Hank did nothing wrong
He's usually not far off.
There's really only a handful of episodes I can genuinely say that about.
Right and everyone say he did n he in the wrong like wtf I don't think this will never happen in real life ppl be like she a old carzy lady I would say that if I was their
Hank did nothing wrong
As usual but his asshole of a community is so quick to throw him under the bus despite knowing what kind of an upstanding guy he is
IKR
Only thing he did wrong was break and let her stay and then come back to visit after she decides not to.
@@casperreallyI couldn't agree more for one more that made me so mad about this episode is that every one of Hank's neighbor and Friends turn against because he does not want this old lady in his house for crying out loud even the cops were on the lady side
She was acting super creepy. Plus she was convinced she was going to die. Thats a symptom of mental illness.
dementia likely or the poor thing was abused in the past and she ended up like that.
How is it a mental ilness to believe that you are going to die? Especially when you're at the old age and it can be lights out any minute
Yet, in the end, Hank let Mrs Wakefield come and visit during the holidays
The main annoyance comes from Hank's friends, some of whom he's known for 30 years, turning on him for a completely normal response to an insane request. They don't offer any good reasons to be on her side either. The episode even acknowledges that when Bill has no retort to Hank. It's insane.
this!!!
I've noticed this is a recurring theme in KOTH. Hank constantly has to deal with idiots blaming him for things he's not responsible for. It's just like the man said himself, he doesn't have an anger problem, he has an idiot problem.
@@iwasinaboxNo the worst part is that everyone else is a worse person. John Redcorn is sleeping with Dale’s wife and he thinks he can judge???
Hank was 100% in his rights
Here's one way I think this could have worked. Have the beginning playout mostly the same with Ms Wakefield showing up and asking to look around. It's when we get to her request that everything changes. First off, she makes it abundantly clear that if the Hills say no, she will leave and never bother them again. Second, she doesn't just think that she's dying. She's been to the doctor and been told that she has a few months at most left. And it's after telling them this that she tells them that her last wish is to die in the house she grew up in. The rest of the episode would be the Hills talking amongst themselves and their neighbors over what their answer should be.
The would have been better then they can get to know each other m she can tell more stories and she could have got sicker by the days n they take care of her because they find out she has no one else and they can be like we because your 2st family or whatever n let her pass
@@peteryanes3413 could have actually functioned as a sort of commentary on the beauty of "adopted" families...
family is about love, biology isn't a requirement---
Hank lives in Texas.
in an alternate reality where cotton was proud of Hank; mrs wakefield got blown away for breaking in and got her wish.
My grandmother's childhood best friend came to live with us to die and our whole family was very involved with taking care of her until she passed.
It's not something you should force on somebody though, we were all given the choice to say no but we all knew and loved her so she stayed.
I think what's sad about it is that old people often want to die surrounded by familiar things and people that they love and instead they die in a strange place with no friendly face in sight to accompany them in their dissipation.
I feel like this episode would’ve been better if Ms. Wakefield was actually terminally ill and wanted to die in that place as a last request, and hank could feel conflicted. Or if Hank finds out she’s lonely.
Or heck, even have her die in act 1 when she’s in the chair and then go from there.
The biggest problem with the episode was they didn’t give her a reason to die besides “because I’m old and I said so!”
Hi kitty ✌
You make an excellent point there.
Ms. Wakefield is like a slasher villain trying to coax Bobby out so she enters the house
The fact that Bill thinks Hank is wrestling with Ms. Wakefields ghost is hilarious.
And people want to forget the old lady trespassed when Bobby was home alone.
That is dangerous.
What’s crazy is that this was the very first episode I had saw of King of the Hill and im so glad i didn’t judge the whole series based off this one episode and gave this show another chance 😂
I don't think anyone would blame you if this was legitimately your first exposure to KOTH.
The dip in quality the writing took from seasons 8 to 13 should be studied. When I marathon'd the show a few years back I stopped at Season 10 and didn't finish it.
@@saskuethedemon98it's a good thing the revivals not happening. It got bad enough in its later years imagine how much worse it would have gotten now and in flash animation
@@pheunithpsychic-watertype9881Did they cancel the reboot? I thought they'd started working on it awhile ago. :o
@@keylimeyogurt_ they did but johnny Hardwicks passing has been the final nail
@@pheunithpsychic-watertype9881 No it isn't.
There has been no announcement that the reboot was cancelled over this, simply that "Hardwick managed to record his lines for a few episodes". Currently, they are still going through with the reboot (and have contractual obligations with Hulu anyhow!) Where they go from there - editing him out of the next episodes or finding a sound-alike - is currently uncertain.
