It's often true that people underestimate the importance of financial advisors until they feel the negative effects of emotional decision-making. That’s true. I’ve been there myself. I actually started working with an advisor, Joseph Nick Cahill. He’s helped all kinds of clients-from celebrities to regular folks like us. He’s amazing at laying out a clear strategy and helping you prioritize what really needs to be paid off first
Oh, I think I’ve heard of him. Isn’t he the one who works with people from all backgrounds, not just the high-net-worth clients? That’s reassuring because sometimes these advisors feel out of reach

40 now, and everything is paid for. Fortunately, I had a *pecuniary backdoors* teacher who taught me a lesson when I was 18 years old. I know it will happen, I just don't know when nor how --- my HELOC is a fixed 3.5% I owe nothing else -- no car - no credit cards - but the home insurance jumped from $1,800 annually to over $5,500 dollars.

Love your channel and love your tutorials. No debt, but want to tighten my budget. How do I input amounts that I've spent, but that my company reimburses me for on my budget sheet? Trying to save up as much as I can now for investments and paying off the mortgage before retirement. I'm spending more than I realise because I'm not tracking as closely as I should. Getting a credit card that offers Balance Transfer @ 0% (with 1-3% fee) seems like a great option to keep all debts in one basket. It also forces you to not to use the card so it slots you perfectly for aggressive debt payments.
This is what I did to buy some time paying off debt however I’m so bad at giving things a budget for random one off expenses such as our first baby shower 😅
0% APR promo offers are the best! Sometimes an existing credit card will offer it randomly, and may last like 12-18 months. The interest saved more than pays for the transfer fee.
Get a 0% interest card and pay all of your expenses with it. Pay off any debt with high interest with your income. Keep doing that until all your debt is paid off. It's the interest that is killing you. No balance transfer fees or interest. Get a gig job if you have to. Put any bonuses towards the debt with interest.
@@CandyLynn64 That's why you get the gig or part-time job. The 0% interest card shuffling is to keep you from getting deeper into debt with 25% interest rates.
Thanks Gabrielle. I think debt costs. Missed opportunities bc we are busy paying debt and working like crazy to pay for a mortgage, car, or expensive clothes that does not move you closer to financial freedom
I paid off $800 of debt just today. Now I have to recuperate that for my savings "Cash in Hand" which I took the money from. I don't owe any bank or anyone money other than myself. I just don't borrow money. PERIOD! All cash flows in and out from myself. I am here watching the video for the excel spreadsheet to make my own
Good grief, some people's children are just going to nitpick no matter what. I could hear and see you perfectly fine. And I am very glad I came across your content. Looking forward to checking out more.
Incredibly helpful video, thank you! I’m $23K in debt and starting to film my journey to financial freedom. Balancing travel in Southeast Asia and budgeting isn’t easy, but I’m learning! 😅 Anyone else here battling debt and feeling isolated? Just a reminder-we’re not alone in this :)
The "debt avalanche" method is waaay more efficient and will save you more in interest. It's fine to prefer the "debt snowball" personally, but if you are paying off debt _especially with a low-income_ and high debt balances you can't really afford to pay more interest for the sake of your feelings 🤷🏾♀️
Agreed, when I tackled my student loans I paid off the highest interest one first down to the lowest interest. Because paying off the higher interest gave me a huge boost of confidence and motivation.
@@Oneasianpersuasion I am doing this for my student loans as well, and it's working out great. It got easier to get to the principal of the loans over time, like the method intended.
yeah, but both methods are really slow if you don't have a lot of free money to apply in the method. VB is faster than both and way more efficient as it will take less time to put in place and less of a hassle as once you're in the method everything becomes automatic for you.
@@amandabaker7735could be referring to Velocity Banking. Not a financial advisor, but this is my thought process about it. Think of it kinda like debt consolidation with additional benefits utilizing a HELOC. It's controversial because you're essentially using debt to pay off debt, and you're hoping for better interest rates while doing it. Example: Income: $10k Monthly bills: $8k Credit card debt: $6k HELOC: $25k 1. Draw $23k from your HELOC, and leave the remaining $2k for emergencies. 2.Put all your monthly bills on the credit card. 3. With the $23k you took from the HELOC, pay off the entire balance of the credit card. Your existing credit card debt is paid off as well as your expenses for the month. 4. With the remaining amount you have, pay extra toward your mortgage, or pay down the HELOC. 5. Use your monthly income to pay down the HELOC. 6. Draw from your HELOC again to pay your monthly expenses and mortgage as well as making any extra payment toward your mortgage. 7. Repeat 5 and 6 until the mortgage is paid. The issue I have is that you're building interest off of both the HELOC and your mortgage, but I personally think it's situational. If you have 30% interest credit cards with high balances, it may not be the worst idea to consolidate with a HELOC. But, I'd just use the extra money in my pocket to pay the HELOC and then close it. Then just throw everything I have at the mortgage. Finances can be complicated, but you just have to be level headed and come up with a plan that makes sense for you.
Right? People say to cut back expenses so you can pay more off but, how many of us already don't go get coffee? Don't buy name brand, don't order takeout, and don't spend extra money and STILL can't save??
@@samantharowell9733sell things. You probably have crap sitting in your apartment you can sell. Don’t need 4 chairs? Sell 3 of them. Don’t use your living room? Sell your couch. Go door dash. Pick up a 8 hour shift on Saturday or Sunday at a local place. $15 x 8=$120 extra per week. Or $480 per month. That’s more than enough to start killing your debt.
They WANT YOU to not pay off your debt. The funniest thing is when you file bankruptcy you get a million applications for loans and cards after you do. There’s balance to everything in life. Anything that was easy to get into will most likely be hard to get out of.

