It’s criminal how underrated Mike Gordon is in the bass community, he is one of the greatest modern bass players around. He can play any style and his pocket is so deep...legend
He can slap like nobody’s business...he can finger funk with the best of them...he can walk like an upright player...his knowledge of scales and keys allows him the ability to play super melodic lines where he doesn’t stress the root. As someone who plays bass it’s amazing to watch and hear and he does it so effortlessly
I don't think anyone who knows bass and knows mike underrates him. I personally put him in the top 2 bassists alive rn. Maybe uneducated or unknowledgable people underrate him but most people I know think he either is the or is one of the best bassists playing right now.
mac stacks I just mean there are plenty of styles of music I dislike but I know amazing players when I hear them...the only people I meet who love Mike are Phish fans, it’s rare I talk to someone who dislikes Phishs music but goes on about Mike. And that is a foolish crime
I think it's because Mike's talent isn't too apparent on studio releases (this isn't a bad thing). So many of the songs where Mike is dropping bombs and laying into unbelievable grooves only happen on stage (and many of the great bass-driven Phish songs they play live don't even have a studio version...and so many others are live covers). I just don't think the everyday person who ranks bass players has any idea of how good he is because they're so album-minded.

Mick Wagner what a weird comment. And no they are no longer God’s chosen. You’ll probably the first to believe in the anti-Christ with that view of yours. The modern Jew, more specifically the Zionist leaders, are headed toward ruling the entire world which will set up the beast system. As the Apostle Paul wrote “not all of Israel is Israel” because they rejected the Son and killed him even. I unexpectedly was able to attend these 3 Alpine shows. I was in Chicago for work that week with the intent of flying back home to Lafayette, LA then fly out to Connecticut the following Monday. Well that weekend Tropical Storm Barry came thru and made air travel difficult in and out of that area. So I got the OK to stay in Chicago area for the weekend and fly out on Monday. And these shows were just insane, especially the Sunday show and especially this Ruby Waves. It just kept going and going. And after so many bust outs in that 1st set. Hands down the best Phish show I have ever experienced (Watching that evil jam glowstick war at 22:00 from the pit was one of the coolest things I've ever seen). Thank you for giving so many of us such a personal and touching show. And don't forget kids, read the damn book!
Dang, I should have looked back at 22:00 haha I was pit in front of Trey! The arm swings during Contact blew my mind though. I felt I was seeing the band at a private club until I looked back.
I'm lookin' at the clouds and thinkin' "I don't remember any fog machines when I saw these guys a few years back!" I love you all Can't wait to see you again Keep on! edit: My favorite part of seeing Phish live is it's the only place I've ever been where I can just start dancing and not feel weird or self-conscious. At all.
It's really awesome hearing this song weave its way into the main Phish fabric. My wife and I were lucky enough to get to GoTF and hear this whole catalog of Trey's personal narrative story come to life. I actually cried (nearly sobbed!) during "Friend"...lol. But to hear this song so naturally roll into 3.0's folio, is truly special....and just shows how cohesive and the band is. If a song's good. A song's good. Let it play.
Wow. Phish is on FIRE lately, like literally playing the best they have in years. This band never fails to give me literal chills. My hairs wont go down from the constant goosebumps. Love it love it love it
Only 11:50 in. This is too much for words. WOW! Haha! Completely amazing. Best band I've ever imagined hearing. Thank you and the amazing family. It's still going as I'm typing. Gotta go. This is getting crazy.
25:20 Page building up. The next couple minutes hearing Page match on through the rhythm into a singular own melodic tune was just a piece of the constructive masterpiece thatvl is being performed. So many incredible layers from each musician flowing into each other as a weave of harmonious notes. They're beasts.
thank you for sharing. Knew the potential Ruby Waves had when i first heard it. Hands down my favorite GOTF song. Blessed to have caught this. Insane night.
I'm so so glad that I was alive (am alive) the same time these 5 band members carved out magic for all of us to enjoy. Magic. Pure Blissfully, Magic! Major Fan from 1993 and had my first show just after I got my license at 17 at the GREAT WENT. 39 and still loving them! They just keep getting better with age. So incredibly lucky we are.
Grateful that these guys are still creating new music and having so much fun playing it for all of us. 36 years and going stronger than ever. Simply are the best to me.
Yeah, that was cool. I caught the soft part of the tour (second Bangor, both SPACs, and both Fenways) and I really wish I saw the Camden and Alpine shows instead. They were amazing at both Sunday night shows at those venues. However, I've been seeing Phish since 1994 and have seen around 150 shows (or many more), so I'm not complaining. :)
Don't even listen to or know phish much but I was so mesmerized and entertained with this performance I didn't even realize I was already 30 minutes into it by the time I checked.
Blue morning, walking down the street Hear the rhythm from the soles of my feet On the pavement, and I reach out my hands And touch the building that's beside me And I look into the air up above my head Thin layer of clouds and the open sky All the stars are handles on doors If I could touch 'em with my fingers they would open up And a sea of love, ruby waves would pour down on my head An ocean of love would carry me up from this prison of lies If I could touch the stars with my fingertips, the doors would open all around me Could escape from this prison of lies and swim in the ocean up above my head When I die I'll turn into a tiny ball of energy And I'll go flipping and floating up into the sky And bounce off the stars like a pinball machine, look around All the lights on the machine are flashing 'Til they explode and the particles join up with... A sea of love, ruby waves pourin' down on my head An ocean of love would carry me up from this prison of lies If I could touch the stars with my fingertips, the doors would open all around me Could escape from this prison of lies Could escape from this prison of lies
This was such a great and fun show! We took our 2 and 4 year old and had a blast in the back of the lawn! It was a different kind of phun watching them dance the whole time! I honestly didn't even realize I witnessed this jam until after listening back!
At 29:00 the jam had fizzled out but Trey starts strumming his guitar. Bold move to keep the improv going after what was already a long jam, but boy did it pay off because the final fifth of the jam might be the best part.
@@thomasjefferson5169 yeah cuz i like even softer more brain dead music than phish... I listen to 30 min noise jams. And gg allin played backwards against 90s hiphop beats.