Please don't make stuff up. The web is full of bullshit as it is, it doesn't need more.
People enjoy bullying Hank too much. Why else are they always turning on him the first opportunity they get. It's like some kind of obsessive desire that overwrites all internal logic.
For a Dale episode, maybe the one where he thinks he's got rabies?
The most disturbing part about this episode is that people are literally enabling this woman to die despite her trespassing and borderline harassing the Hills. Episodes that try to make Hank be in the wrong are so much worse than episodes that try to force him to be right.
This woman should not be enabled for wanting to die; she should be given treatment because she’s clearly mentally ill. It’s not funny and she shouldn’t have people saying that her wishes should be granted. Ms. Wakefield is a sick, sick woman who needs help.
Trespassing and traumatizing their kid but sure Hanks the bad guy. This is a huge reason why the later seasons suck so much. Honestly it was a blessing that it got canceled when it did and that the reboot is null. Modern Hollywood writers are just like how the people in later seasons koth think but with a touch of nu lisa simpson
Everyone seems to hate this episode because of how the neighborhood treats Hank, but I’d argue that how they act is very realistic. People like to be “holier than thou” especially when they don’t have skin in the game and it doesn’t affect them.
I’ve seen so many examples of this in my life. Look at people who criticize residents of San Francisco who complain about the homeless crisis. They say they are “dehumanizing” but those people don’t live in San Francisco and walk over human feces and syringes on the sidewalks or see homeless people masturbating on public transportation
As someone who also lives in an area with a high homeless population and has seen my fair share of insane things, get over it. It's been found that a lot of homeless people have untreated mental illness, and this is in part due to deinstitutionalization without ever giving a backup solution leaving many with severe mental health conditions on the street. Another high portion are LGBT kids kicked out for being different, people with physical disabilities keeping them from easily finding work, and recently adult foster kids who are kicked out at 18 and all you can think about is how icky their existence is and how much it inconveniences you to have to visibly see them existing, yet can't imagine how awful and inconvenient and scary their lives are, and that we live in a society that just throws them under the bus, and blames them for how they are with glib lines like, "get a job." as though it's so easy when you visibly look homeless, have no address, computer or other resources, and could be dealing with untreated schizophrenia.
As someone who's mom went homeless when my deeply racist grandma kicked her out for dating a mexican when she was 15, which lead her to couch hopping and then eventually living on the streets, developing sever PTSD from all the danger she encountered, and then had her die in her late 20's do to how dangerous it is to be homeless. The few times I was allowed to talk to her she talked about how every night she worried about getting SA'd cause it already happened to her 3 times. I do look down on the people like you who treated my mother like a worthless bug worthy of death, and your lack of empathy.
If you hate homeless people so much why don't you vote on laws that give homeless people actual resources that make it easier to escape the cycle instead of throwing up another homeless shelter and pretending that enough? In places in Europe they found the homeless problem was super easy to take care of by simply giving them homes, and free mental health resources instead of getting angry at them for being born. But then Americans tend to hate helping people at the bottom, especially in rich places like San Francisco where they have so much money to make the rich richer, but none to give proper resources to the homeless.
@sardonicus1739 dude…I don’t have an opinion either way on the homeless crisis in SF, just presenting an example for my argument. People like to virtue signal and smugly take the moral high ground when a problem doesn’t affect them personally, but when it does, they change their tune
This is an example of story writing where all characters a d circumstances are built around the gimmick, to the point of making all characters stupid or out of character.
This kind of dynamic occurs when writers create the Mary Sue, the flawless self insert that everyone loves, and the whole world circles around them.
Wait... how did hank not tell that golf club shaped present was a gold club???
I just saw this episode and it disturbed me so badly, like I'm sorry I don't care how sweet of a person someone is, I'm not letting them die in my house.
This is one of the most infuriating episodes. The main reason is how his friends and neighbors, all of whom Hank and his family have known for years, act as if Hank is in the wrong, yet if anyone else was in the same situation as Hank, they’d all act the exact same way. Except for Dale. The idea of allowing someone to just wait around and die in his home is defiantly a Dale thing, though Nancy wouldn’t put up with something like that and so he likely would not have someone die in his home like he hoped in order to make Nancy happy.
I think I'm a fairly generous guy, but I'm not letting some weird old lady die in my house.
