stops me from improving my bank balance faster are saying no and doing way too much research before I actually start something
As someone who comes from a traumatic background, the same is true for me. I often have tunnel vision, thinking that nothing will improve or that everything I want is too far out of reach.
I think Dr. John is really good at not jus explaining what you have to do to change your thoughts or behavior but WHY. I don’t know, he jus makes me feel like I’m normal with all the work I’ve had to do to change my life. It makes me feel less defective and like everyone else.
The key to stay out of debt is to stop competing with your neighbors about who drives a newer car or who has a bigger house. Be happy with what you have and you'll be out of debt forever
Yes! Apply that to other parts of your life that activate you or make you angry. What are you resisting? The book they recommend about the body keeping the score is excellent.
Yes-- because once the money is gone, it's gone until you get paid. There's no sychological high from seeing your allowance increase again once you've cleared the balance. That in and of itself discourages overspending.
because you want whatever it is you want to buy now, instead of being willing to wait and save up for it... todays society is now now now. Hardly anyone will wait a week to get what they want.
Best way to beat the credit card purchase is to stand back pause and calmly ask yourself is that item worth getting into debt for? Never is that particular item worth it!!!
It's very natural. You can't just turn off urges like a switch. Your brain was used to a certain status quo. Then you changed it quite drastically. You cannot blame yourself for having feelings of regret. But those feelings are not based on facts, so that's where you have to step in like the other commentators have advised you below.