It so pains me that for my entire adolescent and adult life I've lived less than 20 mins away from Alpine Valley and going all the way back to 2000 this tour ending Sunday show was (due to unexpected unfortunate circumstances out of my control) the first and only Phish Alpine show I've ever missed. And of course that out of the 20 or so shows that Phish has played here at Alpine Valley that this show, the one and only one I've ever missed just happens to wind up being arguably the best one they've ever played here. Its just another example proving the age old adage of "never miss a Sunday show" especially when its a Sunday show capping off a 3 night run, and absolutely positively 100 percent no matter what never never ever ever ever for any reason known to man and god miss a show, when its a Sunday show capping off a 3 night run that closes out a tour, EVER!!

I needed 3 nights at alpine so bad... thank you to the band, the crowd, and the staff for providing an over the moon experience.
Happy Alpine Ruby Day to all those who celebrate. 3 years old! ♦️🌊

Hands down the best Phish show I have ever experienced (Watching that evil jam glowstick war at 22:00 from the pit was one of the coolest things I've ever seen). Thank you for giving so many of us such a personal and touching show. And don't forget kids, read the damn book!
yes man, i was there, lost my shit
Dang, I should have looked back at 22:00 haha I was pit in front of Trey! The arm swings during Contact blew my mind though. I felt I was seeing the band at a private club until I looked back.
Looking up at the big yellow moon and the flicker of fireflies added to the magic..what a night to remember! Thank you Phish!!
Ch33f yeah, the moon was chilling watching the show. Soo amazing!
mike picking up instantly on the reggae i never get tired of listening too
I'm lookin' at the clouds and thinkin' "I don't remember any fog machines when I saw these guys a few years back!"
I love you all
Can't wait to see you again
Keep on!
edit: My favorite part of seeing Phish live is it's the only place I've ever been where I can just start dancing and not feel weird or self-conscious.
THANK YOU PHISH FOR THIS AMAZING LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Such a catchy, upbeat tune. And an evil, ominous jam. The dichotomy of Phish.
davey0110 evil phish is my favorite.
John Sullen Melloncollie is being super surly in this video
Thought the movie was great!
Brendan Livingston yes!!
Wow. Phish is on FIRE lately, like literally playing the best they have in years. This band never fails to give me literal chills. My hairs wont go down from the constant goosebumps. Love it love it love it
kyle ciarrocchi me too
woah funny seeing you here
Totally drooled. Thank you Phish!!
this is really as good as everyone says.. just amazing on so many levels. thanks phish.
So so loving the psychedelic spirituality in the lyrics of the newer material
Yeah boys! I knew you had it in you…
this is monumental, treys delay effect he uses around the 30 minute mark is insane
So sick!
So good..almost had a 'Run Like Hell' vibe to it
Does anyone know what delay pedal trey uses?
thank you for sharing. Knew the potential Ruby Waves had when i first heard it. Hands down my favorite GOTF song. Blessed to have caught this. Insane night.
Fantastic jam and song!
Phish is my favorite band in the world . They influence me so much as a musician and give me so much happiness as a person.

A Masterpiece.
Spectacular! This is as good as it gets right here. wow.
Grateful that these guys are still creating new music and having so much fun playing it for all of us. 36 years and going stronger than ever. Simply are the best to me.