I don't remember this episode but damn am I avoiding it king of the hill was a great show but when they missed they seriously missed great video dude too 😊
The one thing that bothered me is how this 80 year old lady in the 1990’s grew up in a house that looks to be built in 1950.
Ah yes. Dying in someones home. The most normal and reasonable request. Can't believe Hank wouldn't be okay with it. I mean come on. Haven't we all let someone come in and die in our chair?
Hank is the homeowner it's his own choice. It's really silly the neighbors didn't get or want the context the Hill family and audience had. It feels like a very bad way to create drama that is irrational, but I can see that being how society is, without context there's not a lot people can say or do without immediately passing judgment.
This episode pissed me off too. I dont want some random lady dying in my house. You know how suspicious that looks?
I'm on Hank's side with this one
im with hank!
and after watching KOTH for years i've came to the conclusion
that arlen is a terrible town to live in..
shady people, corrupted cops, unprofessional doctors,
poor school system,
Why doesn't Nancy just divorce Dale? He's obviously full of problems and I don't think John would put her through the same shenanigans that Dale constantly gets into.
Honestly, I LOVED this episode. Typically, Hank deals with non-traditional people; hippies, wiccans, hipsters, teens, anyone that follows a drastically different lifestyle than his small town Southern one. And a lot of the times, they're the bad guys and he's the voice of reason. I enjoyed this episode because it isn't very often where you find a more traditional person play the villain. And who doesn't exemplify tradition than a sweet old elderly woman?
I'm of the perspective that the brighter the photograph, the darker the negative. If something appears too innocent, there's always a dark side to it. And I love episodes that use that formula. When stories just have more traditional villains (such as disrespectful punk children), I don't feel challenged. It really shows how shallow people are and how dependent on image to make moral judgments because we lack the ability to understand life's nuances and paradoxes.
This is how people get taken advantage of, and fooled into turning on someone else. Like what Ms. Wakefield did to Hank.
I had absolutely no memory of this episode until I saw this video, I forgot the episode's existence.
I have watched this show since i was a small child and everyone’s frustrations towards hank just became more realistic and uncalled for the older i got. However if someone wanted to die in my house it would go about like ‘You wanna die here…k pay me for the opportunity…’ people die in homes all the time whether it be natural causes or (UA-cam Nono word reasons) so be my guest at a price.
I think this episode would've worked if they had added 2 things.
1. Hank making a speech on entitlement towards Ms. Wakefield.
2. Everybody apologizes to Hank.
And for the record, the episode knows Hank is in the right because, at the end when Hank gives into Ms.Wakefield's demands, everybody looks surprised and then VERY uncomfortable. Which sadly is the closest they'll get to comeuppance.
Yeah this episode drives me mad. Hank was absolutely in the right for not wanting a stranger to die in his house, but everyone treated Hank like he was a criminal.
OK. I can't help loving dale's "what if I mail myself" and then all the logical questions behind it. Like as cute and sweet and hilarious the idea of making yourself the gift? We rarely ever consider the problems behind it.
The soldier of misfortune episode would be a nice Dale episode to be reviewed.
Hank had every right to have Ms. Wakefield arrested. Because old lady or not at this point in the episode she was guilty of trespassing, Stalking and attempted breaking and entering.
As for Hank's friends and neighbors giving him the stink eye, If it were me in this situation I would've been more aggressive to them by saying "Don't any of you look at me like that, If some old braud asked to die in your house you would've done the same thing, So don't any of you stand there and judge me." At least that's what I would've said.
Hell if an old person came and asked to die in my house, Not only would I have them arrested. I'd also file a restraining order against them.
Hell no, i don't care how old you are. No one is dying in my house.
If I let a random stranger die in my house, then I got to deal with the mess they make (dead body crapping and pissing on my furniture), then have to deal with the police (having them question why I let a random stranger die in my house and become a suspect for possible for fowl play), then deal with nosy neighbors wondering who died and if they were murdered, then deal with possible gossip of neighbors drama, possibly lose property value, deal with the deseased family members and having them blame me for the strangers death, possible lawsuit from said family members as they would try to find an excuse to blame me and make money off me, and lastly being bothered by the news media that want to know the story but also possibly twist it to make it sound worse than it already is.
I don't care what others think about my reason I just don't want to have to deal with someone crazy like that in my house and then deal with the crazy aftermath.
This should have been a Halloween episode.
completely agree!
for me personally, this is simply a Holidays episode
For a dale episode, you should do the one were the female exterminator tries to sleep with dale. It shows his character well
What did she do wrong? CRIMINAL TRESPASS! In Texas, entering private property without the owner's consent is up to a $2000 fine and half a year in jail!
