Hey Bama, Great to see you letting the teenager bringing in fish. Anytime I go surf fishing, I always take some extra rods and reels so the youngsters that see me catching fish can fish. There are times that I am too busy baiting their hooks and taking off fish that I don’t even get to fish! Those are some of the best days I have ever had. I’ve been doing this a couple times a tear for the past 50 years! God bless you with great fishing for years to come
IMHO........Your best Video this year!!!!!!!! ........love how you talked about what you were doing and why you were doing it......Thanks and Keep em coming!!!!!!!
Bro honestly your the coolest guide! I would love to fish with you but I’m in Florida learned and still learning so much from You! Trying to get into surf fishing going out this Saturday hopefully to catch some fish off the beach. I learned how to tie pompano rigs from you and all thanks man! 🤙🏽
Bama Beach Bum, man you were right! Things started exploding and taking off! Check out Pompano Brownie on UA-cam it’s a sweet little channel of a guy who learned a lot about pompano fishing from his dad who’s gone to heaven! It softens my heart every time I hear him talk about his Dad. I really appreciate you helping me get my start with that bucket video and being one of my first subscribers! You’ve done the same for Phil!
I had an ocean kayak for a while and tried fishing the pacific coast outside the waves. I did well but caught different species out there, stuff like flat bottom fish and mackerel. Conditions need to be safe, and having a simple set up to take sand and salt water worked good. Your surf on the east coast looks milder most of the time. I made sure to have a wet suit and off, also made sure all times winds did not shift to off shore or surf did not get dangerous. We caught mostly bar surf perch, looking kind of like a small mouth bass in size and characteristics. Some times we would catch a flounder or other more rare types from surf fishing like you are. I kept on my farmer John wet suit to go out in the surf more. I could feel the bottom for structure but once in a while stepped into a hole.
Yesterday was rough for sure. Using the patented Bama Beach Bum fish finding set up and walking the beach I nabbed a 17.5in flounder though! More success from things learned from the pomp whisperer. Lol
I wish there was more information on the set up and time of year. I know nothing about salt water fishing. Whenever you fish for different specie you need to know how to set up and what kind of pole and reel.
Well, not a great haul, but, as always, an interesting and educational video. Thanks for all the beneficial info for finding fish around certain beach features. Always looking forward to your next video ... "Stay bummy!!"
I'm heading to a remote island in the Bahamas soon. Renting a house right on a secluded beach, and I'm planning on fishing everyday. Any ideas on what I should bring or fishing tips is welcome.
Small Cast net /bucket,terminal tackle & stuff to make any rig you might need (crimping pliers ,steal for teeth, mono is good for most..Dk Bahamas fish but when I stepped out on rocky part of Jamakas coast a few years back, I would have been happy with a decent 3-4 peice & smallish reel some sort of package of gulps or bites a cpl rigs some shinny spinner or spoon maybe some jugs. Catch something and get a belly strip & on to the next. Depends on how much you want to lug through airports and how many airports I suppose. You can go about anywhere on earth with a thin slightly tall back-sack around 15 lbs or a little more & have enough to catch every you get near. Keep it simple. I’ve always Done real good with a 8ish ft m-ml 1 piece & 2000 type reel & as little a weight as conditions will allow.on the move in board shorts with a cpl thick ziplock bags in the pocket. Stationary fisherman give you the stink eye once in a while . That’s fine they can get off their rear end anytime they want to .it’s a free beach .surf fishing is the best. inlets are terrific at times and the backside is good too. Peers and boats subtract from the phon in the field IMHO. Later
Your fishing a trough. Find a deeper channel that runs into a trough. Or near a sand point with a hole beside it. That comes into the trough on either side of the point. Personally I wouldn’t fish where you at. The waves show no water dept except the extra two foot of the trough, but no deep water leading to it for larger predator fish. Those fish are probably trapped in the trough until the tide gets higher.
@@BamaBeachBum Left about 100 yards or so after no name you can cast to it. I'm pretty sure it's a sunken boat. My buddy caught sheepshead out there on it from the shore.
That's fishing for ya, it's not always catching, sometimes you gotta put in the hard work for that one fish. Hey, I've been looking for a steelhead/salmon rod for a "light" surf rod for whiting and pompano but don't know exactly what specs to look for. I would greatly appreciate it if you would give your thoughts and opinions on what's a good steelhead rod, length, action, power, etc... Thanks ;)
Do you all look at (www.farmersalmanac.com/calendar/fishing/) fisherman calendar to determine the best time of day to fish or just go out and throw line and hope for luck.
You should have told the teen how to hold the rod properly. He had no leverage at all holding it too far down. Not downing the kid at all.. Just saying when my niece was firing my gun I tell her how to hold it. If I'm showing someone how to swing a bat, I show them how to hold it. I guess this will be my complaining post. I enjoy all your video's though. Even this one. complaint 2..lol. Not enough people who post these videos tell what size hooks they are using. I would guess its somewhere between a size 2 and a 2/0.
I studied alot of things from ur vlogs sir....from preparing stick to catching fish .......nice vlog brother ...loving u from kerala ..south india...ur watsapp number plsss sir ..to ckarify more doubts

Nice to see the little fish. Some get frustrated at catching small ones, but I like to see them. Great vids man.
The waves sound so nice 👍

Going out tonight for the TX gulf coast night bite catching the big uglies recently . looks like pretty easy going conditions

Nice rod rack…. perhaps a future store item?
Great video as always! Just subscribed! I fish Port St. Joe, Mexico Beach and Cape San Blas. Only 3 hours away in Albany, GA!
Thank you for showing us your rod rack. I can definitely make one of those now. Keep up the great vids.

Matt... Will any of those dinker Pomps be legal this spring or summer? How fast do they grow?
They do have a very fast growth rate. Not sure exactly, but some of them may be legal by fall

Go to the little lagoon pass and fish for flounder. I would love that.

How do your rods not get completely filthy from the truck in that rod rack?
Never saw you hook any surf perch. Aren't there any of them in your place? I really like your vids, Matt.
We don’t around here. They are present on the West coast of the United States.
@@BamaBeachBum Oh, I see. The fish you fish are similar to those we fish here in the surf: whiting and pomps. Keep uploading vids.
hello good fishing
Nice video 👌
How do u clean ur reels everytime u come home from fishing?
I'm in the marketr for a few rods. What is the best length for fishing with pomp rigs? I'm thinking 9ft.
Personally, I like a 8’ medium - medium/light action rod.
So many options. An all around versatile surf rod is something in the 9-10’ range. Medium action
Just wondering what action you prefer on your surf rods and what test you prefer in your braid?
Depends on style. But most are medium action. And I use 10lb braid on my steelhead setups and 20lb on my larger surf rods
thank you
How much do u charge for guid service on the beach
So, when you make your cast your not casting beyond the bar. Your trying to stay in the hole?
For this example, everything was beach side of the bar. 40 yards max

What should I be fishing for off the gulf in 1 week?
Whiting and pompano
Can you do a video from structure near no name road? It is apparently visible during a low tide.-
What structure?
@@BamaBeachBum Left about 100 yards or so after no name you can cast to it. I'm pretty sure it's a sunken boat. My buddy caught sheepshead out there on it from the shore.
When do the bigger fish start showing up?
We weren’t catching them consistently until mid April last year