I’m looking forward to being able to upgrade things around my house, start saving for retirement, pay off my mortgage, and just feeling that FREEDOM!!!! I did pay off a whole lot of debt in 2008-10 and was able to buy my first home. That was so amazing! But then my immune system went south and I struggled with EBV for seven years. It was all I could do just to keep up with mortgage payments. I racked up several credit cards. Thankfully I have no student or car debt so I’m hoping to be able to be free from everything but mortgage in a few years. Then I want to be aggressive about setting myself up for later in life. I’ll have to watch this a few times, thanks. ❤

@GabrielleTalksMoney, given the economy would you advise taking out loan on 401k to priortize debt? I sorta don't see the point of using my employers 401k if i will need to pay the debt off either way.
Taking a loan out from your 401k is a great option. The interest is much lower that the cc companies and that interest goes right back to you. Instead of that interest going to a credit card company.
The things I’m thinking of are rental cars, hotels and online shopping? She suggested no vacations or buying clothes. Could you purchase what you need locally without using a card?

Love your channel and love your tutorials. No debt, but want to tighten my budget. How do I input amounts that I've spent, but that my company reimburses me for on my budget sheet? Trying to save up as much as I can now for investments and paying off the mortgage before retirement. I'm spending more than I realise because I'm not tracking as closely as I should. Love the Canadian content! I watch other financial channels as well, but I always come back to yours to find the Canadian way of executing their idea -- you never disappoint! Keep up the great work. You're a wonderful instructor and example.

40 now, and everything is paid for. Fortunately, I had a *pecuniary backdoors* teacher who taught me a lesson when I was 18 years old. That lesson was: you can't buy something else for every purchase you make. Having multiple sources of income is prudent, as is living within your means. I have a 13-year-old vehicle because it is all I need, I like it, and I can do whatever I want with it. My net worth is $4 million, and I can pay my bills without stress, but I don't live like I have that. I have no complaints.
Getting a credit card that offers Balance Transfer @ 0% (with 1-3% fee) seems like a great option to keep all debts in one basket. It also forces you to not to use the card so it slots you perfectly for aggressive debt payments.
This is what I did to buy some time paying off debt however I’m so bad at giving things a budget for random one off expenses such as our first baby shower 😅
thats what im doing with my capitalone, theres always a balance transfer promotion so I never pay a fee or interest
It does not exist where I live. Never found one. They’re only 0% if you pay in 30 days.
"High credit utilization (75%-90%) makes it tough to get approved for a balance transfer credit card."
Zero interest credit card??? What’s that
Bonus? What's that?
@@M_SC It's for people with good credit. They give a 12-18 month interest free period.
You have to pay those expenses off. when do you do that
@@CandyLynn64 That's why you get the gig or part-time job.

I am here watching the video for the excel spreadsheet to make my own
Cashflow, saving for first home, getting married in a year. That's my motivation

Incredibly helpful video, thank you! I’m $23K in debt and starting to film my journey to financial freedom. Balancing travel in Southeast Asia and budgeting isn’t easy, but I’m learning! 😅
Anyone else here battling debt and feeling isolated?
@deval3596 what's is the VB method?
@@amandabaker7735could be referring to Velocity Banking. Not a financial advisor, but this is my thought process about it.
Think of it kinda like debt consolidation with additional benefits utilizing a HELOC. It's controversial because you're essentially using debt to pay off debt, and you're hoping for better interest rates while doing it.
Example:
Income: $10k
Monthly bills: $8k
Credit card debt: $6k
HELOC: $25k
Your video is very practical. Not just talk. Well done.
Thanks Joyce!

What exactly do you (and others) mean when they say "throw everything you have at the smallest debt"? Should all my disposable income go to that lowest debt or should the amount paid on top of the smallest debt be budgeted for as well? Should I be left with 0$ at the end of the month?

My "Why" is to start a family. I want to have kids of my own but I refuse to bring a child into a financially chaotic situation. And debt is financial chaos.
My older brother became debt free this year and he was so overjoyed, but he was like, "Now what"? He basically lived like a hermit. He did the bare minimum of fun, but now he can do whatever he wants. I want to be debt free for the same reasons, for peace of mind.
I want to get my security clearance again.
Personally I want financial freedom, to be stress free. So I can save up for a house.

But can I do everything you traditionally need a credit score for without a credit card?
The things I’m thinking of are rental cars, hotels and online shopping? She suggested no vacations or buying clothes. Could you purchase what you need locally without using a card?
To buy a home cash
The main "Why" is because I want peace of mind and also want to be a homeowner.
I have both credit cards debt and student loans. I want to work on credit card debt first, but I want to pay off the card that will have the highest interest first.
