Mrs Jenny: You are the sun in the sky of patchwork. I work in patchwork for 45 years and you teach me day by day new ways to go... You are the very best, the one and only. God bless you for that.

I use Elmer's washable glue stick to tack the points to the background fabric. Helps hold them in place until I stitch them down. Love your tutorials!

I've been wanting to make a man's tie quilt and this would adapt well to that. And then the border could use up the rest of the tie with smaller Dresden blades! I've been collecting ties from second hand stores, being very picky about colors and since most of mine are pretty dark, I'm thinking a black background with a bright purple or teal for the sunburst! Yay! So exciting!

That's a great idea to use Heat n Bond to hold the center circle. I had been throwing away my odd little bits of HnB but now I will have a use for them. Thank you, Jenny!

Jenny, you have added a new way to make lovely dresden plate blocks, even lovelier. Thanks. I am so glad that you are as nice in person, as you seem on your tutorials. You came to our Quilt Guild in SouthEast Missouri, a couple of years ago RiverHeritage Quilt Guild, in Cape Girardeau, on the Mississippi river. . Thanks for making difficult blocks seem so easy.

Jenny, I used to do auditions for commercials and shows in Hollywood. As one performer to another, you have become QUITE accomplished as an actor. LOVE to view your videos, which are full of lively humor, good pacing and enunciation. You ought to submit a few of these as a reel to Casting...I bet it could turn into some national commercials and "mother/grandmother" roles in films/television. :)

Jenny, I have looked at so many of your tutorials that I can not believe I have not seen this Sunburst Dresden before. It is absolutely beautiful. Earlier today I was looking at some of Hoffman's Batik Watercolor ... it had a gold blend and a yellow blend, I can imagine those two being used as the sunburst instead of the white will look like. The Dresden will need to be a celestial blend of colors and the background a navy blue or black with twinkling stars. Needless to say ... that'll be my next purchase for a new project of place mats and a center table topper. Shame on you ... you get my mind thinking outside the box and here comes a new set of material for my stash. ;)

    Hi Jenny,
Thank you so much for your tutorial!!! I avidly watch your tutorials every week. When I saw this, I absolutely loved it. Anyway, my sister lives in France and has huge Paella pans for which she needed covers. My 12 year old son, Louis and I (well, he did all of the piecing on your dresden block, I did the rest) made 2 of these blocks. It was so much fun!!! It was the second time he'd done any sewing, he was really chuffed with the result!

You make those gorgeous blocks look so easy to construct... I think I might add 2 more at the bottom for a nap quilt or maybe even 3 more down one side after the 2 at the bottom, for an actual bed topper quilt! I tend to always get carried away and make them bigger and, to me, more useful. Thanks for this tutorial, because I doubt I would ever try making that block otherwise... it looks quite difficult with all those points to the un-tutored eye. :)

When I first saw this quilt on the video with your grandson, I was thinking the starburst effect came from sewing a rectangle-ish piece on the end of the dresden blade like you would when snowballing a block, but I was way off! lol Not sure if I could handle all of those little "pockets" left behind, I'd have to sew them all down I think, but it is certainly adorable and is added to the endless list of techniques I must try!

You can also use fusible interfacing instead of the second fabric circle. Stitch, snip & turn as you demonstrated. I use a bodkin or blunt instrument to run along the inside of the seam. Then you can fuse the circle to the center and stitch around. Keeps it from moving.

I thought I had seen all of your tutorials, then I found this one ... don't know how is missed it. This one is one you did almost 5 years, 3 months ago. It is darling. I've never seen one like it before. Then I look over to the side column and see another one I have not seen ... the Dresden Flower Pot, you made it 6 years ago! Can't wait to watch it after I watch the Dresden Starburst that your son did. Yall have some very vivid imaginations and a nack for figuring out how to make it easier. Keep up the great work! (7/7/2020) Edit: Fooy, you removed the link to the one your son did.

I'm a symmetry-loving gal and I'm wondering what would happen if instead of ironing the sunburst triangle to the side, I ironed it "open" so that the original crease line was aligned on top of the seam between Dresden blades? Hmmm.. I'll have to experiment and see what it looks like. Well done, Jenny!
