Absolute fantastic, and utterly spell-binding. Your playing is spot-on, but it's the way you emote and blend your own energies with the instrument that is truly captivating. You are fully present and in the moment with the music, and that's rare, but so wonderful to see. Thanks for sharing, and for being you!
Wow, I'm blown away by how light your frailing sounds during parts of this. I still can't quite get that light sound. It's so beautiful in your version.
Yeah there's no set rules playing the banjo you just bang away on it you can hit one or two or all the strings it really don't matter anybody can they you know anybody can play a banjo nowadays there's no real discipline in how you're playing, some people play with real style some put some people really play with discipline other people just bang away on them and there are some that can't speak up and their volume isn't very good I don't know what that's all about anyway nice to see a young person out there learning how to play the banjo good deal
That's wonderful playing and singing young man. My dad would sing that to us when my sisters and I were very young. A very haunting tune. I loved your rendition. Thanks for posting it.
This is an awesome way to play this song. I cant quite remember whos version it reminds me of. Buell Kazee maybe? Either way, its great! I just worked up a way of playing this today myself.
I know that the question has been answered, but for someone who stumbles upon this video who has never heard of fBbFBbBb tuning, its gCGCC, tuned relatively

the trick is to get the rhythm rock solid and be able to play with power, then dial it back so its barely audible.
Heartening to see such a young guy doing such a great job with an
old folk classic like this one. Pere Seeger would be proud.
PLEASE post more banjo stuff, this is amazing!
It is a pleasure to hear REAL clawhammer down stroke with the grand brushes, It’s a powerful tradition, this fellow can carry the mail!
Feels like a cross between Nick Drake and Old Time. Beautiful and spirited.
This is absolutely wonderful Ben. Love the rhythmic foot-tapping percussive sound accompanying your fabulous playing.
Honestly maybe one of the best things on UA-cam

I always it interesting how different banjo players tweak the mode of the song. I like the use of dynamics!
