      @@Samurai_Stoner Yep, Bowie and Prince hit me harder than Petty... still can't listen to Prince hardly at all, and hearing Bowie makes me appreciate him way more than I ever did before. When I was a kid his Iggy Stardust days weirded me out, I was too young to process it.

    Fun Tom Petty fact. Back in 1963 or 1962 Elvis Presley was filming a movie in Ocala Florida called Follow that dream. A 10 year old boy asked his parents to go to the movie set to see Elvis. They couldn't take him, so his uncle did. Among all the crowd he got close enough to actually meet his hero Elvis and even got his guitar signed. It was then he knew he wanted to become a musician when he grew up. That little boy was Tom Petty.

      Yeah, iirc, he wrote that song about his legal battle with the band’s record label. They’d signed the contract when they were young guys, thinking that “publishing rights” meant the label had the rights to any printed sheet music (which they didn’t care about), and not the total legal ownership of the songs and recordings that it meant.

    • @danielcody7568
      @danielcody7568 4 роки тому +2

      David Reynolds Don’t be sad that you only experienced it once. Be glad you actually got to see him. A lot of folks lament the fact they’ll never see TP&tH live. What other band can play a 3 hour set, with only 5 songs from the new album, the rest classic hits, and they still don’t have the time to play all their hits in those 3 hours? Think of yourself as lucky, you’re Irish, right?
      I myself had the luck to sit front row on the launch of their 2010 Mojo album tour at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado (the best outdoor concert venue in the world) with Joe Cocker as the opener. It was a magical night I’ll always treasure.

    • @Dreyno

      Daniel Cody Yeah. I was lucky to see him at all.
      The following year I got to see Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band. Probably the only other person who could do 3 hours and leave out loads of hits.
      Red Rocks. Now that does sound amazing.

    According to Tom Petty's book, Stewart & Petty wrote the song for Stevie Nicks. She and Stewart were in the middle of a marathon studio session when Tom Petty showed up for a visit in the middle of the night. Nicks left to get some sleep. When she returned in daylight, Petty, still there with Stewart, had laid down a vocal as a demo. When Nicks heard it, she loved it and told them "it's your song now."

    If you want the classic TP & Heart breakers try American Girl, The Waiting, Breakdown, Don't Do Me Like That , A Woman In Love, Refugee. If i were to point to the quintessential Heart breakers sound - try "The Waiting"

At the time my parents were doing their best to shelter us so unless it was music they liked everything was "devil music" 🤣 one day I called my mom out when she was listening to Mary Jane's Last Dance and said "mom, this is about marijuana" and the she lightened up on our music choices a bit.

    Like the whole interesting take on Alice in Wonderland, also this isn't from any movie.
    Tom plays as the Mad Hatter, which is why the main reason they're walking around the table since this is the Mad Tea Party.
    Edit: also the meaning might be inspired by a "romanic encounter" between David Steward of Eurythimics and Stevie Nick of Fleetwood Mac.

    Tom Petty fully embraced MTV and the music video format when it came out in the 80's. He was already an established rock star when at the time and spared no expense making some of the coolest videos of the day, with some of the biggest Hollywood stars of the day in them. The videos usually had a theme you could pick out right away (like Alice in Wonderland here). The first one I saw was the video for "You Got Lucky" and no mistaking it was modeled after the Mad Max movie that was still pretty new. Tom Petty was a truly a one of a kind artist and there'll never be another like him.