One of the best jams ever on my birthday‼️ this will go down in history as peak 3.0‼️
Masterpiece
Summer tour 2019 was fantastic and the band should be proud. I saw 1 show, Toronto, and wish I saw many more.
Andre Bouchard Toronto was amazing “take the highway to the great divide!”
22:15 for stanky darkness and a glowstick explosion.
I was in the pit, being pelted by them.
@@noogie1 Even Page can't resist watching.
Basically a Domino Theory tease for about a minute there
Yeah, that was cool.
Still processing, what a night, love mikes drill outro
Still processing too
this is better than a majority of those 90s jams that everyone talks about. it feels so much more free and inspired. change my mind
8/13/93
Can you really compare 90's Phish to the current day? Its a different animal.
Love to hear Trey play in the "licksomidian" style.
Blue morning, walking down the street
Hear the rhythm from the soles of my feet
On the pavement, and I reach out my hands
And touch the building that's beside me
And I look into the air up above my head
Thin layer of clouds and the open sky
All the stars are handles on doors
If I could touch 'em with my fingers they would open up
And a sea of love, ruby waves would pour down on my head
An ocean of love would carry me up from this prison of lies
If I could touch the stars with my fingertips, the doors would open all around me
Could escape from this prison of lies and swim in the ocean up above my head
When I die I'll turn into a tiny ball of energy
And I'll go flipping and floating up into the sky
And bounce off the stars like a pinball machine, look around
All the lights on the machine are flashing
'Til they explode and the particles join up with...
A sea of love, ruby waves pourin' down on my head
An ocean of love would carry me up from this prison of lies
If I could touch the stars with my fingertips, the doors would open all around me
Could escape from this prison of lies
Could escape from this prison of lies
Yes!! Sends chills down my spine. Shockingly good.
Best jam of 2k19 easy
Best jam of the 2010s
saw them play this out in toronto. love this tune
I'm glad these guys crawled out of bed to play these tunes. They're not easy to look at, but the music is not bad.
This was the best day of my music life. I can't see how any concert will ever top it.
EPIC. Finally got a chance to give this my attention...unreal...
Absolutely incredible piece of improvisation... unreal.
It really is. So locked in. Effortless connection. Incredible
Yes amazing incredible Jah love Jah Jerry Jah rastafari praises blessings respectfully Tucson Arizona Sonoran desert 🏜️
Definitely feeling them ruby waves
Page's face at the very beginning (0:14) says it all. He knows what's about to happen
Whoever gave this a thumbs down needs to read the book!
Reading the book might be quicker than sitting thru this tinkering garbage.
@@lodoublet It's okay, the lower your IQ is, the less likely you are to like Phish. Have fun at your Miley Cyrus shows though, LOL
@@thomasjefferson5169 yeah cuz i like even softer more brain dead music than phish... I listen to 30 min noise jams. And gg allin played backwards against 90s hiphop beats.
@@thomasjefferson5169 jk i listen suzane ciani.
@@lodoublet Why are you in here then? I can't imagine clicking or watching something I don't like in the first place.
Incredibly beautiful.
30:50 no words can describe this jam
Me and my buddy were standing and watching at the front of the lawn Sunday night and he turns to me and says “This is the jam that never ends!”
Years ago I'd stick my surfboard in front of some speakers and play Voodoo Chile, Slight Return, so it could absorb the vibes
Now I stick my head in front of some speakers and absorb Ruby Waves

For those out there who are traveling with Phish and joining them to celebrate in that musical paradise - I celebrate your happiness!!! What an amazing band with amazing ENERGY :) Keep living the dream and make it a reality :-D
Took 3 friends to Apline Valley for 1st Phish show
Thank you Phish
And
Reno, Mike, Steve
for seeing what it about with me.
@@TheCannell86 - Awesome!!!! :)
Amazing time and show! All bout Ruby Waves, Wowzers!!!
Thanks for all the good memories and many more to come!
Just happy to be part of this night and video.
Still absolutely love the transition at the 20-minute mark!
This pro shot vid is really shivering my timbers. Didn't really hit me until watching this how incredible it must have been to be there to witness. Balls of energy floating in the sky!
What a show my bro and I are still drooling, Phish is on the top of thier game. I mean come on we had dancing, the fishman VAC, a meatstick, trampolines, mike plays the drill. Where else can you get all that entertainment in a live music event
As artists you figure playing the same old AC/DC bag or any of the 1.0 era songs may get old after a while
who needs coffee in the morning when there is this
I still need coffee...
I like my coffee with a little lysergic
I left my body during this song. Have not quite returned.
I was there and I was drooling! Amazing jam and show!
