- I get asked a lot on how to perform a software update step by step on humminbird units, so i figured i would make a short video on how to do it! Hope it helps!

I've been racking my brain trying to upgrade the software and now I know why it hasn't worked. I was using a 64 gb micro sd card and you stated at the beginning of this video that only a 32 gb card will work. Nowhere in any of the Humminbird directions, or their video, did it state that fact...NICE HUMMINBIRD!!! Thanks Josh for the proper info.

Thanks buddy that helped me out! I was clicking YES when the ABORT prompt came up, & was wondering why I couldn't go any further on my update process when I should have been selecting NO. I will try it and see what happens lol

Happy to say I just completed another update 2.930 on my helix 8 with you step by step vid...happy to report I finally pulled the trigger on a mega live purchased from your store..my question is to do tje mega live 1.3 version update do I need to have the ducer connected to head and powered up to complete this?

also: Where did you find the 12 to Humminbird power connector cord? does it have a name ? (the type power connector that is)

Yes! You don't need the transducer connected to perform the update or to use your gps features! Glad you found the video helpful!
Cool😊😊. I've got the GPS Helix 5 G2 and i transfert all my waypoints on a micro SD tanks to the software HUMMINBIRD PC on my computer. Do you think that is the same process to upload this file on the Helix?

Thanks for this video as I have a Helix 5 that needs to be updated but your video got me confused. You said not to get an sd card bigger than 32mb but both your upgrades are way bigger than this so how do you managed to fit these larger files?
Nothing bigger than 32 GIGABYTES hahaha not megabytes !
I see this video is a year old, but I just bought the helix 7 all season g4 and I know nothing about it. Do you have any videos or advice for my unit
You can check on hummingbirds website under “software updates” to see if there are any available for your unit !

Your vid was helpful, thanks for uploading. I am just about to install my unit on a boat rebuild for the first time. I updated my helix 7 msi chirp g3n to 2.440 succesfully. However it will still not allow me to connect my device to my phone via bluetooth? Any ideas?
I am looking to swap units with retailer or send in to Humminbird.

glad you found the video helpful ! i am not sure what would cause it to not connect to your phone. are you wanting to use it to text through the humminbird? or just to do updates through bluetooth/wifi?
@@macremington8255 I pilot has nothing to do with chips, downloads, or anything. I pilot simply gives you the ability to control your trolling motor through a remote and use spot lock.
What would recommend for a first helix ? 5 or 7 would like di as well new to boating
Save up and get the 7. The 2” difference in screen size makes a big difference when splitting your screen with gps & DI for example. Helix 7 is a great unit!
Ok I have a helix 9 gen3 bought a new 32gb high speed card formatted it.when I put it into the unit it doesn’t show the encrypt with the new card.I can put my vx card back in and it show encrypt any ideas?
If its not showing the encrypt option it sounds like a bad sd card. Should be able to go to the setting menu, scroll all the way down to encrypt it. If its not giving you that option, try another SD card
Hey when I put lake maps into helix is there any thing I have to change on my settings. I bought helix 7si gen3 new to hummingbird.
When you buy a lake master chip or a blank SD card and down load seperate lakes onto it, you have to plug it in and make sure “map source” is set to auto. Then it will automatically recognize the chip that is in the unit and will show u the maps.
When it re boots you say go to normal? Do you need to be on summer mode or winter?
yes, after it reboots go to normal, and it will say the update was completed!

@@Filling_tags when the unit reboots you have options of "Normal, Simulator, or Menue". Normal means it will run in real time and not be a "display/simulation". Simulator is pre recorded images that appear just to show you features. Normal mode actually reads the current depth, shows your actual gps location and shows what YOU are fishing

@@Filling_tags no .. the most recent software is 2.7... once they have a new update they don't offer previous updates for the same unit that now has a new update
why is my unit did not recognize the new software version? try to down the software to 2.28, but not different. any suggestion?
what sd card size are you using? and did you encrypt the sd card BEFORE downloading the new software onto the card?

I have a Helix 5 Chirp Gps G3 Ice bundle. I am trying to update the software but it doesn't work. I have done it exactly like the instructions. Restored the Defaults, formatted the card, encryted the card, loaded the update for a Heliz 5 chirp gps g3 on the card ( I don't see an ice bundle update so I assume I should be using the this one?) I insert it in the unit but no prompts come up. Any advice?
The helix 5 ice won’t be under “helix 5” units… it’s weird.. you have to go to “ice series” and you will find the download there.

yes, have to encrypt before you transfer upload to the card.
Hey, having issues with Helix 7 G2 shutting down suddenly every now and again. Ever encounter this? Heard or know of any solutions?

Only thing I could think of is a battery issue. Battery shorting out. Does it happen after like 5?10?20 minutes? Is there some consistency of when it’s shutting down ?
I try to update my Helix 5 CHIRP GPS G2 to 2.320 but after the Abort update prompt, I click left and the units shows brifly updating then just restarts. I use a FAT32 formatted 16GB Class10 SD. Any ideas? My current version is 2.110
your selecting the "do no abort" option correct? it should update and the auto restart, that is normal. Are you trying to do the base map update?
We are running into the same issue, it starts to update, reboots and then prompts to update again, hit yes, no to abort and it starts to update then reboots and prompts again... seems to be stuck in this update cycle where the software isn't updating. Did you find a solution by chance?
My Helix 5 chirp gps g2 has version 1540. Uploaded new version but unit still says 1540. ???
What version is the new one? 1540 may be the most recent for that specific unit