And, the fact that this is the Christmas episode "Adult Swim" has aired the most.
I think this can be seen as an examination of the entitlement a lot of the elderly seem to have (at least in my experience) and a picking apart of what people think "respect your elders entails". Sometimes, the elderly will ask younger strangers to do something for them.If we can't or won't complete the tasks for them for whatever reason, they won't take no for an answer and if they can't do anything physical to retaliate, they appeal to the people around them that probably don't want to see the elderly in distress. I've seen old people make ridiculous demands or requests that wouldn't even be entertained if made by someone half their age, and people defend their behavior by implying that their age makes them entitled to our time, or help.
While the entire episode is just one of "those" episodes where you question whether the writers were sober or not, the part that annoyed me the most is the police response. They act like her being old gives her carte blanche to break as many laws as she wants and make it sound like Hank's some kind of Karen who's calling them because the kids next door are playing and "being loud" by giggling and talking. Despite her having tried to break into their home and harassing an underaged boy.
"What have I done wrong? :("
"Absolutely nothing."
True, everyone acts this way in this episode. But the cops don't even raise an eyebrow when Hank starts talking about her wanting to die. Which sounds like something serious and worth addressing if you're a cop. But naw, this is just Big Bad Hank chasing away a harmless old woman. Who trespassed on his property, tried to break into his house repeatedly, harassed his minor son, and *actively wants to die* despite being lively and seemingly completely healthy. I'm surprised Hank wasn't fined for calling 911 for nothing.
I would think that everyone would be on Hank's side. I don't think Nancy nor John Redcorn would like some random nobody dying in their place.
Thought it was very sweet.
The neighbors only saw Hank’s actions out of context.
My culture honors our elderly so I would allow an elderly woman’s last wish
you should review "pretty pretty dresses" next, that's my favorite king of the hill episode! very personal to me.
It doesn't matter if it's the holidays or if Ms. Wakefield begs on her knees, it's Hank's house!!!
And his friends and neighbors know he wouldn't kick a person out without reason!
All in all, Hank did nothing wrong ☝️
And it's an episode I'd skip
She just had too many years of the Fonz. Poor Mrs C
Also, episodes like this are one of the reasons you love KOTH. It makes you feel something for the characters, like they're real people. I hope Bill makes it to the revival series. RIP Johnny
POCKETSAND!!! SH-SHA
Rip Johnny hardwick ❤ I’d love to see a review on “dog dale afternoon”
RIP Johnny Hardwick, Dale’s secret identity will be safe for all eternity!
Don't worry man, i'm on your side with this one.
Mrs. Wakefield seems to know she is being entitled and disturbs their peace
I think the episode where Hank is being framed by Buck is far more frustrating. I remember watching it for the first time and almost dropping the show as a whole because of Hank.
Though this isn’t the worst Christmas episode. Livin on Reds, Vitamin C and Propane is the worst Christmas episode. It has the same non holiday celebrating as Pigmaleon.
I hate episodes where everybody acts like a bunch of idiots
Full metal dust jacket is my favourite Dale episode
Dale focus episode I'd to see is when he quit smoking and got a normal job
I have faint memories of this episode. But Hank did nothing wrong, annoying how those in the episode are treating him like the bad guy.
The stupid town made this episode so hard to watch
Coming from a twisted toxic family my two questions would be ok fine how do you wanna die and you going to do it by yourself. Since Texas has no assistance you will be charged as the killer then as a watcher. Hopefully that will get her scared to go though with it
I’m currently binging the series since I fell off it around season 8 when it was still on the air and I just watched this episode for the first time last week (as of writing this comment). This episode raised my blood pressure to the roof! I was clocking everything Ms. Wakefield was doing and it was grounds for pressing charges; this old lady broke into Hank’s house numerous times, talking about she wants to die in the house and “won’t be a nuisance.” Like, no bitch, your corpse in the house will absolutely be a problem for the Hills!
I wouldn’t want her to die in my house, least not without paying 20k usd. Then go ahead.
Otherwise no.
As for having one’s friends turn on them like in that episode? Not sure, I would probably resent them permanently. Or long game let her die in the house then covertly put the corpse in one of their houses, an out of the way place and let natural decay take its course.
