  • There's always that one episode that stands out from the others. It goes against the grain of something you already know to be top notch. Here we don't shun that black sheep. And we don't let it detract from the brilliance of the whole. We elevate it. Welcome to the fold, King of the Hill. We love you. You're in great company.

    Its been a long time since I've seen King of the Hill regularly, so I can't recall a "worst" episode, but I do recall the episode that got my attention and utmost respect for Hank forever after: Season 3, ep.9, Pretty Pretty Dresses.
    If you haven't seen it, you must! it's Hank's finest moment as he takes care of Bill as Bill has a complete emotional breakdown over his wife who left him 7 years ago, and whom Bill's been pining for ever since and believing she'll return. When Bill, depressed and out of his mind, shows up at the Hill's Christmas party dressed in his long-gone wife's dress, shoes, hat & handbag and talking in a woman's voice, the rest of the guests (incl.Peggy) ridicule him badly. Hank goes into his bedroom and emerges dressed as a woman himself, to help Bill "save face" and not be thought crazy. Bill and Hank leave the party in their dresses. Hank is able to help Bill understand and accept that his wife is gone forever and won't be coming back. They both take off their dresses and Bill is sad but now accepts his wife is gone for good.
    When I saw this show I was incredulous that Hank wisely didn't resort to "logic" to try and convince Bill to change his mind. Instead, Hank went along with Bill's feelings and "joined" him in dress, hat, heels, and handbag, to help Bill talk about his sadness and "let it go" for good. Aside from Hank loving Peggy & Bobby, i feel like this is just about Hank's finest moment as a great human being.

    Def hated that ep, but the one I hated the most was the rain shelter one because bill never got what he deserved for lying and hank never got redeemed for opening the flood gates, it just felt unjust, but alas everyone moved on like nothing happened, it just felt that the entire point of the flood gate was an excuse to put hank on jail which there could of been better ways to do it

      That episode along with the baseball episode from one of the later seasons really shows Bill’s true colors imo. He’d betray those who truly care about him the minute he gets any kind of attention or authority. He’s often shown not to be as good of a person as he seems.

    This vid helped me understand that the medium of cartoons can be employed to create a certain tone for shows which could otherwise have been made live-action, but wouldn't be the same in spirit. Thanks stun.

    Honesty, I don't have too much of a problem with this episode. I agree Caleb was annoying but he's pretty tame compared to some of the children I've seen in other shows and in real life, outside of the lawn and the hose, most of his stuff was too childish to be taken seriously (Calling the cops on Hank was bullshit but that was the parents not Caleb) Seeing Hank get bullied was frustrating but that just made it that just made more satisfying when he makes those parents experience first hand why they're such crappy parents..

    The hurricane episode was far worse. Bill faces no punishment for abusing his Army position and lying to the people he's supposed to protect. Also the piece of shit who abandoned his post should honestly be in jail. Hank get's screwed over for doing everything right, making sure his dog was safe, fulfilling his responsibly, and making the tough decisions require in an emergency. But in the end, everyone hates Hank for something that wasn't his fault, while very loves Bill because he handed out some desert (pretty ironic that the ONE episode Bill comes out on top is the one were he's such an irredeemable asshole). If I want to see hardworking people get screwed over I can look out a window.

    Yeah that was an annoying episode, but honestly the worst episode was the Bobby forces Hank to join that botanist protest club only to get arrested in the end or any of the "Bill gets depressed" episodes, especially that episode where Bill didn't appreciate Hank using all his vacation days for the entire year just to help him.

    • @sgtvirus6696
      @sgtvirus6696 3 роки тому +4

      Just my opinion, but I definitely wouldn't consider that a bad episode, I honestly thought Hank getting arrested was hilarious and unexpected.
      Also Bobby didn't force Hank, Hank only joined to try to cover up what happened to Boomhauer's old car.

      Bill was too distracted in his own emotions to notice. And hank was no saint either, often making a bad situation worse like destroying the presents and refusing to give him therapy. However The ending was amazing.

    • @coolman5242
      @coolman5242 6 місяців тому

      @@Park-jf1wc Yeah Bill obviously needed therapy ASAP and i'm surprised there was never an episode on that but that's just Hank being old-fashioned and not believing in therapy. Meanwhile everyone else in the neighborhood, including Bill's childhood friends, were fully prepared for Bill to kill himself so Hank not giving up on Bill at least counted for something.

    • @Park-jf1wc
      @Park-jf1wc 6 місяців тому

      @@coolman5242 Yes, but the sacrifice wouldn't have been needed to have been made if he had sent the bill to a mental hospital or at least a therapist's office. Hank might mean well but he knows nothing about psychology. In Season 8 Episode 22 - Talking Shop he thought tuning up bills escort helped Bill at all. In Season 7 Episode 13 - Queasy Rider he shames Dale for seeking couples therapy (Despite Nancy and him clearly needing it) And only goes because he thinks he'll tell Peggy she's wrong. Then he panics and tries to run away when he realizes the guy is an unbiased therapist. Then there's the episode where (ironically enough) he's at his best with parenting Bobby Season 4 Episode 15 - Naked Ambition. He tries to take Bill away from the mental hospital by asserting himself but to his surprise Bill revolts and presumably stays. And in my least favorite episode despite all the good advise it gives Season 10 Episode 8 - Business Is Picking Up. Hank thinks Bobby can't handle similar work that Peter Sterling has done because Bobby (the same kid who humiliated himself at the Valentine's party and still was able to get a girlfriend less than a week later as well as other love interests) doesn't have enough charisma to handle a job like that despite all the benefits, like the mansion the arcade and the hot wife.
      In other words, if Hank was any smart he would've gotten Bill to a therapist and skipped all the pain for himself, the neighborhood, and especially Bill. Sorry for the long comment, I remember a lot of king of the hill episodes.

    My answer would be curve stomp but anyone else has their own idea.

    This episode is the popular one to hate on, but I think See Bobby Run and the Flood episode are far, far worse. At least in Hank's Bully most of the cast are in still in character.

    I'm going to have to disagree about this being the worst episode, but that's only because Ms. Wakefield exists.

      At least that episode had a decent ending. Ms. Wakefield finally came to her senses and so did the neighborhood.

    In all honesty I loved the Jean's episode, it's cool to see Bobby and Hank on the same page and Peggy be the one that throws the balance off. Its overall very charming and funny and a unique thanksgiving special. The anger management one I enjoyed a lot too. Can't say about this episode though I haven't seen it yet.

    To me the worst episode is that old lady who wanted to die in Hank’s house like you got to be kidding me how the whole neighborhood turned against Hank for not letting her die in his house especially on Christmas Day it’s supposed to be cheerful not depressing.

    Your problem with this episode is just the problem with king of the hill in general. Most of the time, characters will do something awful and get either a slap on the wrist or nothing. Especially Peggy hill, that’s why my favorite Peggy episode is her birthday episode which just shows she has gotten karma from all the crap she’s done, and it was satisfying. Seriously, name 3 asses hank has actually kicked.