I stand with Hank
Episode where Dale gets rabies would be a solid choice
Another episode of king of the hill I'd recommend is. Hank's Bully and new cowboy on the block
Aw, man. This episode is wiiiiiild. I love this show! 😂
Yeah I despise, and it seems nearly all fans, hate this episode along with "Hank's Bully" Hank was clearly in the right the whole time yet the neighbours turned on him for sheer plot convinience and nothing more. Also It is weird too invite soemone over when you just met him but I think Hank's pride in his house clouded his judgement
Honestly if some old person wanted to die im my home i would ask for 500$ cash and info of next of kin to take the body. Also a hand written note saying that their doing this of their own acord and are not being forced
The cat episode I felt was far more frustrating to watch.
The clarity ❤
This was like one of the few episodes I remember from when I was first watching it. Another one was the one where Dale was taking the Rusty Shackleford identity.
The episode where rusty shackleford returns
good video! as for dale episodes, Soldier of Misfortune is a fun one! i'd imagine it's prolly on your list already, but i'd still like to hear your thoughts on it
you definitely deserve more subs, keep posting.
thanks!! i really appreciate that :)
Please cover The Witches of East Arlen! It’s my favorite episode and almost every line in it is pure gold.
that’s such a good episode. i’ll definitely be covering it!
Very underrated episode
I honestly can't understand what Mike Judge and the other writers were thinking when they wrote this.
Why would they think a random woman wanting if herself was a good episode? Let alone a CHRISTMAS episode?
And why did they wrote Hank as the bad guy with everyone of his neighbors shaming him? Including his friends who have known him their entire lives?
This isn't funny, charming, nor doesnit have a good lesson to teach.
It's just a nasty episode that has nothing positive or enjoyable to it.
Pigmalion is a crazy episode, too, but at least it's bat shit insane, so you can kind of enjoy it for that.
Mrs Wakefield is just unpleasant.
Pocket sand best damn concealed weapon I care 😂 it’s not just regular sand it’s hourglass sand
Marion Ross did a good job of being creepy.
Bill:”Hank is wrestling with Mrs Wakefield’s ghost!”
the neghiborhod was the main reason why i hated this epsoide too
Honestly Mrs Wakefield is the best part of the episode imo. The way she's so persistent on dying in the house makes me laugh. Everything else is a crapshoot though
Don’t you hate episodes where the main character did something that was rather justified and everyone glares or gets mad at you for it?
I sympathize with the elderly, especially those who have physical and/or mental problems but if an elderly woman requested to stay in my house to die, I would’ve been uneasy about it too. Not to mention with how she was peeping in through windows and being stubborn but I guess that’s where the sympathy comes in that they’re suffering from some type of mental illness
Another banger
Isn’t it illegal to submit a fake obituary?
Yes it is but if I had to guess she paid the police and the journalists to write about her death
If I were to suggest a Dale episode, it would be 'To Kill a Ladybird.' I like the way it shows Dale at some of his craziest.
You should collaborate with the youtuber Shady Doo rags. I might have misspelled his UA-cam name, but he also covered this episode.
This episode pissed me off

Still small
@@robertbreschard3493 Not small anymore, pal. A little kid is 11 or below.
I'm on your side, I wouldnt have let her in. You know how many times people can get robbed or killed by false stories like that and we never know the truth of it. I dont like Peggy but I agree with her that letting a random person in your house is bad. You want a weird episode watch Hank's bad laundry and you see how much of a sheep Peggy is along with hank's 'friends' they trn on him EVEN THOUGH he doesnt watch that stuff!!! This is one of the episode I hate along with Hanks Bad Laundry and Texas Skillsaw Massacre. A Dale tribute video would be cool, I would recommend the episode where the guys take his lawnmower and make him think its being held for ransom, I swear his mindset of his missing mower being used for the one man escape of Fidel Castro XDDDD
I like this one a lot because it so fake &unrealistic n funny like in real live no one beike oh let her die in the house they all be like shit i fell bad for him she keep coming back n bug them
I call that terrible song in the middle of a great album the "Ringo song" of the album. Specially because of "Don't Pass Me By" 🤢 (sorry to any Ringo fans out there).
Jump scare Wakefield
This is a frustrating episode, but Bad News Bill is worse. BNB is unwatchable for me.
i just went back and rewatched it after reading this.. you’re right that episode is pretty rough haha also, thanks for checking out my video! i’m a big fan of your koth videos.
@@iwasinabox Well thank you, you do a darn good job yourself sir. Keep up the good work.
For me, the worst episode is any one that has Peggy in it... or Buck... or Dale... or Nancy & John Redcorn... or Hank... or Bill... Bobby... or Kahn & family... Boomhauer is ok.
I suggest the gay rodeo episode.
That can work
